Also, interesting fact, the word "palace" developed from "palatium", as Augustus and many emperors after him had their houses on the Palatine Hill in Rome. The term came to mean the emperors residence, household and even his government. Once the emperors had to move more throughout their empire, it became a term for where ever they had their court.

Drongo, here is the gist of "Byzantine" Empire, very much summarized:
Ancient Rome expands into Greece and Macedon circa 146 BCE. The Romans captured the ancient Greek city of Byzantium and over time Romanize it. Centuries later and the Roman Empire moves the capital city to Byzantium and Constantine renames it 'New Rome' and later Constantinople. The Roman Empire is separated into different administrative regions each with their own roman emperors and sometimes they even go to war or fight together in wars against other peoples, it's all messy and complicated. Eventually the Western Roman Empire collapses slowly with the barbarian migrations into the Western Roman Empire and they set up various kingdoms over time. All throughout late antiquity and into the late middle ages there is still the Roman Empire in the Eastern Mediterranean, ruled from Constantinople, with a Roman Emperor ruling regardless of holding the Italian city of Rome or not. Meanwhile in the West, Rome becomes a part of the Papal States and there is a "Holy Roman Empire" all over the place in Central/Western Europe. Eventually in the 15th Century the Ottoman Turks wipe out the Roman Empire and there are no more Roman Emperors. A century or so later still, somewhere in the German parts of the "Holy Roman Empire" a German historian called Hieronymus Wolf decides to "rename" the Roman Empire in the east the "Byzantine Empire" with "Byzantine Emperors" and that German propaganda designed to give the "Holy Roman Empire" more legitimacy since the real Roman Empire was gone, well that German propaganda survives to the 21st century with the renaming of the Roman Empire to the "Byzantine Empire". The Romans never called themselves "Byzantines" or anything similar. They spoke Greek, but many Romans have been speaking Greek in their multi-lingual empire since before Rome had even conquered the Greek speaking world. The Greek language was the language of philosophy, academia, science, art, administration and culture. I hope that helps.

The Byzantine empire was a sort of nickname for the eastern Roman empire that eventually stuck as a means to differentiate them from the western Roman empire that included Rome herself. The name comes from the city of Byzantium that was chosen as the capital of the empire and renamed to Constantinople. The people of the empire considered themselves Romans which, after a couple of centuries, became almost synonymous with Greek. One of the voice lines for the cataphracts in the game is Greek for "time to ride Romans"
I don't think the term "Byzantine" was ever really used by anyone in the medieval world until Hieronymus Wolf in the 16th century, after the empire had already fallen. The Eastern Romans themselves used "Rhomai" ofc, and their Muslim neighbours used "Rumi" - both meaning "Romans". Western Europe didn't use the term Byzantine, but rather terms like "Greek" or "Constantinople" - eg, they would refer to the Eastern Roman Emperor as the "Emperor of the Greeks" or "Emperor of Constantinople". That being said, Western Europeans still used "Roman" often enough to describe Eastern Rome - for example, when French and Italian crusaders sacked and took over Constantiople in 1204, they still called the state they now ruled the Imperium Romanorum (though we now refer to it as the Latin Empire).

I love the concept of the Byzantines. My Duo Mate and me are currently trying combos out and them combined with the English worked the best so far

4:04 you were thinking wheelbarrow is +7 because IT IS +7 I think that tooltip (+5) is wrong, the villagers do have 14 carry capacity for those berries and it improves to 21 after the upgrade
Hre and ootd villa has +40%, carry capacity, so 10 + 40% is 14, with wheelbarrow 15 + 40% is 21 so it works as intended.
Looks like more Apm for the Viper, not neglecting relics either and very good of him to starve the byzantynes out of gold
