I got an A* at A level maths and I found making a list of all past paper questions you got wrong, then going over them once you’ve finished all the past papers really helpful. You’ll begin to see what questions you struggle with the most and gets you into the habit of practicing what you find hard! Good luck to everyone ☘️☘️

@@fatimaisse1688 I am also doing A level maths and I have found it really helpful to use a ring binder with subject dividers (aside from school homework and notes). Print off the formula sheet and the specification and put them in the ring binder. Then have a section of the ring binder for your "weak areas", "weak questions" and "past paper log". I have been doing the 2017, 2018 and 2019 papers. I do them under exam conditions. Afterwards I write down in my past paper log how long it took me, which questions I struggled with on that paper and which topics I need to refresh after doing that paper. Then I mark the paper and try to understand all of my mistakes. And then I redo that paper a couple of days later and keep redoing it and logging my progress until I get over 90%. Aside from that I keep a small flash cards book to write down any big key points that I then use during my past papers. Don't stress out! All you need is to do past papers, be familiar with your formula sheet, memorise the key facts like how to find the centre of a circle from the formula and you will do brilliantly. Also really make sure you train yourself to finish the paper in the time provided because I often slow down and take 3 and a half hours to complete a 2 hour exam so that I my only worry at the moment. 1) when you say "under exam conditions" and "i write how long it took me in my past paper log"- does that mean you take as long as you want on the paper, but you just don't use notes to help you?

Under exam conditions just basically means do it all in one sitting without distractions and try to fit it into the time you would have in an exam. I was doing Edexcel Maths so in an exam I would have 2 hours to complete the paper, so I tried to do it in 2 hours when I was doing past papers. But if 2 hours had gone by and I still hadn't finished, I would continue working and make a note of how much extra time I needed before I finished the paper. In the exam I really struggled with time so it is really important to try and practice doing the past papers in the time you will have in the exam.
Regarding notes, because you need to repeat each past paper a couple of times until you get about 90% or higher I would recommend trying doing the first attempt without notes, just to see where your weaknesses are. Then in your next attempts, use your notes if you need them because my using your notes you will automatically help you to memorise them so that's a good thing! I am innately the same in nature. It's best to get into the habit of stopping making excuses for why you can't get it done, and start focusing on all the reasons for why you must make it happen. Procrastination is opportunity's assassin. The path you talk about isn't the path you can walk on. It's all about changing habits. As after all, our habits and what we think makes us who we are. Thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become character, character becomes destiny. Do you wan't a life of getting nowhere? Or are you willing to change your habits. The true decider on whether you will succeed will be if you have the courage to conquer your own mind. Don't let your subconscious thoughts imprison you. Notice them. Unlearn and then relearn. Confidence is your best friend, and without belief in yourself, you won't do it. Believe you can, and the rest will fall into place. After all, a journey of 1000 miles starts with the first step. @@touming9257 To people like us though it feels inherent, for me literally everything I do has procrastination added to it. Watch UA-cam? Mehhh I'll just open these videos and watch them later after this one( I don't) Revising *anything* ? " I'll do it after this", "I'll wake up early tomorrow and get it out the way". Nothing works, and when I do somehow manage to work, I work on one, maybe two topics then I'm done.
I have days until my maths mocks, which will be possibly more important than end of year because of the Covid situation, and I told myself I'd do work in November, then the 2 weeks off and only at the very latter stages of this time off I've realised how much I have to revise and how little time I have to revise it so right now I'm doing the final stage of the procrastinator cycle and I'm preparing to be disappointed in results

UK everytime I ask people questions when I don't understand something, every single one of em ignores me especially if I ask through texts. Even the teachers ignore me. So what am I supposed to do? Internet is not always reliable either.

Totally agree with you, I did a level maths (over 3 years ago now 😂) and I literally did every single past paper question and got an A* too. I remember when I first started doing mechanics I would get C's and Ds and eventually it clicked. Now I'm in the fourth year of a physics degree and honestly questions is still the same way of how you end up doing well and understanding content.

These are so helpful! Thank you! I am in y11 right now and I am taking maths, chemistry, physics and further maths at a level, so this and the chemistry video are very useful and informative, thank you!
As someone who also got an A* last year (new spec too, so I hope it applies), I figured I'd add some tips that were more specific to maths.
1. Understand as much as you can. While learning a method can be hard enough, if you can (asking a teacher, finding a video, etc) try your best to understand this process and why it works. Not only does it make it easier to derive your own methods if you can't come up with the one you learnt, it's easy to apply it to questions that aren't directly something you've practised. In mechanics, I've found this especially works.
2. If you're not sure you've got the right process/answer, test it with smaller numbers, actual numbers, in a calculator, etc. I'll keep the examples simple. eg. you can't remember how indices laws work. does a^2*a^3=a^5 or a^6? let a=3 or any other number, type both into your calculator and see which one works. You've solved an integral but aren't sure it's right? make up some limits, test it in your calculator and then calculate with what you got. Do you get the same thing?
3. Proofs - if you can't do it forward, try working backwards. Just make sure once you've got it, you make sure you rewrite it all back up the other way. You can't prove something assuming it's true.
4. Same thing with show that questions - if knowing the answer helps you figure out what to do with the equations you have, USE IT! there's not point not. You might not have the most perfect argument, but you might pick up an extra point or two.
5. If you don't know how to do a question, start as much as you can. Write down equations you can form, substitions that could work, etc. Testing and trying sometimes enlightens you on the actual method. or gives you a mark or two.

