It seems like she has some foreign education and knows a bit more about the world. I don't know how to say that I prefer that, without sounding like a jerk.
love when the women discover "new" gadgets that would make their lives easier. Please tell me they all got one of these? They cook so much they deserve all the assistance they can get!
I was thinking the same as I started reading your comment. Had to mention it. Ladies are quick to grasp what the item is used for and immediately start theorizing over what they could do with it and in which situations it would be most useful. I do hope they could at least bring the items back with them, but the lady on the right is so clever that she might even be able to build one by herself. The way she examines any object is like she's downloading it right into her brain. No doubt she could end up designing tools of her own for her community.
If they got one, they probably shared with the whole community... everyone in the village would end up chopping their vegetables with it, then go back home with the final product. Such an item would make cooking easier for several families.
There should be more of these mixed female and male videos. I know culture plays a part as well and that should be respected but it's fun to watch and just have a listen to the ladies laughing and teasing Babu. 😆👍
The egg steamer is a great idea, as steam is hotter than boiling water. However, it's useless if you don't have electricity. The multi-blade scissor sounds like a good idea, but it didn't look particularly sturdy. I think the mini-chopper was the best idea, since it doesn't need electricity, It also looks to be of better quality than the other two items. It think it's important for Westerners to see how other people appreciate things that we take for granted. I love how the younger lady (we *still* don't know her name!) playfully claimed all three items.
Fortunately in India, a president was elected who actually does what he promised, and he has been massively expanding the electrical grid. Nearly everyone in India has electricity now.
I wonder if there is a metal "camping" version of an egg steamer. Granted, there's always a pot with a lid and water, but they seemed particularly interested in using very little water to do the job.
@@r.h.3084 I should imagine that one could improvise one with a pot, lid, and a small rack to fit inside and hold the eggs. The principle would be the same, using steam instead of a lot of water, and it could be used on an electric stove or a campfire/propane camp stove.
They seem to enjoy each other's company, and they have much fun gossiping over the suject together. A quiet strength, a wise experience, and a smart youth complement each other quite nicely here.
I don't think there's anything I love more than these women being given access to technology that can help them in the kitchen! It's so hard. I have first-hand knowledge of the kind of constant backbreaking work they do in places like this (I used to live with a small eastern Indian tribe, for context).
Another nice lady in the team, how wonderful! Here we also can see another side of Uncle Babu, he is always the charming gentleman but with the ladies...Uncle, you must have been a real enchanter as young! 😉 I have always worked with knives in the kitchen and have seen on certain kitchen gadgets as something not necessary to have. But with years gone by, hard work and sicknesses I have started to collect some gadgets to avoid pain in my hands and being able to cook a little more healthier food (like the air fryer). We have only one body and many things can happen thru the way of life. We do not think about that when we are young and now I wish that I had thought a little different about things before. There is a lot of things we really do not need but there also is clever things that eases our life, giving us time and energy to do other important things, like spending time with our loved ones, meditate or taking a walk in nature giving gratitude to Mother Nature for her wonders.
One thing missing from the egg boiler 1) that cord is 2 wires in single single plastic not a rubber cable -> incredibly unsafe for a kitchen, any nick in it could cause electric shock or a fire ... 2) you usually have a measuring with a pin in the end to prick the egg shell so that is doesn't explode from the steam 3) the device works by boiling off the water then noticing the difference in energy needed to heat the plate (heats faster) and the thermostat then makes a buzzer to sound that means you control the cooking time with the ratio of eggs to water inside hence the measuring cup.
@@andrecostermans7109 I think I heard them mention coal as a cooking fuel in another video. Wonder if every house has one or if it's a collective oven, which would end up saving fuel for everyone.
@@matpitch-id3pp This is what I've been told by a friend having visit India about 20y ago . In the real poor communities it seems that some families gave access to their stoves , usually once a day/week, to the poorest of the lot . Those stoves stood in an isolated building and were for most part kept clean by ' the poorest of the lot'.
This was cool. The veg-slicer had a peeler they used. I would peel and cut a large potato to fit the peeler. Put water and a little lemon juice (to stop the potato from browning before you are ready to cook) in a pan and slice the potato with the peeler. Just keep peeling until no potato remains. You just made bunch of potato chips (aloo crisps). Perfect thickness for frying, and all are the same thickness.

For the egg, a simple pot with a tiny bit of vinegar in the water for easy peeling does the trick. It's good to see them having fun though.
The green cutter seems kind of crap IMO. The other two are pretty good though. Interesting to see a chopper like that (the spinning one) that doesn't run on electricity.
