- The 2nd installment of Category 5, our new interview series named after the cables used to enable modern digital communications ( i.e. we record the series via Skype & iPhone ) features Matt Sharp, the mastermind behind synth heavy alt-pop band The Rentals. Matt and the band are on tour in support of Lost In Alphaville, the first Rentals LP in 15 years. Did you see them in Phoenix? Their show in Boston MA that year was one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen. They played for 2 hours, dressed as Ghostbusters, and played an intimate song in the middle of the audience. And I met Matt after. I hope you saw it. Also, TMZ is a cancer to society so find another way to make money, you tapeworm; and tell your paparazzi pariah dork friends. I don’t have any respect for you unless you do anything else to make money.
His band used a 1981 Moog Source and an Opus-3.
Man the rentals and Matt's stuff is so underrated. Loved them in the 90's and had a fanboy revival in the present day. Fuck I'm old.

few bands in the early 90's used moog synths up front...rentals were one and the country disco chocolate covered satan group were another,altho they were coming from a different area alltogethr..anyone else?
+PoserExposer The Hippos were so proud of their synth usage that I saw a kid one time wearing a Hippos t shirt that just had the band name and a picture of a synth on it.
