So many great videos, so many great sights and sounds. As member of the end of steam era, I find myself going back to the early 1950's and seeing all the big engines running by, near my home, in Cleveland, Ohio. I got to see a whole bunch of Northern class, "NYC Niagara's", sometimes triple heading trains. Even so, the rebirth of 4014 is superb. The folks at The union Pacific have shown just how much they love their steam engines. I look forward to the Challenger being back in service. I must say that I am a bit envious of Ed Dickens sitting at the throttle of 4014, and I'll just bet that everyone who have followed 4014 to Ogden are the same. I grew up dreaming of driving a steam locomotive but they were mostly long gone before I ever could have done so. Every time I hear 4014 and 844's whistle I get this strange sensation in my heart. How about you? God bless the folks at the UP steam program.

Loved the horses running along side at 9:15. At first I thought they were scared, but once I noticed that the scary train went past, I think they were actually racing the train. Nice catch.

I can not get to the Thumbs up button fast enough! Love the old steam trains. My dad was in WW2 and went across the U.S. when his ship (USS Louisville) was at Mare Island for repairs after kamikaze damage in Jan. 1945 and said it was a sight when the train approached a curve and you could see the steam engine driving wheels and piston rods working. Thanks for sharing.

Felt like I was riding along with you on this glorious ride, thank you so much for a fabulous video. Almost brings tears to my eyes watching the beauty of 4014 and 844 steaming down the rails. The views of the canyon were wonderful, and the horses running alongside definitely was epic as someone else said. Noticed at least several helicopters flying overhead also.

With so many vehicles (and pedestrians) stationary on the driving lanes, it is little short of miraculous that an accident didn't happen. The Gods of the High Iron must have been working overtime!

because if you make a noise in here it will be amplified 1,000 times almost as loud as a rocket launch. Snow crews and the railroad have to keep it clear each winter because the same amplified sound of the locomotives and vehicles going through it also cause avalanches. If there is one storied mountain pass where the Pioneers came through and Big Boy roamed this would be it Echo is as legendary as Big Boy this is his domain and is the reason why he was built. Echo is the steepest mountain pass in the world 2% railroad 10% vehicle helpers had to be used until Big Boy, #3985, and #844 came along because of the steep grades all trains run on the left hand track until they reach Curvo and return to their natural grade to cross the Wyoming border at Wasatch 6,000 feet at the top of the Wasatch Range. Evanston is at the top Ogden is at the bottom and while it goes through here the tracks raise 3,000 feet in elevation there are 8 tunnels here and it is home to sights such as Devils Slide, The Tree, and the Sandstone Cliffs.
