I'll never get over the 1 second of a cloud person chasing a robot with a fucking knife. I rented this from my library YEARS ago, and that 1 second is etched into my brain forever.
Wurdswurth I just watched this again and I was thinking how perfect the sound fx/foley art is. Beyond just his animation, Don does amazing work with sound
I remember the first time I saw Billy's Balloon, my faith in humanity increased and I realized there were some cool people in the world. Probably not the reaction it usually gets.
Saw this in theaters when it came out and I was in high school. Went with my best friend. I have never laughed harder in a theater in my entire life, to the point we were having trouble breathing.
If you guys are wondering about the context, The Animation Show was a touring animation festival showcasing the work of several different animators; these Hertzfeldt shorts were used to bookend the actual films being showcased.
So many good lines. Before I could watch UA-cam on a phone, I ripped the audio from these clips and put it on my ipod to listen in the car. It helped me to memorize every word and sound to perfection, and while its obviously a complete package-experience with the a/v, listening to the audio by itself is very interesting and enjoyable
There is a giant eyeball, and it is looking at us! I am drawn toward this giant *zap* *pop* Let's all go to the lobby! May be the funniest thing I have ever seen. First time I saw it I almost suffocated.
This isnt the "Full" Animation Show, the full thing is a two part movie with different mini stories & art work like clay & CG art. One was clay where these two rock beings saw time indifferent perception, for them they moved, acted & reacted in normal speed while the background moved at fast speeds watching rise & falls of different cultures & civilizations of man come & go; a fascinating perspective on time, consciousness, life on humanity from where mainstream historians & scientist says we began till nowish & how perception can be tilted a bit it changes the whole story. Theres more like a man looking inside a hole that turns out to be the same man looking in a hole & goes on & the hole is in his or on his head.... both in & on... anyways the perception of looking into oneself conscious & find it layered over layer of oneself to a endless being, but again its how one perceives & interprets the art.
Die Fledermaus!!!!! I never thought that it would be at the start and end of this weird animated video! I am in orchestra and we have been doing this song this year. Lol! Such a fun overture full of comedy!
My only criticism is that Don Hertzfeldt seems to have trouble with lip syncing his drawings with the audio but other than that, his animations are awesome.
Its because he's just reusing the same frames over and over again to save time (or maybe he was just being lazy), the parts that weren't prolonged periods of one character talking were lip synced just fine
Yeah I think he does it on purpose, since the whole 'hey do you want to go see a movie' scene in the rejected cartoons I just assume that when the lip sync is noticeably bad he's just screwing around
I don't know if it's the case here, but in the Rejected commentary, Hertzfeldt said he did the animation before having any lines recorded, giving them more freedom for adlibbing and such.
This UA-cam video was one of the most significant parts of my childhood and now I have a tattoo of it ♥️
Was the tattoo of one of the cotton-looking guys?

“I’m sweatin’ like a pony” is one of those phrases I say to myself on a regular basis that nobody else understands
I'll also frequently say, "It's like I can touch you!" whenever I put on sunglasses and no one knows what the hell I'm on about.

“The animated arts are-“
*”ROOOOOBOOOOOOOTTTTTS”*
with the unfortunate rise of ai art/animation, this quote has never been more relatable
This is what true mastery of the animated media looks like.
This brings back so many memories.😁

I can't tell you how many times I watched this in middle school, good times ❤️ nooo shmokin' and no flash photography ❤️
At the lollipop scene I almost died of laughter.
Wat da faaaa!!!

I have no idea why this man is allowed to interact with the rest of us in the outside world.
...But I wish he did so more often. This is amazing.
I want a 2 hour version of the "Robots!" scene.
same here
but with overused sound effects
"ITS LIKE I CAN TOUCH YOU" one good pun and i believe in human race again
WHAT PUN I DONT GET IT
I still think the guys bashing the paper from the otherside in rejected cartoons was probably the best use of the medium I have ever seen.
07:26 I love the cannon sound!

Enhanced by following the mouth explosion noise just 3 seconds earlier.😂
Oh my gosh, you’re right. That’s funny. 😆
3:27 I don’t think the audience got any 3-D glasses…

1:56 "they drew me too many a-"
that always makes me laugh
Every year or so, i keep coming back to this masterpiece of animation and laugh my ass off 😂😂😂😂🤣
The credits at the end are for all the animators in the animation show. They were not shown with this piece, just the Hertzfeldt intermission scenes.
When I was in middle school the part with the live action toy horses and the cow was the FUNNIEST SHIT EVER for some reason.
My dad took to me to this when I was a teenager, it was AWESOME!
This animation show is certainly the most animation.

With just a little bit of editing this could be the best anti-drug commercial ever
drugs aren't as good as Don Hertzfeldt animations.
