Oh my! This is jyst my cup of tea seeing these cakes and it takes me back to the 60's. Summer holidays playing with my friend and goi g to her house and her mother bringing out a dish of prunes and custard. My friend would only eat the syrup with the custard, as she thought she would get the prune stones stuck, but i loved mine, then we would pace the stones around the edge of the dish (none of these plastic ones they have these days) but proper white dishes for puddings. As well as enjoying the tinned prunes and custard (made with Bird's powder from the tin) ienjoyed her mother's apple pie, also with custard. Thin crust plate apple pie, ooh can picture it now, me and my friend sat at the table in the lounge and playing the tinker taylor, soldier spy with the prune stones. Happy days!
