There will never be another broadcaster in any sport like Vin Scully. He was our dad, uncle, Tio, and best friend. I bought a tiny radio in 1970 and listened to Vinnny every night until my mom would come in and turn it off after I had fallen asleep. One day at Dodger Stadium, I happened to be walking past the media level and Vin appeared. I was hysterical and ran up to him as a 12 year old kid. I said " Mr Scully, can you sign my ball? " He said "Don't move, I'll be right back ". So I waited for 5 minutes and here comes Vin with the security guard and a mass of people chasing him. The security guard pointed to me and Vinny walked over to me. I started to hand him my ball and pen when he said " I had to go pee😂😂😂 and it's Vinny to you 😊" I had called him Mr Scully. I still have the ball. RIP VINNY 🙏
Vin Scully is one of the great Americans and people of all time. And he is the greatest sports announcer ever without doubt. Today, I am in tears feeling separation from him, although I know the Supreme Lord has blessed him and taken him to superior places where he will continue to bring joy to others. Rest in Peace Vinny. I will love you forever.
Vin is a national treasure. As a Padres fan I found myself crying. Vin, Chick, and Bob... LA greats!!!! I hope if I’m lucky enough to go to heaven, that the first thing I hear is Vin’s voice saying “Come on in and pull up a chair.”
Vinnie's innocence and humility really shine! Since hearing of his passing 3 days ago I haven't stopped crying. America has lost an optimal role model. May God rest Vinnie's soul!
I have listened to Vinny call games since I was 6 years old. Much like Vinny himself, we also had a big, upright radio that carried the games. I was drawn to his voice and listened, lying on the floor in front of that radio, for as long as I could, until I fell asleep. When I was older, my transistor radio was my best friend, as I could take him with me wherever I went! I have been lucky to have known many baseball players over the years, but not until I was talking to Don Drysdale in 1989 and Vinny came up in our conversation, did I get the thrill of Don telling me to "come to the stadium early.......I have to leave now and prep for the game. Just come on up to the Booth and I'll introduce you." THAT is how I met Vin Scully. He was so gracious and giving of his time. I asked him if he would sign a baseball for me and of course he said "Well, Don tells me you have quite a collection already. Are you sure you want *mine too*? He was kidding, of course, and he signed it. I will never let that baseball go. Rest Well, my friend...You are missed.
The Cubs had a minor league team in Los Angeles in the early 50's before the Dodgers got to town. My dad became a Cubs fan and passed it on to me as a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's. Do to the fact that we both loved baseball, we went and saw the Dodgers probably 100 times in that era. It was a special place to watch the game. But what made it special and endearing, was the voice who described it. In the 70's and most of the 80's, most of the Dodger crowd had Vinny on transistor radio. U would get in your seat and be able to hear Vin by somebody close to you. Even though we werent necessarily fans of the Dodgers, we just totally admired how Vin brought baseball to the fan. So much so that we would listen to Dodger radio even when we werent there. I have always admired Vin. Got to meet him once in Calabasas, CA. A true gentleman. Even more impressed that he honored Jesus Christ as his hero. And he also was an admirer of President Reagan.
He would have made one hell of a president. The man had amazing morals and ethics, he had compassion and strength.he was highly intelligent and knowledgeable.He knew his weaknesses and deferred to those better than him. Goes to show the kind of man he was. To steal from the hit man Bret Hart. Vin Scully was, the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.
This is so incredible. His memory just astounds me. I barely remember what I ate yesterday. I could listen to him all day calling ball games or any sport for that matter.

Today(8-20-22) is Larry Miggins 97th birthday. I had never heard of him until today. What Vin didn’t mention was it was his first career HR. Only hit one more but he realized his dream. Got to play with Stan Musial too.

For my money, Lon Simmons is the best baseball announcer ever. His baritone is unmatched. This guy is a monotone who overstayed his welcome.