I'm officially done with school so I don't go there anymore but I have final exams (bio, chem, literature, English) and entrance exams (bio, chem, physics) ahead so I'm studying all alone at home each and every day. I'm resitting my A Level Mathematics and Physics. I'm currently a 2nd Year Mechanical Engineering student in the UK.
I would have never thought I'd make it to university despite not being so great at mathematics. In GCSE'S I moved from set 4 in Mathematics to set 1 in YR 11 which was the start of the journey to prove that I was capable of much more and achieved a high B overall. This major movement from the bottom to the top was realising that working harder on my studying and facing myself on all the things I sucked at was the journey that I had to take. Despite this grade I still had my eyes set on the transition to A level mathematics. I kept up some practice and was admitted to do A Level Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. I achieved BCD ( learning about [B]inary [C]oded [D]ecimal in a module brought me back to thinking about these grades during the lecture).
For AS Mathematics my grades were B-A-D, for C1, C2 and S1 respectively. C2 was my best module since I scored a very high A and was offered to do further mathematics but turned it down because peers around me told me there was no point and it would be hard.
Physics A level was surprisingly well in AS and I would do very well in the class tests. I call my self out on getting distracted, starting to slack and thinking that I'm good, not remembering the work I had to do to bring myself to this stage. A few months before mocks I got hit off my bike while riding to school and fractured my hip so was out of college for a few months which distracted my studies and was a scary experience.
Getting back to A Levels in 2nd year there was a lot of baggage that I didn't deal with in term 1. It felt so easy to just say it's not my fault I didn't deal with it because I got hit off my bike. Taking this mentality was easy and I didn't approach the level of studying that was needed. I was more than capable of getting higher grades but my laziness and thinking I'm good just kept saying it's okay. I had to call myself out and despite putting a lot of effort in to catch up on content I burned out from staying up all night before my exams. This is what leads to bad grades in any subject.
Upon receiving my grades B-C-D I felt like a failure and didn't want to be seen amongst other peers my offers for my two universities offered me a Foundation Year. I made a decision to select to a Foundation year and the mindset was because I didn't want to be seen like a failure to peers and the judgement on having to resit.
In failing and suffering the answers are in there and I have realised that visiting the things you have failed at and doing a live "autopsy" and addressing why you failed, the baggage of the failures the insecurities and much more is the way to make a change.
Having being admitted on to the Foundation Year I had decided to commute 2hrs a day on a train to university in which I would wake up early just not to get caught in peak hours and then would study on the train. I would usually leave university in the evening and get back home very late. I spent most of this foundation year reminded of the failures and started addressing most of these during my journeys on the train and through out the period of this year.
I actually picked up further mathematics and a lot more complex stuff during my year. My end of year exams and projects led to me getting top grades across modules. The answer lies in repetition and not letting life hijack your brain. I found that I have to continuously go back into the things that I wouldn't want to do.
In hindsight the foundation year was a very insightful year and has given me a stepping stone in my studies. At university I do everything that's in Further Mathematics too and have progressed with A* in my term exams so I will address these past failures.
All of these failures allowed me to achieve success in multiple areas. To all those that are out there, continue to attack what sucks and figure out what needs to be done by constantly seeking the next step!

I've been waiting for an A Level Maths video from you for time. Currently studying it now and it's really fun, shame my other subjects aren't as great though.
Only problem is that my teacher is crap and was ill, so I've been teaching all the chapters myself using a textbook (taking notes etc.) and not leaving myself enough time to do questions. I got one of the best in my crappy Grade 6 class back in January from focusing on random exam questions over Christmas. I've slacked off since then.

Maths genie, crash maths, exam solutions all alongside physics and maths tutor are very good. Completely agree about the practice element. I’m on the new spec (currently doing my AS) and my teacher can’t believe how much harder they made them. Old spec they’d have people (from my very average school) score 698/700 marks!
Yess the old spec is much easier. I was doing past papers from before 2018 because 2018 and 2019 i had done too many times and the ones before were much easier. My as 2022 exam was horrendous i ended up getting 30/120 which is usually a U but because of the low grade boundaries it was a D luckily. I also got a high B in unit 2 mechanics and stats which averaged my as grade to a C. I need to get an A this year😭
