- The debate is still raging about what will replace 250cc bikes on the GP circuit. We tested a 250GP bike against a 600cc fourstroke last week and this week we try the other option - a 450cc single cylinder prototype supermono machine.

It doesn't help that we are starved for choice when it comes to two-smokers. Off-road, we've got KTM, maybe a 85cc Suzuki, and... that's it. On-road, it's the occasional titled, older grey imports. Nothing new, due to emissions regulations, and nobody releasing a GDI engine.
That being said, I do also like the sound of four-strokes, and they do have some advantages over two-strokes (and vice versa) but then, YMMV.
Of course, I think everyone will agree a 2t single sounds better than a thumper.
good news! i've built one of those bikes! they handle really good! its a yzf-450f race bike.
love the torque of my szr660 single. all the power is right there. beats my mates zx9 up until about 140km/h. then he leaves me for dead, but the power is so accessible until about 180. perfect beast for corners.

yes the 3 cylinder 50cc things, 18 gears aswell and 200rpm wide powerbands!
they should just have an engine size stipulated then anything goes including blowers etc.

personally the smaller engines interest me so gp is shit.
Whats the difference between the 600s and the MotoGP class though? Id rather have the variety. And theres alot of difference between 125s and 250s.
Yes, its the development of tyres, 4-stroke knowledge and aerodynamics.
Imagine a 8cylinder 999cc 400hp 2-stroke :D
If they built all new 500cc 2-strokes it would be the end of the world with todays technology and knowledge :)
They also removed 4cylinders (v12 to v8)from F1 cars and got faster cornering speeds leading to faster crash and lap speeds.
I know about the mechanics and I still prefer a 4-stroke.. Sounds better, more reliable and uses less fuel..
I wish they would just keep the 250GPs. Even more so the 125s.
Why should the 250class even be replaced? Well then put the 500cc 2-strokes back into their place, problem solved. Up the cc's for 4-strokes to 1300cc to be competitive against 500cc 2-strokes and mix them all up. Ahh that would be interesting. btw, 1cylinder 4-stroke=FART FART FAAAAAAART, 2-stroke=Win Win Wiiiiiiiiin ;)
Bring back the 400cc class! IMHO... motoGP = 800, 250gp->400cc 4 cylinder (used to be a popular road bike class, eg FZR400, CBR400RR, GSX-R400, ZXR400, etc), and 125GP -> 250cc 4 cylinder (again, used to be a popular road bike class, eg: CBR250RR, ZX2-R, GSX-R250, etc).

it just takes the whole GP aspect out of racing. Anyone can build a fast 4 stroke single

a 450 with less power than some 125 bikes? no thanks, may as well go and watch the go karts people rent with lawnmower engines.

weight is high on those bikes but they may make dedicated race engines that r lighter and with decent power.
250 singles replace the 125 2t.
Bring back 500 2t's
no half measures 750's
I have a theory that will make motogp more exciting and much more attractive. A 4 class series, consisting of;
125cc (as they are)
These 250 singles.
The current 600 hondas.
And the 1000cc motogp bikes, without as many electronics.
Done.

its almost supermoto with fairing. looks like KTM SX-f / Honda CR-f engines
For that price it should come with an aluminium chassis.
the 250's gonna be replaced in 2010 by.. honda cbrr 600cc roadbikes with moded frame,suspension and brakes..
the bikes will all be the same and if one team wants the others team bike..
they can buy it after each race..

pritty soon the rules will get so dumb theyll be using supersport 600's for the 500 2stroke class or is it 999cc or is it 800cc ah hell whatever it is this year LOL
it sounds very bad.. 4 stroke is gay anyway.. every bike under 600 cc shoud have a 2t engiene, a 4 stroke hasn´t enough power

the 990cc 4 stroke moto gp bikes were alot quicker then the 500cc moto gp bikes they replaced
cheap and cheerfull 17k and buy you somat alot better
