I totally agree with what you said about the possibilities of hurting them when throwing gifts but after replaying that part a few times, I realised the pink thing/gift that the 'fan' threw to Lay was soft therefore it bounces off his body. That 'fan' at least knew it wouldn't hurt Lay before throwing it and Lay picked it up and accepted graciously because it was probably the 'fan's' only way to reach it out to him. I hope other fans will think like that 'fan' too before throwing gifts.
