    Hey Philip, just a tip, the story about the magnetic field and sustain is just false, the magnetic field of the pickups are extremely weak. There's a UA-cam video, by Will Easy Guitar, where he puts a VERY strong magnet above the guitar and the sustain is barely affected. It's really just a myth...

    • @KingPepeLePew
      @KingPepeLePew 3 роки тому +4

      The only reason Ed only had a single humbucker in that iconic super strat was he didn't know how to wire up the guitar. he fooled around and got it to work with the volume pot and left it at that. It had nothing to do with greater sustain and every other excuse people make up. It was the result of his inability to do proper wiring with a selection switch that frustrated him and when he managed to get it working with a single humbucker he took the win and eventually our hearts with his outrageous but mystical guitar.

    • @dannomusic47

      Right.
      I just watched a video last night of him giving a tour of 5150 to what looked like an old MTV guy and he joked about that very thing.

      @@KingPepeLePew That's right. The only reason the switch isn't being used to work with both pickups is that Ed didn't know enough about wiring. Sometimes I think about getting a replica which makes the switch work just because of that. Of course sometimes I think about getting replicas of his six most famous guitars...but what am I going to do with six replicas when I don't play in a VH tribute band? LOL

    • @BirdRockin
      @BirdRockin 2 роки тому

      correct. With that D-tuna piece poking out, you can't pull back on the vibrato arm without it digging into the paint job, probably messing up and maybe eventually breaking the D-tuna as well. so you should only dive down with that arm anyway, no need to float

    Hey Love the vids!!! I was wondering what you thought of compensated nuts like the Buzz Feiten system, Earvana, eNut, funky nut etc. Do they work? Are they worth the money? I've only seen/heard one that I know of his guitar sounds great but he is also a fantastic player.

    • @diazzsama
      @diazzsama 8 років тому

      yeah do this, I'm still confused with the benefit, they say it helps the intonation, but when you hit the string at certain fret the nut doesn't contributing anything to compensate with the intonation, or Am I missing something?

    • @JoeKrol
      @JoeKrol 8 років тому

      I could be wrong but the nut has to have some effect on intonation because all you are doing when you set your intonation is making the string longer and shorter, in most cases meqasured from the 12th fret. So I would think if you have a nut that has a ledge that sits closer to the bridge saddle it has to affect the intonation. Question is, is it REALLY worth it? I'm going to be changing out the nut on my Epiphone Les Paul to a Tusq nut. I think I'm also going to give a slight flute to the back end of the nut at the D and G string slot to try an relieve some of the bend binding issue.

    Do you know if these are shipped in Eb? I bought one used, having a little trouble with the setup, it came in standard. Stays in tune but the tension on the 9s is pretty loose, and I'd rather not go up in gauge. Also have some notes fretting out on bends on the 14th and 15th frets (also happened in standard). Can't find any videos of anyone setting this up in Eb, there is one where Eddie's old tech sets up the new Frankie in standard.

    • @alphajames33
      @alphajames33 8 років тому

      +Jart Well..., to each his own. But i can't see what a speech impediment, has to do with anything. I would like to see you, though, having half your jaw replaced after an accident, like Phil's, and still have a communicative charisma, and make a successfull informative channel, like Phil's, that is even mentioned and used in occations by big guitar magazines and websites. And all this, while he's sharing his content for free. Not to mention his other professional activities. Let's see what you can do better than him.
      Yeah, he's cool. And even if he's fat and bald, he still looks cooler than you. Are you even an adult? Judging by your comments, you're not. Also, judging by your looks on the sole video of your channel, you're a teen. You're skinny. A gym subscription might help you. You, also, struggle growing a mustache or something, but your facial hair look too thin and scarce. You might wanna shave that,...maybe. Also your hair reminds me of something between Julia Roberts on "Pretty Woman", and Sophia Loren on "It started in Naples". Now all this might be your choice and preference, which is fine, but don't judge others by their looks, unless you want to be judged for yours too, which by the way, are much funnier than the man's you just rediculed. Also you certainly need to work on your manners, although that might not be your fault. At least not entirely.
      Next time, have the courtesy, to be thankfull and kind, as an appreciation for the free content, you watched. If you didn't like it, hit the dislike button, or even stop watching, if you want to. But don't insult and harass people for what you think they look or sound like.
      All the best kido.

    Hey this is great! I love this guitar, but with a Floyd Rose, (forgive me I am just a beginner), is it difficult to tune the guitar down a half step. Is it a hassle with a Floyd Rose. Will I be able to tune on the fly?

      yes

    • @musicgearnetwork
      @musicgearnetwork 8 років тому

      Not a hassle at all. You may want to loosen the spring tension though, as being tuned down will not require as much tension, thus you will have a nice spongey tremolo action. Keep in mind, if you decide to tune back up to pitch later, you will have to tighten the springs again. I have all my guitars setup for 1/2 step down.

    • @ChristianIce
      @ChristianIce 8 років тому +1

      The bridge can't go lower than that, it means you can tune it one octave down on the fly and the bridge will stay where it is.
      You should lower the tension on the springs though, otherwise using the floyd wiold be heavier, but for half a step it's minimal.

  • @LittleJimmyNorton

    Hey Phil or anyone on here, do u think a sustain Floyd Rose big block will fit? I have a EVH striped series and it doesn't look like much room in there. I don't want to buy a big block just to find out it doesn't fit. Thanks for the video. I somewhat agree with the comment before mine about building one, but I paid under $700 for mine with a hard case in pristine condition. Building one would be cool, but I don't have the time and to at least match the quality of this guitar would probably cost the same with a case if not more. I looked online and people want too much for parts and I don't have the time to wait and find deals, but again building one would be cool. Not too mention after its all together, I'd have to pay at least $100 to have it set up. Maybe one day after I'm retired il build something cool.

    Quick question, I'm playing in a 3 piece alt band (jazzy,ambient,but also rhcp style stuff) and I need an amp to play with them. Currently using a 15 watt Marshall but I'm looking for something different. Anyone have any suggestions?

    I have the Bumblebee version, not a fan of "basswood", and I had to upgrade the Floyd with a BIG Brass Block because it didnt sustain well out of the box. Otherwise it's ok for the price I guess.

    Hey brother, I've heard and maybe you can cross check, that EVH's red and white stripes on his guitar is a tribute to his mother who was Indonesian born. Cheers

    I have since figured, for the money, I would buy a Charvel SoCal. At least they aren't "Backordered" .

    Will I be able to change the tunings on the fly, from Standard Tuning to say Open G, tuning or tuning all the strings 1/2 a step?

      yes, on mine have a quick release alien wrench to unlock the nut. it takes a extra second, but you can not do it with a floating Floyd

      I'm sorry a floating Floyd Rose different from a "regular" Floyd rose? I have to ask.

      Yeah, this floyd only goes one way. It's hard decked when you're not using it, so it's more stable tuning wise.

    I thought he had the Floyd on the deck because it was the 3 model ever made and there was no such thing as a "Floyd route" on guitar bodies, so he was stuck with a surface mount instead of recessed.
