Yeah, it's like those rare lines the emperor gives before being assassinated if you aren't in combat. Never heard them for years until it just happened.
Is it even possible to have a low disposition without going out of your way to alter it? Having done the quests up until that point means you should have a good reputation with the faction pretty much no matter what.
I love how when you charge the guard at 10:10 you can hear a guard in the background saying "Just my eyes playing tricks on me." as you're attacking a guy screaming for backup.
The guard that talks to Dreth before you kill him probably did it. 1) He asks no guards be killed 2) Hes at the end of the tunnel he could easily escape if guards are being killed 3) He hates Dreth 4) He leaves the door to the prison unlocked after he leaves Dreth possibly for you 5) He knew Dreth was about to be released soon due to Dreth telling him 6) He beat prisoners late in the night. Dreth tells you everyone dies in there. The guard would have no problem doing the black sacrament and could do it with a prisoners body. He would also maybe hate that Dreth was the possible only survivor
We already see the likely body the black sacrament was performed on; the mythic dawn assassin. I believe it’s more likely to be Captain Monrose. He’s not going to be there,so no chance of him getting killed. But he would want want his guards to stay alive as they’re ‘his men’. But likely doesn’t care so much, that it isn’t strictly stated & only considered a bonus, as they’re just guards and not considered important by Empire standards. Why doesn’t he just get the guards to do it? Either, a) an oversight by the developers (unlikely as we’re not strictly told who has ordered the assassination anyway) Or, b) Because Monrose doesn’t even know that the guards beat the prisoners to death. So doesn’t think to use them. And/or c) to avoid protest and possibly lose his position and wind up in prison himself. He’s not very well liked by the men who have to follow his orders. So they might prefer to go over his head and rat him out than to fulfil the order themselves. As for the evidence of the black sacrament. The only evidence left is the nightshade on the altar. There’s no remaining evidence other than the body itself. So the guards are likely none-the-wiser a black sacrament had been conducted. And think nothing of the nightshade. Dead bodies in the oblivion game aren’t graphically displayed. So we don’t know what it actually looked like. But the guards could be left to just assume any deep lacerations, deep enough to, say, remove organs, were as a result of killing. Or, more plausibly, the organs (including the heart) were removed to preserve the body. Like we see with embalming techniques. With the Black Sacrament being conducted directly after the removal of the organs, and before any embalming. With the body and the nightshade being placed back there on the site of the incident. We know embalming techniques exist and are ubiquitous across Tamriel because of Skyrim with the mission in Windhelm. As well as all major cities having crypts which use such funeral practices by the priests.

@@GothamandGomorrah Here's what I don't figure, though; why does Dreth's death make things better for Montrose and his guards? Indeed, he's going to be gone soon anyway when he gets released. Surely letting an assassin in would make things worse down there, since it would prove that it's a weak spot that needs guarding. Sure, maybe Montrose and his men get reassigned for their failure, but this is Montrose's chance to impress his CO, and letting an assassin slip by is hardly impressive. love the line about meeting up at the Bloated Float. Adds realism to the game believing that the guards hang out together after work, and even better knowing that many of them actually do go to that bar by the water!
Another commenter beat me to it but yea, the guard talking to Dreth before you get to his cell. He hates Dreth due to his poor treatment of all the other guards there, which is why he asks for no guards to be killed. 1:06 Side note: VICENTE VALTEIRE KNOWS THAT YOU ARE THE ESCAPED PRISONER.
