UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN!! - A tour of Cortona and a hike to the author's villa!

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- In our recent trip to Cortona, we spent a day exploring the city and one of its museums, but my favourite part was hiking to the original villa Bramasole about which author Frances Mayes wrote the classic "Under the Tuscan Sun"...

Stephanie, you are the original author of chateau vlogs. You are a legend! No need to envy an author of a book, my dear. You have created your own purpose. Your followers love it!
Well said Janet if I could click thumbs up 100 times I would
I feel I am seeing the world with you.
I talk to myself a lot and I said after Stephanie commented that she wished she could put it into words, BUT she does it on vlog and entertains us so wonderfully and we love it.
Totally agree.
“It’s always possible to change our lives if we feel the need” - Stephanie
I feel like that is something a lot of us need to hear! What a beautiful thing to say 💛💛💛
I loved that as well. we are trying that out at the moment. Hope it works!

As someone already said "do not underestimate yourself".
Personally I find your wordsmithing inspiring and your storytelling captivating.
🇨🇦
Thanks so much for this Sunday at the Chateau!! I have been watching a few different documentaries on the Etruscans lately!! So clever, before the Romans.
Quite so.
And the wonderful way she expresses her enthusiasm for everything! She makes her audience Feel (excited, happy, sad) All Her Feelings are relayed in such a manner that anyone listening feel as if they are there! This Is Talent!
oh stephanie, I could have watched 4 hours or more of this vlog! The museum, the antique shop, just wondering around the town...and THAT food....lol.....stuff of dreams.....btw, you are seriously pulling off gorgeous Audrey Hepburn/Roman Holiday vibes with that stunning hat!!!
I agree 😍
white dress so perfect with the hat
Stephanie - don't underestimate the power of your wordsmithing. Your descriptions of all things historic and beautiful reveal your talent. Rather than trying to "write" you should dictate your tales to have transcribed - what beautiful tales you have to tell!
Well said 🇨🇦
I thought that too when she said that. Stephanie’s wordsmithing keeps me glued to these vlogs ! She makes the mundane Magnifique
I agree!
Absolutely!!
My jaw dropped when she said that lol
Well, I didn’t buy a grand chateau or villa but I have purchased (100%remotely) a lovely and ancient townhouse in the historical center of a baroque Italian town. Friday I can finally travel across the Atlantic, collect the massive old key, and see what I’ve done! A new adventure, and not just for the wealthy. 😊🇮🇹💫
wishing you so much happiness in your new property.
Lucky you!!! Hoping you find it all you imagined. Daydreaming myself of buying a little cottage in France. Been perusing UA-cam for properties (would love to find something like the place Phillip took Stephanie to rest for a few days).
@@carolmorris5753 Thank you Carol! It was great. So much fun it was foraging through the place. Currently working on preliminary design and going to return in April. Yes, a cottage in rural France would suit me too!
@@mharrisona5526 Will you be showing your townhouse and renovations? Would love to see pictures!
Where did you find your historical home? (Website)
This is literally my cottagecore dream. I am working so hard waiting tables to one day be able to afford my own slice of heaven. I couldn't help but cry multiple times during the video due to the inspiration and reminder that one day I will be able to laugh and smile and look back at all my struggles with joy.
🥰The fact that you have this goal is awesome! I wish you many happy times when you have achieved your dream……which I know you will!!💕
Prayers and good vibes for you!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
That hat is 'perfect' for Stephanie and she looks radiant with her dress, that she bought in Italy before. So cute how she bought the wine and washed the very artistically decorated glasses, so along the way they could rest a minute and toast each other, and have some wine. The berries had to have been so refreshing. It truly seemed heavenly!
The book "Under The Tuscan Sun could have been written by Stephanie as she has certainly found the life she has always wanted since a small child! Not many can dream it and make it all happen. This takes talent, wisdom and the ability to get along with people, in order to come up with the way of making it all happen. She can be stubborn and very determined a d this helps in many ways to help her stay rooted in her goals and not give up. I say all of this in the most flattering way, and not meaning it as anything that would be against her as personality problem, here it is a great trait in order to get done all the things she needs to do in order to survive through all she has had to do. All she will do in the future. Then she will be ready to move forward and one day write her book, and will be more able to examine just how her life was opened up over the years. As long as she keeps a diary or some way to put it in writing for her future needs.
Stephanie could certainly write her book and one day will, once things calm down and she is older and her home is finally in the slower mode of being done over and built up.
