    I knew in my head we had all this technology, but seeing Burnie wake up his house and everything made me realize we literally live in the Jetson’s future. That’s so crazy how far we’ve come.

    • @burnie
      @burnie 6 років тому +72

      When I was a kid, I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey (featuring the Blue Danube song used here) and was amazed at how they showed all this incredible technology but people were just interacting with it, like normal modern conveniences. I always dreamed of being able to do stuff like that when I grew up.
      So, when I set out to make this video, I wanted to convey that feeling but with existing modern day technology. We really do live in an incredible time. You just have to stop and appreciate it.

      Which tech do you use in your house to automate it best? I personally have Google home & a few Hue bulbs set up and some wireless switches that are I/O so things that are not smart compatible can turn on and off as well. Reason I ask is because you only said "computer", really curious which AI has that prompt because it's way better than "Hey Google"

    • @burnie

      You can change settings on an Alexa to respond to "Computer". I do not like HUE bulbs. They cost $40-70 a pop. I can install one Lutron Caseta switch and automate an entire room for the same price. And they work way better IMO. They don't change the light's colors, but I never use that anyway.

    • @Komskorner
      @Komskorner 6 років тому

      Ah, I thought it might be Alexa. I picked up the Hue bulbs mainly for the color change feature in the Family room. It's a fun immersive feature for game nights or even movie watching to be honest if you can get the app to actually watch the screen and work lol. I'll take a look into the Lutron Caseta switch, I was thinking of doing smart switches for rooms like the kitchen or bathroom where I don't need to change colors but the Caseta has some nice features from a glance. Thanks :)

I no longer had this feeling towards the end of RT but like everything in life. We grow, mature and move on to the next chapter. Congrats on the 21 years Rooster Teeth. You were one in a million.

    Wow Burnie. This is incredibly motivating. As a 26 year old software developer in a very good position I can't but compare to what you've said before. You had a great career before RT, yet you moved on to something that lead to this. It shows me that I'm not too late to come up with something big. That I'm not necessarily going to be in the same industry forever. That I don't have to try and shine in one spot forever. Thanks.

      It's not real though, a good proportion of those shots are likely staged. Doesn't mean it wasn't creative or shot beautifully, just that it is not a 'good' representation of his average or even irregular day.

    Just remember everyone and this is not saying anything against Burnie as he is great and killing life but this is an edited version of his life where he can script everything to be perfect. If your life isn't perfect don't feel like you can never be Burnie. Burnie has bad days, unproductive work days, meetings that go nowhere, fights with Ashley, fights with his kids and other ordinary problems that everyone has. You won't find the perfect life that is depicted on social media no matter how far you look. Just keep working on your life and cherish the good days that don't get recorded where you love the people around you and you feel productive and happy, and remember on your sad days that if you stay positive and disciplined good days will find you soon.

      I think this video is very important because it does show how perfect burnies life can be.....on this one day. It shows that Burnie has been making these vlogs for a year but he chose this one day to show just some of the amazing things he's grateful to have.

    • @Holygiant
      @Holygiant 6 років тому +45

      Honestly I just love this video from a cinematography standpoint. There were some really cool unique shots and the whole idea of it being sort of a "detached" vlog with no narration was super interesting to me. I've never seen someone do a vlog like this really (although undoubtedly he has a lot more setup time and ability than most people). Really cool all around.
      Also it kinda made me realize that, at least for the rich, we are really living in the imaginary sci-fi future in some ways. Of course most people aren't Burnie and therefore most people don't have voice-activated homes and partially self-driving cars, but it's still an interesting showcase of the fact that these things exist. Had this been shown to someone 25, 30 years ago, they'd probably think it was some sort of realistic sci-fi movie.

    • @AugmentedSmurf

      It actually reminded me of the Paranormal Activity series, in the way that it's "detached" with no narration. But it was obviously on a much happier note than a series about demons and ghosts... I've seen other shows do this before as well. And it's always a refreshing break from the format that you've grown accustom to.

