Not gonna lie as someone who has only watched the OG dragon ball in dub reexperiencing it with you on sub is so much fun
We finally got to the most iconic anime technique, the Kamehameha. I can’t imagine how many people tried doing it at least once in their lifetime, hoping just maybe it’ll work just like it did for Goku. 😅

Finally we got to see the Kamehameha! For sure one of the most iconic anime techniques ever. So nostalgic too, in my school kids would shout it all out hundreds of times during recess
Funny thing about the Turtle Hermit/Muten-roshi is that the international versions made Roshi his actual name, so the Old Master of Martial Heavens (or Elder Guru of the Zenith of Martial Arts) is known to many of us as simply Master Roshi or Master Old-Master.
A curiosity: In Italian, he is called Genio delle Tartarughe in the anime adaptation, meaning something like "Turtle Genie". In the manga translation, he is called Maestro Muten.
Chichi's name is "milk", because her dad is the Ox King. It's just another silly food pun.

4:57 I'm Spanish and "chichi" is a "dirty" word (not a strong one, though), bu it doesn't mean "boobs" but "vagina", as you correctly implied. Another variation is "chocho", but that one is a stronger word. Funnily enough, in Spain they kept her name as Chichi with no issue about it at all haha Maybe it's because it's not actually that much of a bad word in Spanish, and more on the line of calling a "penis" a "peepee" in English (not as innocent, though).

Chi chi in Spanish is not a dirty word that means boobs I don't know who told you that, when I was a kid amongst all my cousins we used to say "Tengo que hacer Chi-Chi", which just means I have to take a pee, it's a word that a child would say when they describe taking a piss "chi chi" at least in Colombia, I don't know any other Spanish country that uses chi chi as a slang for tits
That's in your country, in Latin America. In Spain "chichi" is a funny word used for "vagina". The funny thing is that in Spain they didn't even bother changing her name since back then people didn't get offended that easily. I remember making the connection when I was a child but it was never an issue.

I will say, the comedy gets toned down towards the end of og db. It's beyond tolerant by the 22nd tenkaichi budokai arc and just mellows into an adult level serious show from there on into dbz.

First of all, I don't understand much English. So I couldn't understand what you were saying. I felt uncomfortable with the English subtitles for the part where you laughed, so I decided to explain it.
The subtitles said that "the world" has lost a great man. I don't know what this "world" means, but if it represents the entire world including all humankind, I have to say that the interpretation is different. When Japanese people say, "Oshii Otoko wo Nakushita おしいおとこをなくした", they mean that the two people who are currently talking, or those who knew the deceased man, have lost him. In other words, it means a loss for Japan. It is the scale of a cultural area. I don't think Ero-Sennin would talk to Goku about things on a national or cultural scale, so I think it's reasonable to understand that the people who knew Goku's grandfather lost him. I think "We" is a more appropriate English subtitle than "The world."

Please rewatch episode 8 (the full version, on Crunchyroll, or wherever it is available to watch in Japan). At 17 minutes and 19 seconds during the full episode - after Roshi said "the world has lost a great man" he is quiet for 2 seconds before he happily continues "well then, why don't you come train at my house?".
the delivery of this line is comedic in my opinion. A similar example of this is when Goku loses his tail. He is quiet for a few seconds before he says casually "oh well". He moves on so quickly and casually, as if nothing even happened, that Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong and Pu'ar fall back in shock. That "timing" is funny and the fact that it can switch so quickly from a serious moment to continuing with the story on another note is funny. And that's why I laughed.
The show is made for children so it doesn't dwell on sad things. Also, the characters like Roshi and Goku have the type of personality that doesn't dwell on things they can't change. That is positive and I like that.
But still, the quick switch from something serious to being casual is funny.
