Also Neil's clean n intelligent lyrics made Rush more appealing. RIP Neil...

    • @USAMehdi
      @USAMehdi 4 роки тому +2

I agree with you. I think Signals was experimental because in 80s the Synths were making it big so Geddy wanted to experiment with more keyboard which Alex hated coz as he said "it's not even an instrument and takes up the same freq. As guitar"...but still Signals songs were all good. Countdown analog kid weapon chemistry etc etc the 1 with violin. All of them...
Anyway as I said Rush made a Big mistake by dropping Terry Brown and bringing some British dude who had never heard of Rush and was producing some crap like boy George or some punk synth bands in UK ??
Terry was like the 4th member. He even sings along with Geddy a little in Limelight .
I recently realized that He was the best Rush producer. They should've brought him back after grace under pressure .... :-(

This was ok but as usual, beyond Moving Pictures very little mention if any...people talk about how great Rush is but never go beyond Moving Pictures...(ooo we love 2112 because its about rebellion and A Passage To Bangkok about dope!) There's so much more to this band, so much more to love. For the true fans, they can always rediscover something. You dont have to love it all, its not for everyone. But I always said that unless you're a musician or music aficionado, you really wont get Rush. @toddmorrissey8372 5 місяців тому

@@seandpizzle Well aren't you up on the current lingo! "Gatekeeping"? No, it's a measure of respect to pronounce someone's name correctly, especially when your creating an allegedly professional documentary based on the man's life's work. I'm far from some Rush super fan, but I am a drummer, and Neil went to great lengths in print and film interviews to inform folks how his surname is pronounced. How about for the rest of your life, everyone you know sends you a birthday card on a day that is nowhere near your actual birthday? Or, everytime you go into your favorite bar, the bartender always, and I mean without fail, calls you by some incorrect name that's not even close to your real name? Just by your comment alone, I can tell you are a person that doesn't take any pride in whatever your work is. You're content to cruise on through the day, doing the bare minimum and doing it as unremarkably as can be.

@@toddmorrissey8372 I absolutely agree about the respect thing. All I'm saying is that saying it incorrectly doesn't automatically make everything they say stupid or false. I'm afraid there's some incorrect information in this documentary:
1:17 Hemispheres is not a concept album. The first half has a long piece that tells a story, the second half has three shorter songs that are unrelated to the long piece. By definition it is not a concept album.
3:52 There are no "cowbell flurries" in La Villa Strangiato (at least not on the studio recording).
6:07 No, it's nothing like an opera or musical. With operas and musicals, the focus is specifically on telling the story through singing, therefore the singing and words are the centrepieces. La Villa Strangiato is telling a story without the use of singing and lyrics, therefore it is almost diametrically opposed to operas and musicals in its approach.
10:26 Neil Peart's surname is pronounced incorrectly.
13:07 It's "The Spirit of Radio" not "Spirit of the Radio", it's "Alex Lifeson" not "Alec Lifeson" and that guitar part is 16th notes, not triplets.
18:26 No, the lyrics in Freewill are not "their statement to corporations" on writing what they want to write. They are about general freedom of choice and believing what you want to believe in. The song is talking about big issues far beyond the band's past experiences with corporations.
19:34 There's no shuffle feel in Freewill. It goes into a rolling 6/8 feel right from the start of the instrumental section and remains that way right until the end of the guitar solo. No shuffle to be found there.
19:42 The chorus isn't just in 3/4. It's made up of a loop of 3 bars of 4/4 and a bar of 3/4.
19:44 Again, no shuffle in Freewill. And that 6/8 section isn't even a triplet feel, it's based on 8th notes in groups of 3s. It might sound like a triplet feel but there are no triplets involved.
27:29 Tom Sawyer does not have "a lot of drum solos". It has a lot of drum fills but only one drum solo which occurs just after the guitar solo. And there are no bass solos in Tom Sawyer, the closest thing to a bass solo is when the bass is playing the riff just before the guitar solo starts. That is not a bass solo though.
28:47 The guitar solo in Tom Sawyer is not in 7/4, it's in 7/8 with some bars of 13/16.
32:04 Again, it's "Alex Lifeson" not "Alec Lifeson".
35:25 Again, Neil Peart's surname is pronounced incorrectly and at the beginning of YYZ he is not playing a bell, he is playing a crotale.
35:32 The vast majority of YYZ is in 4/4. The intro and outro are the only sections of the track that are not in 4/4.
36:34 No the lyrics in Witch Hunt are not about censorship at all. They are about an angry vigilante mob gathering together.
36:47 Limelight is not the last song on the album, nor does it begin with a sequencer. Vital Signs is the last song on the album and that song does begin with a sequencer.
    38:13 2112 is not 19 minutes long, it's 20 1/2 minutes long.

I thought it was pretty clear what " The Trees" lyrics meant. It was the small ( poor) vs big ( rich). The big ones consumed everything and they did not understand why the poor complained, when they were given free shade. The poor revolted and demanded more.. and the consequence of this is that they were all brought down by ax, etc. It basically is saying that if the poor do revolt and try to take what they think is just as much theirs.... that everybody will suffer. Great lyrics.. reality discussed in fantasy

As a lifelong musician, guitarist, I can say that all the time spent analyzing Rush is nice, but none of the assumptions hit the mark...we enjoy playing music...there is a joy in it nobody who doesn't play or sing can ever truly experience until they do it. I am sure as with me, it is done to simply do your best to express your spirit and joy.

Hemispheres and 2112 had very little in common, neither conceptually nor musically. 2112 was a future shock dystopia ruled by a theocratic regime, musically driven by chunky power chords, furious shredding lead guitars and Geddy's shrieking banshee vocals. 9/10
Hemispheres is about the battle between emotion and intellect, expressed as two Gods in conflict over the human plight, leaving humanity in a constant tug-of-war between the two extremes, until a new, third being intervenes as a reconciling force to keep consciousness in balance. Musically, shifting from vast, ambient chordal arrangements to fast hard hitting orchestral power and hypnotic atmospheres. 8/10
These two things are NOT the same!!!
