Brings back memories of when I used to drive the SX set in Auckland with these girls, well one of them 1199! 1254 the other loco usually on the SX ended up with GVR!
Train looks ever so slightly over-powered! Good to have these locos working this line though, they probably worked it sometime in the past when they were DBs....
It's not connected to the mainline anymore. It used to be apart of the old ECMT till it got rerouted through the Kaimai tunnel and now doesn't run through Waihi.
Wow, Great to see DBR 1282 and 1199 operating!!! Looking at the state of them though, You wouldn't think they would be able to run, Looks are clearly deceiving. They just need a bit of TLC now. Great catch!!!
Cheers Jamie. Yes Dean is slowly but surely working on them. Although they aren't one of his priorty projects. He doesn't run them often on the railway. So it was a great catch while I was down that way!
I used to be a member of goldfields a very long time ago I have to say it’s a shame it never seems to progress on the right direction Why you would put two heavy expensive to run locos On this stretch of line is a mystery to be honest They will never be able to run main line excursions as there’s no main line near by Also I’m afraid the staff at goldfields wouldn’t be able to restore or over haul these giants Looking at their condition one would hope they are shipped to either mainline or gvr where these could be properly restored and maintained Hopefully they aren’t just run into the ground there The track looks like it should of had the funds put into it first I’m afraid
