a lot of people are misinterpreting my statement as "we shouldn't give the money to someone who really needs it". the point is that a corporation shouldn't use these people's desperation for entertainment. no one should have to explain their grief and trauma because they need money, because these people turn around and tell each other that it isn't a big deal that they are grieving or that they can't have teeth. if you think they should argue for why they deserve the money, you should be more critical of why this corporation is getting free entertainment out of these people and isn't willing to help them AFTER they hear their story. this shouldn't exist in the first place, and if it does, I don't think this is the way they should play. if you disagree, then that's okay! that's what the discussion is about.
I don't see how playing a game makes more sense though once they're already there. Sure this situation shouldn't exist to begin with and the company is using this for profit, but if you accept that it has already happened, the method that makes the most sense is to determine based on need
@Isabella B grieving is a necessary step to healing. It’s also been very well documented that our emotional health ties greatly to our physical health so being able to grieve in peace without having to take on the everyday responsibilities she has (at her job, as a mother, a possibly a grandmother, etc.) will help her overall especially since she hasn’t had the chance to do that for OVER a year.
“Poor people” we got a guy stayin in a very nice retirement home, an engineer, lady on the far left went skydiving last year which is very expensive. Just cause they’re on the show doesn’t mean they’re poor.
I totally agree. I hate everything about this. This country does not take care of its citizens at all. I really feel for the woman who needs new teeth. I'm in my 30's and need extensive dental surgery, which costs $40-50k and isn't covered by my dental insurance. I definitely don't have that kind of money, nor will I anytime soon. Having dental issues can be excruciating. It's not just physically painful and difficult to eat or whatever; it's also a major source of emotional distress. Especially when it's a result of years of trauma and abuse. Nobody knows what's really going on in someone else's life or what they've had to deal with / are currently dealing with. Pitting these poor old people against each other and capitalizing on their pain is absolutely disgusting. It's actually painful to watch.
While I understand your point that people (especially in old age) shouldn’t have to do this for money. Y’all are talking like Cut is a government organization. They did willingly sign up for this and it’s more about the exposure and competition. I know it’s a messed up situation but it’s entertainment.
"Wait 3 years and get some new teeth." Wait 3 years for your kids to move out. Wait 3 years to be fully through the grievance process. Wait 3 years to have enough money for a new appliance. The, "wait 3 years," scenario applies to them all, that woman needs the money now for her teeth!
It’s crazy to me that some people don’t understand MENTAL HEALTH IS HEALTH. I lost my child and $1,000 would do ALOT for my healing. Teeth is a physical health issue - grief and losing a child is a mental health issue.
The wait three years thing was fucked up, and I would agree it’s equal in terms of “just as bad” I just think mental health is as important too. Not because you just “want some time away” - I’m referring to the woman who lost her kid. Middle lady was for sure evil.
@@heather_doestruecrime Sure, she should just eat applesauce and mashed potatos for three years so that someone can go take a vacation in the name of loss. Fuck, you can grieve without spending $1000.
Lady thinks it’s a ‘taxpayer blackhole’ (charity for homeless cause) cos she is one of *those* that will disagree with anything that does not directly benefit her. HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE HUMAN BEINGS! Imagine being elderly and having no empathy? She wanted money to buy APPLIANCES. Kudos to the engineer. He could retire comfortably, but he still has his empathy and wants a wonderful legacy.
"Things that don't directly help me in my daily life are automatically 'black holes'." This is the mindset that stops taxpayer funds from actually being used for the people who need it the most, because they are almost always the ones with the least representation. It really sucks seeing this mindset so often.
It's so dumb too because numerous studies have shown that taxpayers would SAVE money by housing the homeless than leaving them helpless on the street. She is literally factually INCORRECT. *NOT* funding such causes is a taxpayer blackhole. Funding them benefits all of us, our entire society.
@@kylasbitch dude, it’s up to the guy to convince her that it isn’t a black hole. the other two women could be weeks away from a hospital visit for mental breakdowns or attempts, which is why nick was saying we shouldn’t compare. we should be saying “what the fuck cut?” and leaving it at that. i feel awful for the woman who’s missing her teeth, she shouldn’t have to go on this game show in the first place.
@@rs-mt6kl i feel like you don't understand mental health breaks in that case. as @orphcnqueen is getting at, the people needing mental breaks could kill themselves tomorrow from the distress of LOSING A CHILD. in that case, the teeth are not life or death but a break is. here, it's obvious why we can't engage in this game as nick was saying and need to just say that they all *deserve* 1000.
@@joelover270 money doesn’t help mental health. even therapy can often not help mental health. these people aren’t even saying that’s what they’re using it for. they’re just basically saying they’re sad so they need money. the lady with no teeth will 100% be helped by the money, the mental health people it might help
@@joelover270 middle class peoples mental health isn’t above less fortunate peoples physical health. It doesn’t mean middle class peoples problems don’t matter, they just don’t need as much help financially. The woman who lost her son can probably afford therapy. The woman who lost her teeth can’t afford new dentures.
