I absolutely love that you make these videos, I didn't know anyone was as obsessed with wondering what happened to singers as I am. Forever wondering what happened to Tyler James and Alex Parks 😂 oh, and the list of Channel U rappers from the 00s.
She was too urban for the UK’s 2001 pop industry. Yes we did have other artists like Samantha Mumba who hit. But Lisa’s sound and image was geared towards a certain culture. Whereas Sam’s it was, I wouldn’t say whitewashed, but her music and look was very commercial, ambiguous, meaning all young girls regardless of race could identify with either the sound or look. But if only a small percentage of people can relate to something, it’s not going to pop commercially. And I understand there’s always been a need for representation. But in 2001 it was still very bubblegum and poppy in the U.K. I want to say times have changed, but if you look at Little Mix’s Leigh who’s very talented but who’s music is more urban than pop, and it’s not hitting. It’s really a numbers game. And for females of colour, the reach is smaller because their appeal has to be personal. Men of colour hit because they have the men and women buying. But for girl/ women, it’s harder because of where they place themselves in that sound.
I remember her. She to just be there and then disappear (like many others). Her music wasn't my cup of tea tho. She seemed too generic/americansed (as with a lot of stars who were controlled by labels at the time).
never heard of her but always happy to hear about a new artist from the golden era
Love Story was so good
