Hi, just found your channel and this is one of the most relatable videos I have seen. My son is 15 and a couple of years ago we did a big clear out like this, I let him make all the decisions and the full set of diary of a wimpy kid, soft toys etc were decluttered but he couldn't part with his nerf guns or wrestling figures. We have continued to do a declutter a couple of times a year and the nerf guns and wrestling figures have now been decluttered but my son just needed to make the decision for himself. I think this is the perfect way to teach your children about how to deal with their things. Fantastic job well done, I look forward to more of your videos.😊
Hi Judith! Thank you so much for leaving me such a sweet and encouraging comment! I’m so glad that you found the video relatable. That’s exactly what I’m aiming for, is to help encourage others through my own experiences! It sounds like you and your son have a similar dynamic to me and mine! I definitely think it’s so important to let them make their own decisions and not force them to part with something until they are ready. I so appreciate you sharing your experience with me because it encourages me that I’m doing good things! Thank you so much for watching and having a conversation with me! I love talking with people here! ❤️
Oh lord your opening is hilarious 🤣I will never forget when I was in college I was taking a film class and two friends of mine who were also friends and had an apartment together let me use their apartment to film. Well the day I showed up to film I was shocked. I have never seen anything so messy and dirty in my life it was INSANE. You could not see the floor or any surface it was all covered in junk and there piles of dishes all over the kitchen, old food ALL over the place piles of garage I just could not get over it. But yes I am glad you are teaching them about decluttering and straightening and cleaning. 150 My Little Ponies wow. And wow this is a lot of toys! The stench under the bed 🤣🤣🤣Yes still hanging on to childhood here a bit it is hard to give up ones toys and letting go. So nice your kids help you with the videos. Oh yeah my mom kept my artwork too. You really got A LOT done good job! 👏👏👍 and new subbie here lets connect and keep up the great content here! ☺🥰
Aw, thank you so much! I was wondering how funny I actually was, lol. It sounds like your friend’s apartment was quite a jungle. But I really can’t say anything. That’s pretty much how my whole house looks. I’m coming off quite a long battle with depression. I talk about it here and there and how it’s affected me. Yes, my kids have so many toys. Most of them have been gifts from family and friends for birthdays and such. I just haven’t decluttered in so long they’ve accumulated beyond all reason. 🤣 And yeah thinking back, I probably didn’t actually have 150 ponies. It felt like it at the time. But I did have a big box full. I do my voice overs on the fly, so I say what comes to mind. Anyway thank you so much for watching and supporting!
I understand,I have a 15 and 11 year old. They are growing up to fast!!!😢😢. I miss them when they go to camp for a week. I don’t even wanna think about them moving out someday.😢😢😢. I try to treasure every moment with them.I know sometimes things get crazy and chaotic but I know it’s not gonna last forever. Great video 😊😊
Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, I have a hard time thinking about my kids leaving too. I know it’s natural but it’s still hard! My heart goes out to you!! I appreciate you watching!!
Love the monster story, so true! I know when bedrooms need to be cleaned out when most of the forks are missing!🤣Lots of candy wrappers and candy that is most definitely years old.I agree with being respectful to the kids with their things. That is why I always tell my girls they need to be there and help because it's their decision. My Little Pony story was so sad and for you to remember it so many years later shows what an impact it made on you. Your son did a great job and I think he's going to enjoy his space even more.🤩
Yes!!! Kids and teens with the hoarding of dishes! It’s insane. And wrappers everywhere. I don’t even want to know what’s hiding behind my bed. My daughter has actually been sleeping in the bed with me, and I know she takes snacks in there…👀. Glad you enjoyed my little attempt at being funny. I actually look back at the My Little Pony story with fondness. My mom definitely wasn’t trying to traumatize me, haha! She just figured I’d forget about the headless horse. When she realized how much it meant to me, she didn’t hesitate to go dumpster diving to get it out of the trash. I guess that is why I’m so careful with my kid’s stuff, though. I’d like to avoid ripping open garbage bags if I can. 😂
hahaha...this is exactly what my experience is with my teens. I just keep trying to lead by example and sometimes yes that means giving the example of being "a work in progress". My daughter was about that age when she wanted to get rid of her white bedroom furniture...now she wants it back. I vote you keep her furniture : )
Kids don’t ever know what they want, do they? 😂🤦♀️ Unfortunately she really needs a double bed. She’s a very active sleeper and she doesn’t sleep well in this twin bed anymore. We actually just sold the set today. But I told her whatever she gets this time she will be stuck with it so she’s better pick out what she really wants! I definitely am a work in progress for sure! I’m very fortunate my kids are do caring, sensitive and forgiving! Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate you!
Oh, I feel you! I refer to the basement, my son's domain as the abyss! If I'm missing chip clips, spoons, water bottles, they are probably there. Generally I ask not to leave food or drink in their rooms. But when I see it ooze ou into hall, well I ask please let me help!
YES!!! The abyss is a good word for the habitats of most teens! Since doing this I have been helicoptering over my sons room probably a little more than I should, but man I don’t wanna do this again! I think all mama’s just want to help. Otherwise we can guarantee that the actual mess will be cleaned, lol! Thank you for the comment, Janet! I love talking with people!
Momma I am right there with you!!! My son turns 15 in a couple of weeks and I am struggling. I ugly cried the other day thinking about him leaving me. We just did his room the other day and it feels so good to have it done.
