    Hello Jimmy! I have no idea how this showed up in my feed, but I'm glad it did. We also have the same viewer (Clueless Beekeeping). I'm a fan of Eco-Wood also. You have a lot of interesting gear there... the Hive Gate + , That Bee Buffet feeder ++ , and Hive Visors? I also like that swarm trap. I can tell that you are a thinking man, and I wish you all the best with your bees and beekeeping! wait.. AND you're using Lyson Stands? I'm giving you an A+++

      Hi Frederick, I'm glad it found you. I have been watching your videos for 2 years now and I went back to the beginning. I even had 2 of my questions answered, Thanks for all you do. Hope to meet you one day.

    Ive got one wax dipped hive, one painted hive and will be setting up two eco treated hives this coming week to compare the longevity of each in my area. Glad to see yours are looking so good, makes me feel much better about trusting expensive woodenware to something i have no experience with so far.

      Just remember, Eco-Wood will only prevent rot. The wood can/will still warp. Some people paint it after the Eco-Wood treatment. Thanks for watching and good luck with all of your hives.

      Thank you for your sentiment. Good luck with the Eco-Wood. Some warping still happens, but so far, no Wood Rot.

    I want to thank you for that awesome way you keep your hive from swarming; that so makes sense to me. Thanks and may God bless you my friend .

      Thanks for watching but remember. . .I'm new(ish) and I'm just trying to do what seems to work for me. Try it at your own risk.

      I forgot to add, the Queen never stops laying in the Nuc box, so I don't really lose any bees.

    Interesting idea on the swarm prevention.
    I'll have to give that ECO-Wood a try. Looks like it's doing good for you.
    Thanks for sharing.

    When I use EcoWood my boxes turn gray, but yours look much better. What type of wood are you using?

      Initially, I didn't know they made Eco-Wood in different finishes. I just ordered from Amazon and got what they sent. I imagine with time, they will turn darker. My Ramp outside the shed has been treated and it is sort of dark. Thank you for watching and the question.

    I have just built a Layens hive box and treated it with ECOWood. I decided that a medium and a deep wood be too heavy. Now I am waiting on my daughter’s bees to swarm.

      Good luck with your swarm catching. I may build myself a long hive if the one I'm building for my daughter works out.

    Thanks for the eco wood demo. I paint all my boxes but have one hive I did in eco and I just need to get a colony in it this year to see how it holds up.

      You are welcome and good luck with the eco-hive. My first year, I had most of my supers painted. I still have 2 painted supers held back just in case.

      Thank you Stephanie, it has worked for two years now. I have re-queened last year, so I shouldn't have to this year. Also, the queen never stops laying, so I don't really have a brood break.

    Nice job on the video, you come across pretty good. Very interesting idea on swarm control, I do walk away splits myself. Trying eco wood for the first time this year

    • @jimmysneighborhoodbees
      @jimmysneighborhoodbees  Рік тому

      Thank you so much. My swarm control method has worked for me so far, but proceed at your own swarm risk. Mine swarmed once while I was on Florida getaway, so it's not perfect. I've also Re-Queened both hives once. Eco Wood has been working well . . . so far.

    Good video! I've seen some people use boiled linseed oil on hives but it can be sticky, that may be what you used on the flow? I love the look of the ecowood boxes, smart idea using it on your floors and ramp as well. Thanks for sharing!

      I"m glad you liked the video. I looked back at my notes and I used "Raw Linseed" oil on my Flow boxes and both stands.

    I use Eco-wood on all my boxes. Do you brush it on or spray it on? I spray mine but have been wondering if dipping work be easier. I just know it works and the amount of work and price compared to paint is a lot less.

    • @jimmysneighborhoodbees
      @jimmysneighborhoodbees  Рік тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the question. I dip my boxes in a 27 gallon tote that I have. It is big enough for assembled boxes. I put my leftover Eco-Wood in a 5 gallon bucket for later.

    I like to leave my successful swarm traps in place for about two weeks to let them really get situated. With that one being in your yard, you'll need to move it gradually to its permanent spot to avoid having all the foragers flying back to the tree.

    • @jimmysneighborhoodbees
      @jimmysneighborhoodbees  Рік тому +3

      Thank you. If I catch a swarm, I will do that, move them slowly. Don't want them to end up in the boat either. I watched someone cut out a swarm that went in thru the drain plug of a boat.

    10 - 14 day for the swarm.. If you can move it 3 miles or more for 2 weeks, then back to home would be better, but you can always work it your way bud.
    I used Ecowood on plywood this year, hope it holds up.

    Yeah, I'm gonna say stuff! You may be better off with one of those new queens they make. If you keep putting that old queen back in there, she's gonna run out of eggs.

    • @jimmysneighborhoodbees
      @jimmysneighborhoodbees  Рік тому +1

      I will keep that in mind, although my queens are going on their second year. I damaged one, and the other swarmed while I was on a getaway to Florida road testing one of the MINI's.
