dont worry about peoples comments, its your garden do what you want with it..I think you guys have made alot of progress, all the onions and leeks will help keep pest at bay
The progress you have made in one year is astounding. So much work has been done! Your garden this time has so much potential. I can’t wait to see it grow.
You guys work so hard on your homestead and both working traditional jobs at the same time. We very much enjoy what you and Taylor have shared and we look forward to seeing how the gardens grow!
Ben mentioned that you have an abundance of eggs, & onion sets. Good for you! God bless and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻
Wow! Amazing progress for such a short time! Love you excitement and energy! One day at a time... blessings on your day and your growing season Kiddo! 🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿
I planted onion set and onion where every there was open space. I’m also going to plant onion sets this fall, because the one i planted last year over winter in cold Indiana.
Okay I know you're a few years younger than me so this reference might be lost but the little mini-map and sound effect reminds me of Pop Up Video - so nostalgic! 😍
love your videos! ground cookies! so cool. your editing is great. i love hearing about all the experiments and failures as well as seeing successes. thanks for sharing !
The garden looks good. It’s a garden in progress. Please take peoples comments with a grain of salt. They can often be nasty. Probably taking out their anger on you for their crappy life . Thank you for sharing.
WOW! You guys have done a fantastic job. Your garden is huge and you will eventually reap the rewards. Only a year ago most of this was just weeds. Do not forget to use the chickens as composters as do the Hollers and Edible Acres. I cannot wait for a few months to see growth and blooming. Always God Bless Joe Scott Muddy Dog Ranch
Maybe a cute little pond with a little walk bridge for the Cottage Garden? Would also be fun for the ducks I absolutly love this chanel you and acre homestead are my favorite Hope your chanel grows huge so that you can make it your fulltime job Also you said you have alot of pecan seedlings, why Arent you selling them? Lots of love from the netherlands
This is the Allium Paradise I intended to plant this winter (I live in the SF Bay Area in CA). But hey, I got my garlic, fave beans, peas and sweet peas in! Very impressed with your very organized garden. Your ducks seem very well behaved! I have had chickens twice, but the garden didn’t survive their presence.
Have you ever thought about buying these cute mushroom sculptures and adding gnomes, fairy sculptures to your cottage garden to give it the cottage garden vibe and if you ever have a child in the future it will be a cute place for him/ her also add a small fish pond to your cottage garden or any other water feature to add to the zen mode of your cottage garden
I would love to do that in the future! Things that are just for aesthetics aren’t really in our budget right now, but I definitely have plans to do that. It would be so magical ✨
@@calicocowacres there are ways to make one buy a pond from home depot or wherever you live or order online dig a hole where you want one and buy an oxygen filter or something there are cheaper one you dont have to buy a huge one or expensive even an old bathtub can make a cute pond and you can build a water feature I think theres tutorials for that but no rush hun take your time you have already done great and continue to do so you and your hubby are an inspiration to the other young couples out there
Since I am trhe complete opposite of a green thumb, I am going to grow my knowledge! We are moving into our Tiny House on Wheels, relocating to another area of the state and hopefully buying a few acres of our own; lots to learn :D
Hello Calico Acres from 40 Shades of Green Farm. We’re most excited about growing pigs this year. We just went at the beginning of the march and picked them up from KC Farms, a UA-cam channel farm in northeast Tennessee. We got a breeding pair. Well almost a breeding pair, the little boar is still a little too young to breed. Great progress on your garden space. It’s beautiful and quite the accomplishment.
Next year, get packages of onions, I grow red and white storage onions, and Walla Wallas. Plant the seed in a 6-8” pot indoors first week in Feb. I am planting mine now, normally it would be 10 days ago but we have had cold weather still. Peas and onions are not good companions
Great video! I'm also behind. Just posted my reentry to recording and shared I'm starting a garden. Feeling so far behind. I've nothing started but it'll all work out.
The garden 🪴 looks so good already! Great job! I’ve been along from the start & thoroughly enjoy the progression of your garden journey. Strawberry mint has me so intrigued now, will def have to try to find it at our local nursery. My starts are taking over our house, I was a-little ambitious I think 😂 so looking forward to trying broiled Cubanelles from our garden this year (I believe you mentioned those before).
i love cottage gardens but it's way too hot here to do a true cottage garden but i still try, am currently planting bulbs for winter colour an inspiration I got from another UA-camr called 'monalogue' she is in England but her bulbs are stunning! i think your chooks would benefit from many greens that humans no longer eat ( that we should still eat) I grow dandelions in my garden, very useful plant & great for eating too; dandelions, plantain, comfrey, chicory, clover, etc; i buy 'Clucker Tucker' which has a variety of seeds to grow for my chooks, think you mentioned something about a forage mix 'the Weedy Gardener' & 'the Dutch Farmer' both have videos on 'swales' & how to best use them, i found this very interesting. you do a great job planting & growing, i would love my mint to grow wild but it's too hot for it to do that, good luck getting yours going, anything is better than grass looking forward to seeing your gardens in a few weeks when everything is growing well thanx so much for sharing
It seems you have it planned out for your mint.. let it grow! However I would be concerned with the horseradish there, LOL, those roots will go down 12 feet once established.. and each piece of root left will create a new plant. Since the roots are so deep it will be hard to remove after established. Good luck, everything is looking great!
Just like the mint, the horseradish doesn’t really spread or grow massive here. Our neighbors have been trying to get theirs to spread for years & it just doesn’t. I’m telling ya, this clay is tough stuff😂
If you want a whimsical sort of orchard, you should definitely look up Floret flowers she has beautiful, natural varieties that’ll make your whole garden look like a fairyland. If anything, you should definitely check out their UA-cam channel to see what I’m talking about. But I feel they have the best varieties for planting if you want to restore like natural looking flowers to the land instead of like a commercial look
Could you please, please, please send me a couple clippings of the chocolate mint after it establishes. I’ve looked for it & can’t find any. At my last home it grew in my lawn & nothing smelled better than the smell when the lawn was mowed.
Too bad it is not a perennial there but Lemon Grass goes great with mint. I love my Lemon Grass Tea. I am having to rebuild as I didn't get it covered before our freeze this year and sadly lost 99% of it
I bought them as plants at the Asheville nc farm where you live festival last April. I’ve heard it’s pretty difficult to start mint from seed, so I typically just buy it as a plant & I’ll take cuttings to multiply it
@@calicocowacres lettuce , rhubarb, and several other garden veggies like low acidity soil ,,simple way to lower acidity is lime or calcium which is in milk and would have very little affect otherwise,,it might work just according
I think your hubby should build a whimsical cottage so you can keep all your garden stuff in
I like that idea😍
Can’t wait to see your garden this summer when everything is thriving!!! Everything looks really good!!!

You can never have too many onions. or garlic. or peppers. or tomatoes.
With mint, you have the space for it to spread. It's not in a small house yard.
The veg garden looks great. Well done.

We have onions growing from seed this year, too. They’re just not in the garden yet!
Hey just think you should pinch the top off of your strawberry and chocolate mint, that should help it take over

Can we call this garden tour "Mickayla's onion garden" ?
What are you two going to do with that many onions??😂
Eat em! Make em into onion powder, use them in canning for pickles, salsas, tomato sauce, etc.😁

Interesting! I’ll try it. Thank you!

Your ducks will eat your garden! Once they can't dig in dirt they'll start on whatever is green.
