Went to your company the gave me a truck that stank like dog full of dog hair. I gave them notice during orientation of my daughters graduation and that I needed to be in dallas or carthage by the 8th. Didn't have work for about 3 days truck broke down then the refeer. When I was given the last load before the trailer I was going to drop in Oregon which is not what we had agreed on so I put my notice. They don't care about anything but them getting they money.

Averaging roughly 2500 miles per week, so not working hard at all.

So 2500 every 2 weeks (bi monthly)...that's with your lease payment, down payment, fuel, license fees, registration fees, etc...already taken out.
Now, you're on a 1099 correct? So minus taxes and insurance out of that.
Maintenance? Did you figure in oil changes, tires, regular truck maintenance or care? What if the truck breaks down? There's another god knows how much depending on what it is that breaks.
I'm sorry, but to be an owner op (lease to purchase aka glorified company driver), I'd have to bring in at LEAST 3K a WEEK after everything to justify the risk. And yes...that's why I'm still a company driver. Plus.. .it's their truck, so if you want to drag up and go somewhere else...it's their truck and you have to start over with someone else.

I’m doing just under $2,500 a week before taxes. This is why I’m putting this information out there so other drivers can determine for themselves. As far as maintenance, it’s a tax deduction so it works out.

@@Americanguystuff You are right, I don't know why I said 2500 bi monthly. My mind was thinking one thing and my hands typed another. You clearly stated 4-5.5k bi monthly.
I'm just trying to see the benefit of lease to purchase. Everyone speaks against it. And even at 2500, after Uncle Sam and health insurance, that's closer to maybe 1500 if you invest in a retirement plan as well. Maintenance may be tax deductible, but lost wages aren't. It just seems completely transparent as a case of predatory lending if I've ever seen it. Don't get me wrong, it's not just you. It's everyone that falls for this. It's simple risk vs reward. Thank you for the information that you put out there and I mean nothing rude or negative. It's just simple math. The success stories of guys grossing 250-400k are the exception to the rule, not the rule....and by an unimaginable large margin.

I usually put 30% aside for taxes. My quarterly tax liability is usually around 17% with federal and state so I consistently have 13% set aside for anything that may come up.
