It's great that there were no real time limits on the game. They just kept rolling into next episode after the break like an ongoing carnival atmosphere. Genius.

Oh cool! I haven't heard about the Stud Machine in decades. My big sister had one. She made one of her old blue jean jackets into this gorgeous thing by studding a huge multicolored butterfly on the back and then studding the front pockets with baby butterflies. It was sweet!
But it took so long to do that she only did one piece...lol. She was a teenager at the time, so yeah.

Gene and Brett may not have recognized "Sergeant Pepper," but Richard Dawson surely did, even though he didn't jump into the fray in this episode. His first wife, Diana Dors, to whom he was married from 1959-1967, appears on the cover. She is the lady in the shiny golden gown standing next to Shirley Temple, on the far right side of the cover. Diana was known as the British Marilyn Monroe, although Brits prefer to think of Marilyn as the American Diana Dors! Diana was the mother of RIchard's two sons, Mark and Gary, who were 7 and 5 when Sergeant Pepper came out in 1967, virtually ensuring that Richard would have been aware of his ex-wife's prominence on the album cover.

Great historical music trivia. And the cover depicts a funeral scene. This is the first time we are introduced to Paul McCartney's replacement who is several inches taller than the original Paul, has a longer face and a larger torso.

The last episodes of 1973 leading into the first of 1974, so while everyone sleeps off the hangover (and if you're still hungover from New Years Eve at *this* time of year then you really need to take a look at your life) here's the notes...
Recorded on 15th December 1973, these episodes were shown from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th December, and the following Monday and Tuesday, which were New Year's Eve and New Year's Day respectively.
Tech Notes: Despite the title of this video, this is not the first time Gene Rayburn uses the Sony ECM-51 wand (that honour goes to Episode 96), however it _is_ the first time that Gene uses it exclusively, finally eschewing the lapel microphone he'd worn for 115 episodes. He's no longer tethered - HE'S FREE! Sooner or later he's gonna be climbing over the audience to reach the camera at the back of the studio, he'll be attacking cameramen with the wand for showing him at a bad angle, attacking stagehands for holding up cue-cards a moment too late, and twatting Roger Dobkowitz just for being there. To start with, Gene would arrive on set holding the wand, but in later episodes he picks it up from the panelists' desk.
Now onto the guests: It's the only week of actress Gail Fisher, who at the time played Peggy Fair, the secretary in Mannix. Fisher was one of the few black actresses in America to have a major role in a television drama series in the 1960s. Her other credits include guest roles in My Three Sons, Fantasy Island, General Hospital and Knight Rider. Her career suffered after she was arrested for drug possession in 1978. Fisher died in December 2000 at the age of 65 of kidney failure.
The next newcomer is Lee Meriwether, actress and Miss America 1955. At the time of this episode she had started a long run in Barnaby Jones opposite her friend and mentor Buddy Ebsen; but had also appeared in the Batman film as Catwoman, in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Star Trek and The Time Tunnel. She would go on to play Lily Munster in the 1980s revival of The Munsters, and has appeared in Murder She Wrote, All My Children, Desperate Housewives and the reboot of Hawaii Five-0. As of February 2018, Meriwether is the only surviving panelist from this week.
Bert Convy is in his seventh week. I told you he'd be back!

Them dumping on Sergeant Pepper and Sergeant stripes like they were dumb answers was funny.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band released in 1967, and earlier in the season they had broken into a song about a "Yellow Kangaroo" when a contestant gave a bad answer about a yellow suit. How could Gene and the entire cast *blank* on The Beatles?
Sergeant stripes isn't a great answer, but the phrase does describe the rank insignia that military and police sergeants wear.
Clearly the panelists were thinking of TV and film characters only and had trouble processing other uses (like Sergeant Major).

Nipsey Russell was trying to explain to clueless Brett who Chuck Berry is and she acts as if it makes no difference -if she doesn't know em' they must be nobody - Gene and some other panelists did this several times in later episodes - you, Thomas Dye and I were not the only ones turned off by it - very annoying

Today Charles racked up win #5 in the head-to-head match, behind only Richard and Betty with 6 each.
But percentage-wise, CNR is *way* ahead of the pack with a 62.5% matching rate so far!
(Although his total number of times up to bat is still relatively low, perhaps skewing the stats.)
Here are all the celebs (only 5) to have scored 3 or more matches so far, with their % accuracy so far:
    Charles - 62.5% (5 wins in 8 attempts).
    Betty - 42.9% (6 wins in 14 attempts).
    Bert - 33.3% (4 wins in 12 attempts).
    Brett - 28.6% (4 wins in 14 attempts).
    Richard - 24% (6 wins in 25 attempts).
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 116, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.

Harry looks familiar like he was on a later episode. Don't see what all the fuss is about Judy. Convey also seems to be predating Robin Williams' early antics. Summers sure gets catty about Raymond paying attention to other female panellists.

Why did they keep Brett on the show? She is such a rude person! I do not like her attitude then or now. I still like this show. I wish a quality remake would be made. I do not know who I would want on the show though. If I thought long and hard I cold come up with people that would help make a quality remake of this show good. I would start with some of the cast from Fuller House to start with. I think I would choose Marie Osmond as the host. I think I would ask Vanna White and Pat Sajak to be on the panel.
