  • Dismounted infantrymen from 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, assault a trench with help from Bradley Fighting Vehicles during a combined-arms live-fire training exercise (CALFEX) on Fort Cavazos, Texas, Jan 20, 2024. CALFEX helps train Troopers and units by building team cohesion through rigorous and realistic warfighting scenarios.

Greetings to allies from Ukraine. I am glad if our experience can help you in case of a big war. I want to say right away that the trenches in the video are not at all similar to the real ones. Have the soldiers dig trenches and then train in them. Soldiers would never dig such wide trenches like on video, it is just unreal.
    Thank you for your support!
P.S. As practice has shown, the best trenches are indicated in old training materials after World War I. In newer instructions, trenches are not so good. Therefore, find old instructions - it will save your life.

I think the point of these trenches are to solidify the tactics and doctrine in terms of setting up and executing an assault on a trenchline. The trench can really be any kind size or shape as its going to be how the tactics are applied to each scenario thats going to make the difference.

Better than conscripts, but not as good as experienced assault units that have been working the trenches these past two years. Their gear and training are excellent, but there are always lots of little things/a weeding process that happens in actual combat. As a small example I noticed, the Cav guys are well-equipped with optics, but I didn't see a single one with a rifle-mounted light. It is very hard to see into a dark bunker when it it is bright daylight outside, and the ability to illuminate it quickly might mean the difference between getting a shot off or getting an AK round in the face. Not as much use of grenades, too.

    Train like you fight.
The trench it self was too wide these soldiers need to feel claustrophobic , and in a very zigzag pattern form of trenches. Drawsko Pomorskie training area has real life applicable trenches. The trench does seem to be a communications trench that would be far from the frontlines but even then still not a realistic lay out i will credit that these small opening that forces them to clear corners is accurate since main line trenches are mini mazes
The soldiers should be clearing in a modified wedge same as when you walk on a road with a minimum of 5 feet apart from each other to avoid grenades or possible IDF.
When defending a trench being in exposed in the open like that when defending a trench the cant be exposed like that. Also they didn't implement a IDF drill to instill trench discipline. I get it just do a simple training, officers gets a bronze star and everyone goes home.

We didn't see the full training, but after what we see in Ukraine, we can share some thoughts on these. Trenches are too wide. I don't know why, and I don't know who made that decision, but I can say that it is stupid as hell. Troops are working too slow. A potential enemy could have already thrown a grenade in them. In questions of trench warfare, I would recommend US army to call really qualified persons, who fought in Ukraine and know how it is going.

I agree, the trench construction doesn't reflect how trenches looks on the battlefields in Ukraine. They aren't build from pretty concretes - it's just dirts on top of dirts, and more dirts on top after the trench got bombarded. the trench should also be built narrower, to reflect the realities we are seeing.

This looks great on paper. What you don't see is that these soldiers have been living in the field almost every month for a week or two for the last year and a half. They are overworked. They are exhausted. By the time war comes, rotation comes.. they are already too burned out. No down time, no family time. It's bad if you are sending already fatigued soldiers into a war or rotation.

In those 20 yeas we loss less then 3000 men compared to the Taliban losing an estimated 50,000. When we signed a peace treaty they broke that treaty while we were in process of leaving and the AFGHAN NATIONAL GOVT COLLAPSED. But ya keep defending those snakes.