I just re-re-re-rewatched Under the Tuscan Sun and am so glad this was in the link! You are creating your own paradise open to all and are “writing” your own poignant stories with your vlogs. The library you were dreaming about three years ago is becoming reality. You share your life so generously giving us so much joy and pleasure. Most important you and Philip found each other and we couldn’t be happier for you both. Thank you for taking us along on your excellent adventure ❤
I am watching this on the morning of Amaury & Natti's wedding day with bated breath and anticipation to see if it will be in the chapel, and I can't wait till Stephanie and Phillip are married in that gorgeous jewel-box chapel which I hope isn't to much longer!! I absolutely adore all the history, the museums, the famous literature and authors, painters, and artisans of every kind... and Phillip's passion Antique Shops ...that spill out of Stephanie's travel vlogs. I just adore her & them ...and you are right, Stephanie has created visual "short stories" almost every day now for us to delve into & enjoy through her vlogs. If she ever slows down, I'm sure she could easily pull out a Peacock plume (one discarded), and sharpen it into a quill as the gold-leaf artist did in the Chapel ...but dip hers into ink and conjure her own fabulous experiences, travels (and the many characters, friends & family she knows) and with imagination begin to write
...even as Shakespeare did...
“And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name”
Why do so many people love this vlog? Possibly for the same reason they enjoyed Under the Tuscan Sun. The romance of Italy and France and the joy of what can happen when you take the chance to travel and enjoy these countries.
I want to thank you for this video from the bottom of my heart. Before all of this Covid mess, we had a trip to Cortona planned for my 55th Birthday next year, 2022. I am an at risk patient, with my heart functioning at only 45% so now I can't take the chance of traveling so far on a plane cooped up with so many people. We found a little house in town to stay at that was really lovely and close to many shops etc. So, thank you for my trip to Cortona through your eyes. This is the closest I will ever get.
Once again, I am going to be watching this vlog many many times! This is OVER THE TOP WONDERFUL!
Blackberries, almonds, olives, grapevines, wine in beautiful crystal glasses, the haze in the sunset just stunning. You may not have her talent to put it into words but you do have the talent to put it into a video and sharing it with the world so no worries.🥰🙋🏼
Love your Hat! Too
You sell yourself short. You have the words and the talent in spades. La Lande is your triumph just as Bramasole was for Frances Mayes. Loved this!
Exactly. 🥰
I think all extremely talented people feel "less than" where as others think "WoW, What Talent!" & I don't think it's false modesty, I think they Really Feel their output isn't good enough... (It's the ones who listen to admirers & believe it that get the "better than thou" attitude) Won't happen to Stephanie!
Loved seeing Bramasole! Just beautiful. Thanks for taking us there.
Watching this after finding out you’re both dating hits different!! I’m swooning and so happy for you both.
Stephanie, your choice of headwear is absolutely perfect! You are so stylish and your new hat is perfect with the dress. Everyone can’t be a trendsetter like yourself.
Yes. And why not protect fair skin _and_ enjoy looking fashionable? That Mediterranean sun is no joke to Pope Gregory's Angelic Angels ( English people).
I enjoyed every moment of this video.... you managed to put it all in my most favorite dream. You... Stephanie in Italy ... under the tuscan sun... sun setting olive trees vines... climbing a hill ... drinking wine... a misty sunset.... wearing a summer dress... a beautiful hat... blackberries... ending a meal with friends. A beautiful dream realized. Thank you
I agree with Janet G. YOU are the original author of chateau vlogs and are a true legend! I could listen to you all day as you have just the right spirit and knowledge to make all your vlogs so interesting! I've had tendencies to wander off at times when listening to some others in the past, but not you and actually your La Lande family...you're all so very interesting and knowledgeable! Thank you for being you!
I live in Florida and wear hats all of the time. Many people comment on how people used to wear hats but now it’s all ball caps. I have many hats and that shop would have been better than chocolate! Ladies should go back to wearing hats not only for fashion but to protect their skin! You look lovely today! Cheers 🥰
I agree! I have several hats too, and my husband sees "no sense in it at all" lol But I cannot help it and always looking for "the very one," but see so many lovely ones along the way. Think they do make quite a difference in the look of how women can look. In Saratog N.Y. during the Summer they have horse races and women usually do dress up and wear matching hats with their fancy dresses which they can even buy in the stores in Saratoga! But I am not so much into horse racing and do not do this so much really as it does take the money and betting on horses etc. But it is nice to see how the hats look and the dressing up and just being part of it all even being in Satagoa during the Summer months and the lovely dining places! Great hotels etc It is very busy though. There is Art and Ballet and other musical performances at SPAC. So much to do and some people do dress down as most would do, but it is a place wearing dressing with hats and dresses fit right in and no one pays any attention at all. It is quite normal. If you ever get a chance you may love Saratoga NY during the Summer months?