I couldn't bring myself to hate Dreth. It seemed obvious that he was heckling others as a coping mechanism. After suffering eleven years of torture in a foreign land, he was finally getting out. How would you feel in his situation?
it’s similar to the treatment Nazeem received from Skyrim players. for some reason a lot of TES players hate those npc’s who have just a rude or condescending attitude with a violent passion. being given rude dialogue is a death sentence for an npc in an Elder Scrolls game
I wouldn't call it a coping mechanism. He's in prison, in a place where information of what happens inside rarely makes it out to the public. He talks shit all the time, and if he talks shit to the guards, he gets beat. So he talks shit to the other prisoners, who can't reach him. To me, this is just a sign of not shutting up when you really ought to because "hur dur you can't get me". Dreth gets killed because someone somewhere thought the world would be better place if Dreth was silenced permanently. I think a *real* coping mechanism for imprisonment is the horse thief in Skyrim's intro. He's constantly trying to reason with himself that he's not a rebel and that he doesn't deserve execution, he desperately calls out to the Divines to save him, he almost downright begs for his life, and then books it when he has a chance. There's genuine fear of what's to come, and him speaking just pushes the fear a little longer until he's shot. And it's not like Dreth is safe anyway. The Black Sacrament is done, money is exchanged, a deal was made. Storytelling-wise, if the player doesn't kill Dreth, some other assassin would. Dreth is dead anyway, the killer may as well be the last prisoner he tried to insult.
Playing as a female Dunmer and having him coming onto you in a very sleazy way makes it easy to hate him. As a male Dunmer he talks about how he will hook up with your wife. I really prefer his regular insults.
@@MrEntaraywhat you're describing is literally his way of coping. He knows the guards will beat him if he talks back, so he takes it out on fellow prisoners, who, he knows, will not be able to do anything about it. He's no longer as afraid, having been stuck in his cell for eleven years, but he still doesn't actively antagonize the guards, even though he's well aware that they'll beat him anyway. The horse thief in Skyrim (Lokir, was it?) is not coping, he's in denial, he refuses to believe that he got into such a serious mess (he's being driven to be executed alongside the leader of a rebellion) just for stealing a horse.x
Have played this game since I was 6 or 7 and replayed this quest so many times but never realised the easter egg with the mythic dawn assassin. Fantastic video! Amazing the amount of visual storytelling in Bethesda games
I got a couple ideas for ya Can you use mehrunes razor from the dlc as the blood of the daedra artifact? And have you heard of the secret oblivion goblin wars mechanic? I saw another video covering it and it would be great to see on your channel
your Valen Dreth impression made my day. I wonder how come Vicente knows the player character was the one to escape the prison through that very route?
Agreed. Here's a kicker... if their disposition is under their aggression, they attack. Eg) Gogrons aggression is 40 & I had to use cheats to set it lower than 30 as he pulled the axe on me any time I pissed him off 🤣
It also explains why it's easy to sneak past the guards in the sewers and you can just walk through the door at the prison without the guards even noticing you. Like they were expecting someone to come.
The best way to get past the first two guards undetected, is to not wait for them to stop their conversation, but to slip past them while they are distracted with talking. Only then no one of them is standing in your path.
I always thought it was Lucien LeChance or the Nightmother who ordered the Murder of Dreth as an Treat/Thank you to the Player/newest Assassin because Dreth was mean to you.
Lucien Lechance and the Nightmother wouldn't care about sparing guards, it's either an inside job or a victim of Valen's crimes before he was put away. Most likely it's a guard.
Valen Dreth: "What, you going to 'magic' those bars away?" Me: *Opens console and disables the door* Dreth: "W-WAIT! HOW DID YOU DO THAT? That shouldn't b- NO NO NO!!"
On reflection, I can see why it would be the Imperial Guard. Killing Dreth like this will not only ensure he never gets out, but get their hands on the Dark Brotherhood.
dispite this guys short screen time he's a memorable braggart and smack talker. it's neat that you encounter two of his ancestors in Skyrim with one living in Riften selling cheap priced mead behind Maven's back which honestly doesn't seem so bad since no one likes the greedy and corrupt Maven anyways and another being a random encounter after the Atherium quest line is finished too bad he tries to kill you to cover his lies though not cool

This quest is the most satisfactory quest in whole Oblivion, or even entire Elder Scrolls series. That pathetic fetcher Dreth got what he's been asking for from the beggining of the game, and the Dread Father Sithis delivers!
