- Sarcococca Confusa (Christmas box) winter flowering fragrant shrub in my walled garden.
Sarcococca (sweet box or Christmas box)is a genus of 11 species of flowering plants in the box family Buxaceae, native to eastern and southeastern Asia and the Himalayas.
They are slow-growing, monoecious, evergreen shrubs 1-2 m (3-7 ft) tall. The leaves are borne alternately, 3-12 cm long and 1-4 cm broad.
They bear fragrant white flowers, often in winter.

I love everything about your video. Very informative, interesting and well explained. Subscribed. Thank you 💚
Thank you very much for your comment. I’m glad it was informative.
Sarcococca Confusa is such a great shrub for the winter, it’s evergreen, it flowers in January
/February and the scent intoxicates any garden in deepest darkest winter.
Yes I agree and they will grow in full shade where nothing much else will thrive.
One of my Yoga friend's came to visit me yesterday and had brought me cuttings of this beautiful plant...I placed in water and this morning my kitchen was filled with the gorgeous scent.
I'm definitely going to hunt for this plant.
Thank you for upload
Thanks for watching. This is really sending of a scent at the moment.
Subbed :)
I have a question! I have read that it loves sheltered places. I live in the Chester ,NW of England (your accent tells me you live or was born near me ) , I have 2 in troughs facing south under my window in the front garden. Would you recommend me moving them to a sheltered spot or place where i get very little sun? i get a few hours of sun in the summer months in the back garden but i know this is a winter bloomer. Would the summer sun kill this plant?
Cheers and keep making those videos :)
Thanks much for watching and for the sub. The plant will be fine in the sun but it you don’t want it getting too dry so you may need to water it if it gets too hot. Mine does not get any sun all winter and it still flowers well. This is one of the few plants that will tolerate full shade however it will appreciate some sunlight.
@@mywalledgarden Cheers bud. I'll keep it in the front but i may move it into soil in front of the garden fence.
Can you grow indoors this plant
HI, you would need a good sized pot. Remember that this plant does not like the heat and likes to be well watered as it prefers the shade. It is famous for the scent of the flowers in winter. I’m not sure how strong that would be indoors. You would have to make sure you like it.
I have one of these in a shady place but it has no fragrance at all, what am I doing wrong? Thank you
That is strange, when it flowers here it can sometimes be overpowering. is it flowering much?
@@mywalledgarden Yes it does flower and has lots of black seeds? afterwards
Yes the flowers always have scent in my garden and I have tried different varieties.
@@mywalledgarden Perhaps mine is not getting enough sun
Can I plant it in a hot and humid climate..?
It likes water and shade, I have not done any research about a really hot climate but I would imagine a plant like that would not like being in really hot sun and dry soil. I suppose it depends on where you put it.
@@mywalledgardenactually am living in a such place where hot and humid is much, even this plant also not available around..
