A moose full of testosterone is like an elephant full of testosterone. They KNOW they're the biggest boys around and they'll happily take the opportunity to kick some human's ass if he rubs him the wrong way. He doesn't have anything against humans PERSONALLY... but he's a giant horned animal who's extremely moody and has a lot to prove. He's not your "friend". Fascinating to watch.... from a safe distance!
When the new antlers grow back in the spring the velvet covering contains the blood flow to feed the new growth until the antlers are fully grown in the fall when they rub the velvet off and the antlers dry and get harder and they use them to fight
Oh how interesting! I had no idea they shed the "velvet" . Thanks for posting it. Very cool video. How can 46 people not like this video??? What is more beautiful than nature? SMH
All cervids (the clade containing deer) shed their antlers. They have calcified cores covered in skin, but these fall off after the rut. They regrow the antlers before the next rut, hence this behaviour. They scrape the skin off as the core calcifies, giving them bony antlers. That is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the clade. Bovids (antelope/cows,bison), on the other hand, have bony antlers that are permanent.
here we see Sam Winchester eating what he usually eats: leaves. Dean is grabbing a burger. Now he is scratching his head to think because of all the hard research. Dean is once again eating a burger. Now he attempts to finally love himself, but there is something blocking the way. He decides to deal with his emotions the Dean way, suppress them and get more food. He suddenly discovers an internal conflict and deals with it accordingly, suppressing again. Now he dreams about having a future with jess and having a baby moose. Suddenly he wakes up and realizes there is a spoon in his mouth courtesy of Dean. The moose is mad.
Wow. I've only ever seen the two taxidermy bulls at the Natural History Museum in NY. Honestly, going by how big those guys are a live bull would scare the crap out of me. I'll stick to filming the White Tailed Deer! XD
gregbalvin I've only seen a buck about 3 times in my life. They usually don't come into my backyard! XD Yeah I don't go into the woods much, I let the woods come to me.
Ah, thank you. I hadn’t noticed that you were filming from higher angle, so what I was trying to see as sky was actually a lake. A very, very still lake. Cheers!
+E. Nieminen I live in Idaho and go hunting very often and see moose. it is not rare to have what we call spoons here. every moose has those. but a very good question.
Why do the antlers have velvet and why does it come off? Is it like a snaked shedding so the antlers grow larger? And do the antlers have nerves that would make it painful as the velvet comes off?
BlastFromYesterday The antlers grow new every year and the velvet supplies them with blood as they grow. The antlers are very sensitive until the velvet comes off in mid-august and the bone hardens. The antlers fall off every year around Easter time.
Blast - its the fastest growing bone in the animal kingdom - they shed every year and regrow in 12 to 17 weeks - they will be pretty much the same shape every year but usually with the addition of an extra tine - if you look at the antlers, you can see where the veins were in the velvet which is blood filled tissue - amazing aren't they
Idk why I'm watching moose videos right now, but I'm intrigued. I knew about the antlers but I never noticed that their 'beards' are actually weird ball sack things and NOT just hair
I really like your video, I used to live in AK and see moose all the time in the back yard running past the house and stuff. I think they are the most scary, beautiful greatest animal ever! I'm just glad that you're not shooting them in your videos😭
+Unisex_ baby When they rub of the velvet I think the antlers are a little sensitive until the bone hardens up in a few days. When the antlers fall off in the winter they are just happy to get rid of the extra weight.
Very interesting. I learned something new also. Did not know they bleed, when they loose there velvet. Does it grow back each year? Beautiful Moose's Meese? lol
Thanks for watching Bob. I don't attend workshops or give them. After 41 years of working with WILD life I no longer post exceptional footage or give locations because of the damage it causes to the animals and the environment. These moose were hunted, killed and eventually hazed out of the area. I feel somewhat responsible for that. I don't post any grizzly footage now that they are hunted, and post limited wolf video and no locations for the same reasons.
no wonder when i seen a moose with all this bloody shreded velvet hanging from its horns,i thought it was blood and guts from another animal but that is natural so thanks for the info tho...

Don't compare The Mighty Moose to That weak ass Elephant. Maybe you wanted to say Rhino or Hippo
@@prehistoriccreature1800 That's funny considering Elephants make a game out of Stomping hippos and Rhinos
@@Argos-xb8ek
Dumbass... It's the other way around
Rhinos and hippos make a game out of stomping those weak ass elephants
elephants are friendly to humans
@@prehistoriccreature1800 you're laughable
Man, the moose is such an amazing and incredible animal.
+Daniel Babineau I agree

Daniel Babineau you are right moose are amazing

Wonderful filming , excellent presentation🙏 thank you dear friend

I'm just here for the supernatural refferances 😅
What is velvet?
Mooses with that type of plate antlers are rare right? I heard the ones with stick type antlers are much more common at least in finland
I believe these are Western moose -- the type they have in the US and Canada. They almost always have the big plate antlers here. :)
+E. Nieminen I live in Idaho and go hunting very often and see moose. it is not rare to have what we call spoons here. every moose has those. but a very good question.

Does it hurt the moose when they shed their antlers? It looks pretty painful lol