I just played Oblivion for the first time ever. I played it on PC with the full suit of mods of course. My point in saying all that is man it's crazy what vanilla oblivion faces actually looked like lmao
I always figured it was the guard that stopped to talk to him as you enter the area. Didn't want him to make it out, wouldn't likely be spending 11 years in there for the murder of multiple guards, probably something much pettier. Drug charges maybe? Not skilled enough to have ever really accomplished much I bet. Maybe he would fight people drunk, dreaming of bigger, better things as he is locked away as he did before his imprisonment. Maybe a lousy thief, tried and failed to steal something from someone that could have had him put away for a while. Either way. The guards sick of his tongue, not wanting him to leave, rather see him die in there rather than finally earning his freedom.
Montrose seems the most likely suspect to me. His end goal would not have been Dreth's death; it would have been the Dark Brotherhood assassin. A main purpose of the guards being stationed in there was likely to preserve evidence. This "career move" the two guards spoke of wouldn't have been a show of dedication but one of investigation. Montrose was clearly investigating the assassination, since it seemed no one knew who or what was behind it. If he could figure it out on his own, or at least find a scapegoat (like the Brotherhood), he could rise up the ranks pretty quickly. There's no reason to have so many guards stationed down there otherwise, as it would actually end up making him look bad for wasting men and resources. After all, their one prisoner only needs a few guards close to his cell, not scattered about in the ruins below. Once Montrose hit a dead end in his investigation, the Brotherhood was his only lead. He suspected the Dark Brotherhood in the emperor's assassination at some point, even if he ruled it out. If he could capture a Dark Brother or Sister, he could question and/or torture them for information, whether it be proof they did it or evidence/leads pointing him in another direction. He wrote about similarities between the Brotherhood and these assassins, the ritualistic (dare I say *cult-like*) nature of the killing. It would be a reasonable assumption that a group of assassins with similar tendencies and features may know more than the average Joe. Perhaps it was a group of renegade Brothers and Sisters who created a new murder cult. Unfortunately, you can't just write to the Brotherhood and ask for their help. So what do you do? You set up a contract, with the hope that it will deliver one of the members to your doorstep. Montrose was set up in the perfect spot in that back room to wait for the coming assassin. Unlike the guard that can be seen arguing with Dreth, Montrose wouldn't be in immediate danger and would still be able to hear if any fighting broke out. He possibly would have expected that his many guards would catch the assassin before he/she got to Dreth, and even if not, surely the guards outside would get them. No matter how the assassin got caught, they'd end up back in his prison where he could question them whenever and however he pleased. As for Dreth, he was just a lowly prisoner. Collateral, in the grand scheme of things. Even if this plan didn't work out for Montrose, it likely would have been a last ditch effort seeing as, again, he had hit a brick wall. It was time to start throwing things at it until one stuck. Alternatively, it's possible that Montrose was being told by higher-ups to take his men out of there, and he intended to use this Dark Brotherhood break-in to justify their presence. This would give him more time for his investigation and further excuse to be down there all the time. All of that said, however, it's also very possible that whoever ordered Dreth's murder was simply someone he knew before he was thrown in prison, someone we'll never know. It's very common for criminals to have enemies on the outside, especially one as... strongly worded as Dreth.

I used to love getting arrested, going to jail, staging a prison break and then retrieving my gear from the jailer’s chest. All while being stealthy of course 😂
Your vids have reminded me how much I loved playing Oblivion. I had to start playing it again!
The conversation between the sewer guards is actually believable and well-acted
love the line about meeting up at the Bloated Float. Adds realism to the game believing that the guards hang out together after work, and even better knowing that many of them actually do go to that bar by the water!
Except for when the Imperial guard (that is, the guard who is an Imperial) said "I'm not afraid of anyone! Wait, never mind" that delivery was wrong.
