I really wish you guys would add dBm noise measurements on the microservers as its one of the big factors for the people who often pursue these small servers.
Great review. Got us buying the 10 plus. But need your help, ja question: Where do you find the default password for the iLO? We have the iLO enablement kit installed afterwards, but not have a clue where to find the password. It's mentioned it is not a standard password but somewhere on a sticker. At least it's nowhere in the enablement kit they send us.
Sure, if you want to be all fancy like that. HPE has a part for that, there's also a number of 3rd party options that probably fit just fine. We like Icy Dock, but there are others.
I use3d the HPE software to create a raid 10 with 4 drives, I installed the EXSi on the internal socket for a USB. ESXi is running but i am not able to see the raid with the 4 drives. I also did not see it during the ESXi install. when i tried to =look for the data store in EXSi it does not show. please help.
@@StorageReview I noticed in HP iquote that is doesn't show up...neither for the ML30 Gen10 models..only advanced appears. Do you have the product SKU for it? Thanks so much!
Here's the word from HPE, there is no extra fee for the iLO license. The answer is that we included the iLO Essential functionalities into the iLO Enablement Kit. Once the kit is installed, it not only activates iLO 5 Standard features but also iLO 5 Essential features. Those includes: 1. Email based alerting 2. Integrated Remote Console 3. Virtual Media via the Integrated Remote Console
Have you tried or could you try installed larger drives beyond 4tb? The spec sheet says 4x4tb but I am curious if it could support 8tb drives or larger.
We understand that prior MicroServers supported higher density RAM. For this one, we don't have any UDIMMs to test with other than the ones we have from HPE. We will happily try though if we. can secure a couple.
That one is pretty personal, but it's very quiet with the single fan. No louder than a small NAS. We're using flash though, if you were working 4x HDDs hard, there'd be drive noise and more fan most likely.
I’m looking for a small server to run QuickBooks Desktop for a handful of multi user access, They are all not going to be full-time users just need the access flexibility. And for cloud storage, would this be a good choice?
@@StorageReview we may use it for inventory as well.. there’s quite a few projects the server may come in handy for but good point. Thank you. I really like your channel.
I have the hpe proliant microserver gen10 plus v2 that has the Pentium G6405. Is there anyway of using the iGPU on that processor rather than the Matrox onboard graphics that comes with the microserver?
Don't know if anyone knows the answer to this or not, but can you install Windows Server or Windows 10 on the hpe 32GB USB Flash Media Kit that is sold for this unit? The datasheet for the kit shows it is compatible with Windows Server, but whether I try to install Server or 10, neither listed installed kit as install target - they only show the installed SATA drives. I realize that 32GB for a Windows OS is suicide, but at the moment I'd just like to know how to do it since HP sells this kit and shows it supported with Windows Server. Unfortunately they have 0 documentation on how to do it.
servethehome.com did a customization guide for gen10 plus and it can support 64gb. www.servethehome.com/hpe-proliant-microserver-gen10-plus-ultimate-customization-guide/
Is it powerful enough to run windows server 2019 and sql server 2019 I was going order from hp. It would be running two vms are the processer pre installed
The processor is preinstalled based on your configuration. The platform is powerful enough to run SQL Server, but it will depend on how much load you will be applying to it. RAID is an option, as well as Windows Storage Spaces.
@@dotnetdevni In VMware only hardware RAID would work, we didn't use RAID though for our testing. Getting the full storage size is subjective based on how you plan on using the hardware.
Can I use this 2TB SK hynix SE4011 SSD as a boot drive? I mean a drive with boot and system partitions. I am currently running 120Gb SSD with Centos 7 on it. I have recently tried 2TB Crucial BX500 but the server does not see it.

I really like the form factor of the new MicroServer. Also, iLO is back!
FlorianZ86 everyone is happy about iLo.
Great how to video. Video quality and lighting are top notch.
Jamie Egan Kevin is so happy right now.
Been a while since I messed with HP servers, ilo looks really nice now a days.
My thoughts exactly!
Ya ilo is very nice now a days.
I really wish you guys would add dBm noise measurements on the microservers as its one of the big factors for the people who often pursue these small servers.
David Flores will see what we can do.
if noise is an issue oyu can replace or remove the fans!
HPE really needs to add 10Gbit NICs native and an M.2 slot of OS install.
Please measure power draw at idle and full load . Thanks
We will see what we can do here.
Not a bad little system lol Looking forward to more on this
Performance testing soon, hopefully have the full review done in a week or so.
OH MAN! I'm obsessed with all things SFF - look at that little gatffer. 25GbE with all flash storage? Finally some right proper iLO too. *drools*
Just remember, we've strayed well off the supported parts list.
Just got me one of these. Trying to figure out a ssd to use for esxi. Going to use a nas drive for storage. I want to get mine to 64gb ram.
Until 1:37, I realized that the noise was not from the Gen10 Plus...

It's printed on the information card. Should be unique to each server. Might be a sticker on the bottom, ours isn't a retail version.
Why are you guys using the 176.16.x.x? That one is not private right?
InIMoeK Kevin made a mistake years ago that needs to one day be repaired.
Is there a drive caddy option for the SSDs? Leaving them dangling just hanging off the SATA/Power connections seems precarious.

ConnectX-4 LX dual port 25GbE.

I'd a bit surprised if a smallish business using one of these has any plans for a 25GbE LAN switch.... :)
Of course our point is to show you what can be, not necessarily what it is out of the box.
Hello, Can the server run 4 hard drives in it? without overduing the power supply?
That’s what it’s designed for.
@@StorageReview Thank you..!
Hello did you tried ESXi using the motherboard Raid adapter (software adapter) please. ESXi seems unable to view it.
No. Just addressed the drives directly.

No, just ESXi. As long as Windows supports the card, it should be fine. HPE doesn't support the 25GbE card we used, but ESXi does.
