    I've been falling asleep to this video for weeks and only just a few days ago found your videos for the Ainulindalë and the Valaquenta and I'm just enamored. Will you be reading more Tolkien works? I saw you already have one up for the Hobbit and the Concerning Hobbits appendix. If you do read more, if I may make a suggestion, my favorite Tolkien story is called Roverandom, a story from the book Tales from the Perilous Realm. If I could fall asleep to that every night I'd be so very happy.
    Thank you so much for these wonderful stories and for sharing that lovely sonorous voice with us!

      Thank you! I can't quite remember the exact name of the piece but I believe it is all music from Hildegard of Bingen. I chose it because it was ethereal sounding and because it was royalty free so I wouldn't get flagged by youtube 🤐

    Tolkien was a scholar of early medieval linguistics. The name Arda may well be taken from Old Irish (the precursor of modern Irish and Scots Gaelic) 1 ard = I (b) (adj.) high above ground, elevated lofty, of a tall tree, (f) of rank superior. II substantive (a) high place, height (d) metrical term for a final rhyming or consenting syllable in the metre rinnard (internal assonance of an Irish poetic form). The combined meanings of this word appear appropriate to the creation of Arda as described by Tolkien. Note the insinuation of a lofty, noble, place, with tall trees. In particular Arda was made by Iluvatar "themes of music"... who, together with the Ainur, "make a great music." (The Silmarillion Prologue 1 - Ainulindalë). Thus, the word Arda combines meanings contained within the interpretation Old Irish 1 ard; of a lofty, noble, place; tall trees and music. See 1 ard in eDIL, the online dictionary of Old Irish. The Silmarillion is the most beautiful scholarship combined with wisdom and profound creativity, beautifully read by John to communicate the depths of its consciousness. Thank you, very much.

    • @johnssleepstories
      @johnssleepstories  Рік тому

      Your interpretation is more than likely correct. Tolkien was a linguist and a scholar first for sure.

    Is Arda a realm or a "continent of the middle earth?

    • @johnssleepstories

    How did the Valar not know that Melkor went to middle earth on like day 3? These are the worst omnipotent beings ive ever known.

      …hahaha…because they were partying and not paying attention? And Melkor is one of the Valar, Manwe’s twin brother I believe and he has power of darkness that they had never encountered before And the Valar are created beings not Lluvatar himself so they are not omniscient.

      If this is some neo nazi bs, you can show yourself out. We don't approve of that loser ideology here. Tolkien mocked and laughed at your predecessors who were too meth addled to even know what an Aryan actually is, and I mock and laugh at you for your backward, impotent, nonsensical hatred toward your fellow human beings.
      You will never find love nor happiness unless you abandon this hate filled garbage ideology. Everyone is welcome on this page. Regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation. The only thing not welcome here is intolerance and bigotry.
      You are not welcome here if you hold these beliefs. Take a hike back to 4chan.
      Good bye