I like how even the murderous orc tells you to run from the guards. Oblivion did a good job of making the guards as terrifying as possible.
Agreed. Wes Johnson really sells the menace
Always nice to see your videos, especially the oblivion and the kotor1/2 ones. Thank you for them, and have a good day.
Thanks Samus. Always great to see your comments 😍
It was fun sending that one screaming to the void. Hail Sithis!
Have played this game since I was 6 or 7 and replayed this quest so many times but never realised the easter egg with the mythic dawn assassin. Fantastic video! Amazing the amount of visual storytelling in Bethesda games
I got a couple ideas for ya
Can you use mehrunes razor from the dlc as the blood of the daedra artifact?
And have you heard of the secret oblivion goblin wars mechanic? I saw another video covering it and it would be great to see on your channel
Saw the same video. Doing the quest related to the goblin war would be awesome on this channel!
your Valen Dreth impression made my day.
I wonder how come Vicente knows the player character was the one to escape the prison through that very route?
Ok, I didn’t know u could have a negative disposition with any of them. Wow that’s wild & so awesome that they added that!
Agreed. Here's a kicker... if their disposition is under their aggression, they attack. Eg) Gogrons aggression is 40 & I had to use cheats to set it lower than 30 as he pulled the axe on me any time I pissed him off 🤣
Never have I tapped on a video so fast before. As soon as I'm off work too waiting for the bus.
My theory is the Jailor. I think he doesn't want Dreth to have the satisfaction of getting out of prison.
It also explains why it's easy to sneak past the guards in the sewers and you can just walk through the door at the prison without the guards even noticing you. Like they were expecting someone to come.
Man, I can't wait for Whodunnit, all the possibilities in that one is so much fun and so many ways to toy with the victims.
I have been researching cus there's sp much dialogue!
Do the thieves guild once you're done with the dark brotherhood! Love the channel and all the oblivion videos!
The best way to get past the first two guards undetected, is to not wait for them to stop their conversation, but to slip past them while they are distracted with talking. Only then no one of them is standing in your path.
i was so nice as to make a spell that calms and does fire damage over a loooong time that i called "Suffer In Silence" just for him~
I always thought it was Lucien LeChance or the Nightmother who ordered the Murder of Dreth as an Treat/Thank you to the Player/newest Assassin because Dreth was mean to you.
Lucien Lechance and the Nightmother wouldn't care about sparing guards, it's either an inside job or a victim of Valen's crimes before he was put away. Most likely it's a guard.
I never thought to go where the emperor was killed... damn
A new Dark Lore Dash video is like a present under the tree! 🎁 Dashing through the snow...
Watching this video feels like reading a really good spy genre book.
Please keep making these videos. They are so good.
the slaughterfish flopping around on the shoreline at 7:32
Valen Dreth: "What, you going to 'magic' those bars away?"
Me: *Opens console and disables the door*
Dreth: "W-WAIT! HOW DID YOU DO THAT? That shouldn't b- NO NO NO!!"
I like Dreth's line about him getting out but the guard still being there.
The perfect recreation of the dreth laugh is hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂
On reflection, I can see why it would be the Imperial Guard. Killing Dreth like this will not only ensure he never gets out, but get their hands on the Dark Brotherhood.
"Game mechanics come between us and our prey" Made me laugh out loud.
I absolutely love the scripts for these videos
Never fail to disappoint with these videos 👌🏻👌🏻
Can we talk about how ridiculously good of an imitation Dash did of Dreth's giggle at 18:02??
Hee hee ha-ha? 😆
That’s weird. When I played this game I always shot Dreth through the bars of the first cell and into his killing him unaware.
Are you saying... its me? 🤣
@@DarkLOREDash I'm also sure to remember that I killed him with arrows passing through the bars. It's strange..
@@DarkLOREDash hahaha dunno man perhaps the programming gods decided Dreth would not die that way this time
Vicente Valtieri is a Breton with an Imperial name and Lucien Lachance is an Imperial with a Breton name.