      Very nice words, considering we are in a time where edited exceptionalism is marketed as the new average which seemingly everyone needs to achieve to be considered a worthwhile human being. Being average or below, but trying to improve while also failing is just fine and okay :)

      I agree, this vlog had sadness to it, like a goodbye, whether that was to roosterteeth, or if burnie was dying. Obviously I dont think either of those are right, but there was a lot of "this is my life, I enjoyed it, but things are changing", tone to it, a lot more than just a vlog coming to an end.

    I've actually strayed away from watching newer Rooster Teeth content. The newer stuff has always felt inferior to their older work, lacking the passion and love that made most of their content stand out from everyone else. They enjoyed what they did, and you could clearly see it in every joke in the Let's Plays, every witicism in the Shorts, and every line and frame of Red vs Blue. The Burnie vlogs were also something I tuned in and out of. I didn't watch all of them, and sometimes I didn't even finish the one I was watching. But this one captivated me. It's probably the best video they've produced in five years, maybe longer. Burnie's vlogs were always better than most everyone's because they always had a story or rather, a goal he was pursuing, and it made them infinitely more interesting (yes, aside from the fact they always had higher production values than the other vlogers). He subverted what a tradition "vlog" is by making actual video logs of what he was doing, and even if I wasn't interested, I still recognised that they were good. I mean, you can even compare them to the RT Life's, which are basically vlogs, and you can see how superior his are. But this last one is different. Instead of it being a specific log or event in his day, it is his day. It's a chronicle of what it's like to be Burnie Burns, and not only is it done with a atypical style, but it has Burnie's deft hand. Burnie is a gifted filmmaker when he's trying. Red vs Blue is a clear monument to this, and here, that gift really shines. Every frame is immaculately shot; every image blocked or framed in a unique way by someone with a specific voice and vision. It's perfectly balanced in light, color, and sound, and with slip ups at the right moment (like the guys playing billards or the exposure readjusting) to remind us that it is a chronicle of life and not a movie. What Burnie has crafted here is the epitome of what a vlog should be. He pushes boundaries in a way only he could, and with an ambition and an attention to detail that only he seems to have. It's not just us following someone through their day, it's us experiencing it with them. It's an emotional experience that is both aware of its significance (being the last Burnie vlog) and understands how to communicate those emotions to us. It's a not just a vlog; it's a work of art.
    Thank you Burnie.
    You're one in a million.

    I wish this vlog existed when we had to make those "High School Rolemodel" essays. Not just Burnie, but so many others of that company poor in effort and hours and free time to create a company like this. Yes, they say a million times they exist because of us, but we would never have became a community with out an RT in the first place. Rooster Teeth is the dream job, not for the fun they have, but the passion for their work and their viewers. If I had to start from scratch, I think I would have worked harder to do something the way Burnie and co. did. Good show guys. Happy 2017, and to a better 2018.

    Burnie, this might have been one of my favorite pieces of content you guys have ever done. I honestly loved every second of it. I haven't watched any of other vlog entries, but I will definitely go back and watch the rest now.
    I own a deck building business in Pennsylvania, and believe it or not, you guys have always been an inspiration to me. It is amazing to have witnessed your rise from working out of your home to the success that the company is now. Any time that I am in a meeting, or casual conversation about business, I honestly bring up Rooster Teeth all the time.
    I'm not sure if you really ever get post where you're being thanked like this, but thank you Burnie. Listening to you, and other members of the Rooster Teeth family constantly make me rethink things; and experiment with new approaches in life and in business.

    2 things really stood out to me here- 1) this is a perfect example of making use of available tools/gadgets/space to maximize productivity and 2) the importance of dedicated time for family and bonding at various points of the day. I wouldn't say some kind of "grass is greener" version of "I want Burnie's life" but rather say that I'd like to find the specific things/ways that allow me to optimally integrate the 2 aforementioned items into my everyday life more. Thanks for sharing this Burnie and RT - truly inspiring.

The music from Ellie was inspired and the final line from Burnie really nailed how emotional the year of vlogs has been. It's not the destination but the journey. I just wish the road was longer.
