DIY Leather Drawstring Backpack (with a side seam zipper)

In this video I’m making a leather drawstring backpack. It has a fun design feature: a side zipper for easy access. I love it and it works great! Hope you enjoy!

MATERIALS:
Leather
Fabric for lining
Matching color thread
Thick synthetic cord
Zipper
A4 paper for bottom piece pattern
A3 paper for back pattern
TOOLS:
Sewing machine
Scissors
Sewing pins
Needle
Measuring tape
Aluminum ruler
Non-permanent fabric marker
Lighter
USEFUL TIPS:
Don’t use the steam setting when ironing leather. It can ruin the finish on the leather.
SAFETY NOTES:
Safety first! Always be careful with dangerous tools and make sure you know how to use them correctly. In this video I used a lighter to carefully melt the ends of the cord to keep them from unraveling. This only works on plastic based cords! Be careful with the flame!
