    I squeaked by Geometry in HS with a C-, in college went through Algebras Trigonometry Real Analysis ,a slew Calculus's w Analytical Geometry, Stats and Probability no problem.
    Now I'm almost 60 after a career in Industrial Maintenance/Electro-Mechanical Tech. I've always felt a big hole in my maths because of my ignorance of and inability to tackle basic geometry that required any kind of rigor or original on the spot analysis. I look forward to being a Maker in retirement and am thinking its time to get serious about plane and solid geometry. I dug out my old Drafting /Mechanical drawing kit and High School Geometry Text yeah I still have it and my goal is to complete every damn proof in the book no cheating.
    This video is the first time, that I can remember at least, that I was presented with a skeleton of the methodology involved in a formal proof. I must have missed that class or my attention was elsewhere at the time.

    I’m fed up with mathematics, why can’t I just graduate already? It’s not hard to believe knowing that all teachers are the kind of people who are excessive or rather extra when explaining something so simple like a freaking proof! I’ve been looking up what a proof was for a while and then I have wasted a few hours trying to find a simple explanatory video that explains proofs exclusively, only to find this video which gave me more then simple! So thank you for actually giving me the tips and tools need to prepare myself for a test I’ve got on Monday! I haven’t slept yet and it’s already the next day!! May I ask? I don’t want to offend people who truly loves geometry. But is Geometry is just a set of rules that you must follow? I really love math, especially arithmethic. But I really am bad at geometry actually. Because this video stated that we must know all the theorems, postulates, and definition. Do we really need to know all the rules? I think geometry is actually nice, but I just can’t process it well. For me it just doesn’t make sense. I try reading Euclidean Geometry Book but all I see is a bunch of statements. If u have a nice book, please recommend it. I am not learning 4 school, so it can be any books. And again, i am sorry if this offends anyone. I believe geometry can be fun, maybe I process it wrongly. Thanks! (Sorry 4 my english btw)

    Another tip is to, ignore where you're going. So what I like to do whenever im trying to prove is I like to get a separate sheet of paper and redraw the proof, rewrite the given, but ignore what I'm trying to prove, then from what is given I try and prove everything I CAN prove, just by looking at the given and examining the drawing. Then once I've proven everything I can, I then look at what I needed to prove in the first place.

    I know this is elementary....you gotta know the symbols and types of triangles...and angles.

      Alternate interior are inside (or between) the parallel lines while exterior are on the outside of the parallel lines.

    If u still have access to the reference sheet (from the beginning) can you email that to me or do a video on it. I will provide my email if u respond to my comment. Nvm i have found your email, and have contacted you.

    Why couldn't you just prove the vertically opposite angle has to be the same, therefore the angles are equal. Skipping the whole congruent part.

    • @Grizzly01
      @Grizzly01 3 роки тому +1

      Showing that the angles are equal (AAA) will only prove that the triangles TOB and SOA are similar.
      You need some info about the sides to prove they are congruent (which is the whole point of the question), and this is provided by the 'O is the midpoint of AB' given.

  • @tmax747

    AAS congruence and HL congruence are the same thing right?

    • @Grizzly01
      @Grizzly01 3 роки тому

      Not really.
      The HL postulate is a special version of SSA, which normally is not a valid postulate to prove congruence, except in the case where the angle is 90°