@@carolweaver3269 Hello Carol! Good for you and you keep rocking the hats! Gloves are next, they will make a comeback soon!
I agree and I wish we used parasols to protect us from the sun, it takes far less time to burn in the sun now than it used to. Besides going for a walk in a lovely summer “ frock” as my mother called them, with a pretty parasol is very romantic and we’ve lost so much romanticism in this fast paced, media enhanced world. We spend more time staring at screens than into each other’s eyes. 🥰🙋🏼
@@jillipepper5353 Hello jillipepper, I agree with you about the loss of romance. The pastor of our neighborhood church brings me cardboard to use in my garden (keeps the weeds down) says I’m the only person she knows that wears dresses and hats to do gardening! It makes me feel happy to dress nice, even when playing in my flowers 🙂
I agree and that is why I started wearing hats since 2 years. I feel amazing when wearing them. ❤️
I can't wait... Loved the movie 'Under the Tuscan sun'...
You do YOU DO have the ability to put it into words. One of the great reasons that I personally watch you is for you ability to exsplan something so beautifully..
P.S. adore your new dress and hat!
Thank you once again for being so amazing 💞
Fashion is temporary, style is enduring.
Have always wanted to visit Cortona - thank you for bringing its spectacular beauty to life for us!
We spent two days here and it is so lovely! I fell in love with Italy, especially Cortona! Mt dream was to see Braumasoli so we walked the long hill in 100 degree heat to see it. When I got to the wall, about 200 butterflies flew up from the lavender! My husband smiled and sais( like the movie,) It's a sign!
We stayed in the small hotel about 100 yards from Bramasole. We were chatting with a lovely couple in the hotel dining room one evening. We didn’t know it was Francis Mayes and her husband until another guest told us the next morning at breakfast!
Wow that’s amazing! Under the Tuscan Sun is an absolute favourite of mine. I have to say I’m experiencing a bit of envy right now!☺️🇨🇦
@@peggy-ann1961 we did not want to leave Cortona. Tuscany is wonderful.
Your hat is rocking my world!!!! The whole outfit is a dream!
When I first started watching your Vlogs, I was hit by the similarities of your story to the movie inspired by the book. I find both so inspiring and in line with my belief that when the life we have is not meeting the needs of our soul, we hold the ability the create one that does. You may not write, as Francis did, but your vlogs are a regular dose of inspiration for many. 💕
Image how it feels at night walking around the old city... seeing the old walls.
Stephanie, you look like you've stepped right out of an Audrey Hepburn movie. So chic!
I kept on thinking that too! I started searching for a dress pattern to make that lovely white dress. So simple - but ever so elegant. The woman has style!
Frances Mayes is such a favorite of mine. Thanks for this Stephanie. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there myself and watching this I feel as if I’ve been walking along with you!
Stephanie - Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful and educational video of Cortona and Bramasole. It's hard to believe that Frances bought this villa so high up on the mountain. One would have never realized that from the movie because of the vineyard that was depicted in the movie; thought it would have been down lower where there was more land, but then again, I guess vineyards can grow anywhere. Your videos are wonderfully charming and I love being able to see Italy and France through your eyes. Much Love Charleen from Arizona.
Oh yes, you have the words. You do it every time you produce and put out a new video. You have a special gift and you are using it beautifully. Merci, Stephanie!
This is one of your top vlogs! Thank you.
Stephanie you are the perfect guide.
What an imagination you have.
You should write!
Your narration, vlogs are your version of a "book". I'm here for it, I loved everything about this. Your so generous to share your holiday with us. Thank you.
Beautiful Guys simply beautiful Thank You
The movie from this book, is one of my favorite movie of all time! This vlog was sooo good and amazing to watch! I wish I could taste that yummy food!
💥 yes! Me too! I watch the movie at least once a month!
Loving your white dress, Stephanie 🤍🤍🤍
that hat was sublime. You looked lovely in it.
Stephanie thank you for a beautiful tour of the museum, the town and the walk to Bramasole. I love it when you read aloud!!!
Dear Stephanie, I won't be the least bit surprised if someone decides to make a movie on your life and chateau de la lande..
I remember reading UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, so long ago. How wonderful to see the actual villa. Thank you! ❤️👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸
What a gorgeous hat Stephanie has such refined knowing of style and fashion. Truly iconic. and omg what a goregous shot of Stephanie running into the fields with that dress that hat and those slippers, That was a shot Fellini would be jealous of. so beautifull and all the rigth movements. another amazing production thanks
Absolutely enchanted by this vlog and Stephanie's vibrancy, joy, and enthusiasm.