You get it!! I’ve ugly cried a lot since decluttering my kids rooms. That may be part of the reason I avoid doing it so much. It’s just an in your face reminder that they are growing up so very fast. Not saying that’s the right thing to do. Just sayin’… anywho, If I could give you a hug mama to mama, I would! I feel that pain in my soul! But yes, on the bright side, it does feel good to have the rooms done and all pretty again!
I just found your channel. I just love it. I tend to enjoy voice overs. Your son is precious and sentimental. Times were different when raising my kids. My youngest seemed to enjoy my failures I had with the older ones. We all learn from our mistakes. Lol. Keeping the plushies is so sweet. I doubt he will dig through them and play, so maybe you can put them in sturdy plastic bins and throw them in the attic. When they leave home is when you can bring the treasures out for the grand babies. I did this for my youngest. She never had kids, so I ask her if Barbie could come out and play when her niece was the Barbie age. They have since gone to live with her. I’m sure she still has everything. At least I don’t have to keep anything anymore. LOL. I still have all the memories and that’s enough for me.❤
Hi!! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!!thank you, yes my boy is very sensitive. I think the plushies will have to eventually go. Excel for the special ones of course. That’s so awesome that you kept some toys for the grandkids! I’m sure your niece loved the Barbies! Thank you again for the sweet comment!
Aw, thank you, sis!!! I can hardly believe it! I’m just so thankful, and I’m especially thankful to you and all my earliest subscribers and viewers. Your comments and encouragement are what kept me excited about posting! Love you!!!❤️
Thank you! It was hard work, for sure. I didn’t know you could sell books to Barnes and Noble. We usually trade our books into our local used bookstore and get store credit. The ones they don’t take we donate! ☺️
I have two teen sons and although their mess is usually clothes and smelly shoes they are otherwise pretty good at using the trash and the clothes hamper. I think I just nagged them to death growing up and so they were never too bad. In their younger years the kitchen and dining room was the only place they could have food or drinks. And that’s just my upbringing as well. As teenagers they do take snacks into the room but for the most part garbage goes in the bin. Now if nobody empty’s the trash bins, I’m sure there would be nasty stuff in their room. My youngest usually gets fed up of the mess and goes a little crazy and cleans and dusts his room. Ant or spider sightings are a big motivator.😂
That’s awesome! I wish I would have been more strict about my kids bringing food into their rooms. The good thing is, I think my son was fed up with this mess too. Since we did this he has been keeping it pristine! I haven’t found a bit of trash in there. I’m proud of him! Sounds like you’re doing an amazing job with your boys!
I loved this video so much made me really open my eyes to not just trashing stuff cause i think it needs to go... also you son reminds me of my son so much wowwww.... mine is 11 but i can see him in yours as he grows a little older
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!! It is so hard to not just get rid of stuff believe me. There were so many times I just wanted to take over and do it myself. I just kept telling myself that it’s good for my kids to go through this process to learn how to do it. And how cool that my boy reminds you of yours! It’s always neat when we see kids that are like our own. My son for instance, is a very quiet, genteel soul. Very unlike most boys his age. It’s refreshing when we do meet other boys of like mind. ☺️
@uncoveringmycozylife mine son is also quite and so sweet... he loves collecting things like rocks and different things... but yes is so hard to not want to just trash it when it's broken
Thank you for commenting and watching! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I wish that were the case with my 9 year old. I have a video of her room as well. Twice as messy! 😂 But yes, teens can be…yikes.
My youngests room was the same, we used to call his room "The Black Hole" 😆 he's 27 now and flat shares with my oldest son. His bedroom hasn't changed much I'm afraid. My oldest son sends me pics of it 🤣🤣
The black hole, lol! I love it! I called the underside of my son’s bed “The Abyss”. Of course I can’t really say much since the rest of my house doesn’t look any better at the moment. I’m going room by room cleaning and decluttering. That’s so awesome that your sons share a place! Does your youngest ever get mad at his brother for ratting him out to mom? 😂❤️
I’m so glad you enjoy them! This one was taxing because the video is so long and I had to do it all at once to get it published on Saturday, lol! I hope it didn’t get too rambly towards the end.🤦♀️ I’ve got to learn to do them in segments. Ugh, so many food wrappers!! I was saying to myself, “how on earth do we not have a rat problem?” 😂
@@herhomemakingheart I know, right?? Honestly, I don’t think anyone has a unicorn child, lol! Besides, the messes in the kids rooms are nothing compared to the mess in my room. For some reason, my room gets more neglected than any other room in my house, go figure!
Hey girl! Just found your channel! I don’t have teenagers yet, but my oldest is 10 and will be entering the stage soon. You did an awesome job cleaning and decluttering! Hi Lotus and welcome!! I’m so happy that you enjoyed the video!! I actually have a 9 year old girl and she’s like, 10 times messier than her brother, lol! Kids, what can ya do? Filming can definitely make the job extra exhausting. And then you have to edit! I do love it though. It’s like creating a little keepsake collection of all your hard work. I truly appreciate your comment and support! It means the world to me!
Yes ma’am I definitely know I’ll will miss it terribly. I actually kind of got a kick out of finding that plate under his bed. Such a teen boy thing to do. And I had myself a good cry when we were all done because I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I was going to miss it.
