Little did Poo know, Ness previously discovered that this crowded circus tent held a crack in the fabric of reality that one can peer into simply by rigorously examining it. Returning to the tent, Ness unlocked the secrets of the universe, shifting reality, warping time, and was on the cusp of omnipotence. Poo was completely flabbergasted. The stoic, seasoned psychic could barely contain his joy. He rethought everything he thought he knew about the universe. Poo considered Ness to have surpassed even his respected and highly revered masters.
Ness wanted to check on Threed again. As much as he wanted to go to Onett and get the thing for the Phase Distorter, he wanted to make sure aliens weren't messing up the towns that were close by. That was it. But he heard something. A noise that was high-pitched. Coming from the tent in the town. And when he and his friends entered, it was coming from the corner. But only he could hear it. Why couldn't anyone else hear it? He had to find out. So he went to check the corner... ...To everyone else, he was just...standing there. Silent. Unmoving. Almost as though he had died standing up for a few seconds, because that's how short the time was. But to Ness? He *saw* things. He *heard* things. He *felt* things. He *learned* things. This was all a game. Nothing was real. Mom, Tracy, Czar, Paula, Jeff, Poo, everyone and everything. None of it was real. It was all...just a game someone made to be played. And he was the main character. When he finally turned around after what felt like hours to him, he was in tears. But he couldn't explain to *anyone* why he was crying. It's not like it would've changed the outcome of what was next in the "story" anyways. His life wasn't his own. No one was even "alive" to begin with. *It's all just...a game.*

I don't know if it's been discussed already, but I think the debug mode is in a very bare-bones version of Japanese. Many of the strings of letters seem to be the first letter of each sound, with "t" representing a beat (which is a small version of tsu in Japanese) and "-" representing a held vowel. To grab a few from the video: NNW SMSK? = Naniwo shimasuka? = What will you do? DRN SMSK? = Dareni shimasuka? = To whom will you do this? Yep, I’m sure that’s it. Another thing is that i’m fairly sure that there’s a fan made patch to translate the debug menu into legible english. I don’t know where i got it from (probably starmen), i just noticed i downloaded it a few years ago but never tried it out. I wonder if this seemingly gibberish was for the the original Japanese debug, or translated for the English debug. If it was translated for the localization team boy is that an unhelpful menu

I kinda like the idea that the Nothing Outside the Great Tapestry is somehow just Giygas. I mean, it would kinda make sense, it has incredible destructive power, but it's very confused and frequently ineffectual. It does things in ways incomprehensible both in-universe and out-, and it has eerie glints of self-awareness, but it can only borrow the words from other people to communicate sensibly. New Headcanon: Giygas is not inside Earthbound, he's the Nothing Outside, and the Devil Machine you face in the climax is just a more stable porthole into that antidimension.
The tent's boundary is the closest to where the tapestry meets the void, a place of ever-writhing, ever-evolving semisentience that cannot cross over unless someone opens the way by acknowledging the void beyond timespace. It may only be defeated truly via ALT+F4.
I like how at some points the game prints stuff like "NONO", as if it's telling you not to break it, begging you to keep it stable. Edit: Whoa, the glitch became sentient and then took its own life. Holy crap, that was one way to end the video, a glitch leaving a message before it kills itself off.

Chugga. Thank you. Today has been really hard for me. Like, been properly depressed today over some Family problems. To put it short, My cousins me and my parents were living with have betrayed us and nearly left us homeless. I've been trying to be strong about it, especially for my mother who's sensitive to such things, but today hit me had and I could barely find the motivation to get out of bed at times. I don't know if it's been discussed already, but I think the debug mode is in a very bare-bones version of Japanese. Many of the strings of letters seem to be the first letter of each sound, with "t" representing a beat (which is a small version of tsu in Japanese) and "-" representing a held vowel. To grab a few from the video:

DRN SMSK? = Dareni shimasuka? = To whom will you do this?
YMMST = Yamemashita = Stopped (probably cancelled in this context)

I kinda like the idea that the Nothing Outside the Great Tapestry is somehow just Giygas.
I mean, it would kinda make sense, it has incredible destructive power, but it's very confused and frequently ineffectual. It does things in ways incomprehensible both in-universe and out-, and it has eerie glints of self-awareness, but it can only borrow the words from other people to communicate sensibly.
New Headcanon: Giygas is not inside Earthbound, he's the Nothing Outside, and the Devil Machine you face in the climax is just a more stable porthole into that antidimension.
The tent's boundary is the closest to where the tapestry meets the void, a place of ever-writhing, ever-evolving semisentience that cannot cross over unless someone opens the way by acknowledging the void beyond timespace. It may only be defeated truly via ALT+F4.

Today has been really hard for me. Like, been properly depressed today over some Family problems. To put it short, My cousins me and my parents were living with have betrayed us and nearly left us homeless. I've been trying to be strong about it, especially for my mother who's sensitive to such things, but today hit me had and I could barely find the motivation to get out of bed at times. Then I saw this video.
Your little adventure with the tent had me more than laughing. It had my sides in pain over how much I was dying happy over it. I was damn near crying over how funny it was. This little 45 minutes of just pure fun has turned this hell of a life of mine around for even a moment.