Your trip me watch Under the Tuscan sun again, and what a joy 😍 I love that movie ❤️ Thank you for the inspiration and another push in the right direction towards the leap of faith I’m about to take myself 🙏
Oh you saw Bramasole!!! That made my morning so I had cake for breakfast 😊
Stephanie, you are channeling Katherine from the movie accidentally and I love it.
Thank you x
Wonderful! I have read under the Tuscan sun many times and to see the countryside through your vlog was lovely. 👏👏
Splendid, splendid. A blend of joy and humour, and those views. Stefanie seemed so happy running down the hill.
Stephanie your words are on film who needs a book I love how your narratives are so engaging. Thank you!
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again….
Thank you so much for sharing your life with us! The hard work you put into everything you do does not go unappreciated. Much love ❤️
Your travel blogs are my favorite! I love the joy and genuine interest you display as you discuss your surroundings. Thanks!
A perfect day. Under the Tuscan Sun and Francis May’s other books are amongst my favourite reads.
The Museum was fascinating..
I would so love to see Stephenie wearing a beautiful dress with a pair of white sneakers on a walk! It seems to be the style this year.
So much fun! Stephanie, how do you make everything so interesting and fun!!
Stephanie, that is a great idea! A book! You can write that book just have someone take your dictations and someone to it edit. You can proof read, write and rewrite. I think it would be a shame if you didn’t write a book about your life, with pictures of course. Thank you for taking us along on your journey to Cortona. I love that movie too😍 I think I watched it three times.🌈
Thank you for this sensory uplifting vlog with your historical perspective-enchanting.
Such wonderful layers of history! Its beautiful and fascinating. I love walking myself, or strolling really, I would love love love it!
The hat is beautiful on you and that refreshment spot along with the glasses and wine? Spectacular!
A very beautiful place….
Thanks for the tour. And I really like the hat. I can relate to the story because there’s somewhere I want to move to and can’t right now. But I know one day I will leave where I am currently living.
I love Frances Mayes . My favorite book of hers is Bella Tuscany. Thank you for sharing!
Stephanie, your vlogs are a breath of fresh air, history ,art ,beauty and love ❤. Enjoyed every bit of this piece of art mixed with history. Thanks from the core of my heart ❤
Thank you ever so much for taking us to Francis's Casa. 💛 I love that movie and watch it whenever I need a lift in spirits. If course that was years before I discovered The Chateau Diaries. 😉 Xo
Stephanie you are amazingly talented with your dialogue.
You've done it again you told the story so well felt like I was there ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Stephanie how on earth you know so…….much history and make it come alive. What a beautiful old city. But I have no desire to live back then. Thanks for the vlog 🇨🇦
What a real treat this vlog has been! I would love for you to make one on your early years with your grandmother. And please do consider writing a book on Lalonde !
The hat gives a Marie Antoinette, as well as, a Audrey Hepburn 1950's feel ❤
Thank you Stephanie, I enjoyed so much this blog. Saludos desde México.
You are absolutely delightful! Your joy in everything is contagious.
for someone who doesn't like to go on walks at home, you are so funny going for a walk around Italy in 40c!!
you DO have the same ability as Frances why do you think so many of us watch you? :-) you could write a book vs a vlog too
Thank you Janet G for expressing so succinctly my feelings about Stephanie’s clogs but ESPECIALLY her touring and history blogs-I ADORE them!!!

Looking Forward To This Video. Xx
Fell in love with the story of Under the Tuscan Sun many years ago. I was supposed to be in Italy when I turned 40 for vacation and I'm almost 50 and still don't own a passport. Thank you for your storytelling and tour.
That was such an interesting vlog, Stephanie - thank you so much for the tour of Cortona. The Etruscan lamp was amazing and I loved all the jewellery! Frances Mayes villa was so beautiful and I’ve just ordered the book! Lovely to see Vivienne and Ashleigh again too!
I can see the gold and engraved glass as a compliment to the Versace black and gold porcelain crockery and embossed gold cutlery on a pure whit we fortuny fabric as a tablecloth. Awesome. My heart bleeds. ❣️
Oh wow, I just loved this little video of Cortona, beautiful….. thank you Stephanie..
That hat and dress.... I'm just guessing, that you will be receiving alot of fan art, inspired by this vlog 😊

Love the books and the film
Very beautiful! Thank you
This was so beautiful and brought back all my wonderful memories of twenty years ago when I was in Cortona with my darling, fun husband Don. Stephanie, you have an unerring ability to touch all the right notes on a visit to a small hill town, shopping, history, nature and food. I was so happy to see that the Italians are still keeping up their reputations for beautiful food. I am addicted to your vlogs. I love them. Mary Ann Recht, Chicago.