Dark brotherhood low disposition is unreal levels of hatred. Damn
The guard @12:45 *Must have been the wind* ... in a room, within in a dungeon. I love Oblivion
This was a really fun stealth quest.
Dinner party is my all time fave haha
glad you did some digging to figure out who ordered this guy's doom
This content is my ASMR
The question may be who exactly ordered his murder, but I think another question is; for those who knew him, who didn't want this guy dead?
I can't really bring myself to hate him tho. Everyone would go crazy afte 11 years of being imprisoned and tortured in a foreign land.
dispite this guys short screen time he's a memorable braggart and smack talker. it's neat that you encounter two of his ancestors in Skyrim with one living in Riften selling cheap priced mead behind Maven's back which honestly doesn't seem so bad since no one likes the greedy and corrupt Maven anyways and another being a random encounter after the Atherium quest line is finished too bad he tries to kill you to cover his lies though not cool
That laugh bro did 💀💀💀
17:25 - Funny how he calls you friend just like Butch from Fallout 3
That slaughter fish jumping...*sighs* ahhh good times
Am Borsigplatz geboren. XD that missspell nearly killed me. Borsigplatz is a location in Dortmund, Germany.
How bad did I butcher the name
@@DarkLOREDash very. but ist fine, nearly killed me for Real thou. I Was having soupe for lunch and almosed choked.
Love your videos, definitely makes me want to replay Oblivion. It’s been a year or two since I have so it’s about time. Thanks for fun content! These are my favorite Oblivion videos on UA-cam.
I'm not sure why nobody's mentioning it, but I find your voice so interesting, and it's really fitting your content. To be honest, I'd love to see you doing voice acting in some PC game one day.
I love late night uploads!! Seriously giddy.
Nah is 7:20 a.m. now in my country.
@@SonofSkyrim01 nice!
"Why the unsanctioned bloodshed?"
Doesn't the Dark Brotherhood recruit you after you kill *literally anyone?*
Because it went against contract stipulations.
This quest is the most satisfactory quest in whole Oblivion, or even entire Elder Scrolls series. That pathetic fetcher Dreth got what he's been asking for from the beggining of the game, and the Dread Father Sithis delivers!
The game telling you to shoot the arrow through the gate only for the gate to not allow you to shoot through it is such an Oblivion moment
13:00 I always take that silver shortsword because I think it was the Emperor's
6:42 Well you say that, but, hit detection can be kinda wonky
I just played Oblivion for the first time ever. I played it on PC with the full suit of mods of course. My point in saying all that is man it's crazy what vanilla oblivion faces actually looked like lmao
The guards are so ruthless that there idiocy counters my own
I love Oblivion finished my first play through recently in fact! My problem is that the game becomes a bit easy once you've got Daedric gear.
Play pure mage no armor without power leveling and you’ll suffer lol
"wake up kitty kitty, there's a rat in my cell" uh yeah, the foulest of barbs dash lol
Woooo yeah baby this is what I’ve been waiting for this is what it’s all about
One time I did this quest I got caught by a guard but instead of reloading I just ran while healing until I killed Valen then I got arrested.
17:58 the best part
Wow that vamp was actually scary looking.
If he was in prison for six counts of murder against imperial guards I don’t think that he would be set free after just 11 years.
When I first did the game I picked the “your going to die” option he then opened the cell door and spawned a ghost to attack us I found it strange
I believe that's a racial perk he has a small chance of taking advantage of
**ancestor guardian trait can be cast 1x times per day.
One of the best quests in the DB
Looks at thumbnail: can’t say I’m surprised. The little sh*t had it coming 😂
After video: See _look at Thumbnail_
dude it's been an hour since you commented, you ok?
@@arifhossain9751I’m fine! Got preoccupied with something
One quest I was happy to carry out
i was waiting for you to make this video 😭
Theses videos are great please keep uploading more
Montrose seems the most likely suspect to me.