I can explain the door being kicked in and the person tryna sell something (6:40) because a similar scheme was used in my neighborhood as a child. It's a way to rob a house without spending much time checking if the owners are gone, and having a cover if they're not. Two people come to your door dressed as salespeople, one knocks. If theres no response, the other person goes around back and kicks in a door. If someone is home and answers the door first, they try to sell them magazine subscriptions or boxes of overpriced cookies. Something everyone will turn down. But this woman didn't want to deal with them, and didn't answer the door. Person #2 goes around back, kicks door in. Lady probably screamed (rightfully) and they realized the house was NOT empty and booked it. This literally happened to my friend's parents when I was a kid. Not hard to believe that's what went down.
I thought this was so obvious and when the guys didn’t get that, I was surprised. Im starting to think my neighborhood wasn’t a very “good” neighborhood growing up lol.
I think the homeless charity guy is right because she has the most immediate fundamental need. And money doesn’t heal trauma, I know it can buy treatments, but that takes time and usually if you’re in trauma treatment your fundamental needs are met. She doesn’t even have teeth or a steady livable income. That’s fundamental and urgent
money doesn't heal trauma but being in the everyday environment that inspired the trauma can, AND DOES, kill. black women have the lowest suicide rates and highest rates of dying by heart disease for this same reason; the disposability with which our mental health is treated. the mental sanctity of a mother who just lost her son is just as fundamental and urgent as teeth.
@@joelover270 and the mental sanctity of a mother who just lost her son isn’t going to be saved with a trip or $1000 is what I’m saying. Like I said, you can use it for trauma treatment, but trauma healing is a life long journey. Even if she got the $1000, her trauma isn’t going to heal any time soon. But the lady with the teeth needs them ASAP. I hear you, Black women are viewed as disposable, but I just don’t think that trauma trumps physical needs when it comes to discussing what is absolutely fundamental for survival.
@@tacticalmisandrist you don't hear me. it's not about "trauma trumping physical needs", it's about not placing trauma on a distinct continuum than physical concerns. you're insinuating that mental health is not absolutely fundamental for survival and it is. trauma manifests itself immediately and physically at times. i couldn't sleep or eat bc of my trauma. i very dangerously lost 20 lbs when i decided to keep working instead of taking time off, which could've been aided by $1000. instead, people like you make judgements of what will and won't help ailments you don't even understand.
My sister had to move all the money she had (received from family members throughout the years) into another account just to qualify for disability. She can’t work, there is no reliable or steady income of money, but apparently having a stagnant amount of money that wouldn’t even last a year means that she isn’t qualified for disability. Aside from checks, disability means less medical costs, something that people with chronic conditions are going to deal with till they die. It’s fucking ridiculous.
I hate the argument that people on disability are on it because they don't want to work. I fight my dad very often trying to explain that people on disability aren't just taking checks for fun. So frustrating that people think those in need are taking just to take.🙏
i get what chat was trying to say abt the old man. they were trying to say that the lady without teeth LITERALLY needs the money. she cant make money. having $1k wont make you feel better abt your son dying, even if you go to another place to travel. the lady without the bottom teeth LITERALLY NEEDS IT.
Literally the lady on the bottom left had gone scuba diving and even went parachuting in the LAST YEAR there's no way she NEEDED the $1000 when the lady on disability and $1000 a month absolutely got bullied out. My mother was on disability until she passed earlier this year and they dont cover ANYTHING. They wouldn't even cover her staying in a retirement home even though she was in and out constantly since no one in the family could take care of her. Disability is literal scraps and it really sucks how y'all blew her off until the other people were just in her face rude.
Yeah I was honestly put off by nick saying it makes him uncomfortable to talk about needs and comparing when it’s not even about that. This woman literally needs teeth and that’s EXACTLY what she came on the show for??? The other women wanted a vacation….😐Now, I get that they need space and that’s important, but this woman is literally going to struggle to EAT. She wants to use the money for something she needs and obviously is unable to do this on her own with 12k a month. And on top of that I just completely disliked them for bullying and dismissing the teeth lady.
Watching the three women gang up against the poor lady who needed teeth made me so sad. I understand people need space or whatever but this woman is already struggling and they just give her the sass like damn thats really messed up
@@marceldontcare8665 maybe they shouldve done some research on how to deal with their own baggage then, since money wont bring back your dead kid or rewind years you feel wasted. theres plenty of ways to deal with grief and stress. maybe they should wait 3 years to get over it and move on, and let the teeth lady afford to be able to fucking eat.
The only reason the teeth lady once we came to the personal, is because she believes that she deserves it now. The other ladies could have also named problems they have, but they decided not to for the sake of the game. like Nick said, you’re comparing the teeth lady’s physical and more ‘immediate’ problem with the other ladies’ more emotional and mental health problems signing them around and saying you’re not wrong. Plus one lady needed a fridge and the other needed a new door
@@yogi8722 Nick literally did the exact thing you're complaining about once the three couch ladies turned a bit rude towards the dentures woman in the video. Not saying that we should be comparing situations but it's inevitable.
What has she done to deserve it tho? Why doesn’t the other lady deserve it her kid died last year. Imagine having to bury your child. Y’all took the show to serious 😂
Don’t they all deserve it? Why is one person more worthy of financial security than another? I don’t think the current distribution of wealth and concept of this show is based on people deserving anything
@@marceldontcare8665 yes loosing your kid is awful and obviously worse than loosing teeth, the thing is getting money and going on a vacation will not get rid of the grief of loosing her child. It should not be “who ever went through the worst thing should get the money” it should be whoever’s life would be most improved by getting the money. Getting the money would directly and immediately improve her life immensely.
The lady without teeth said she makes $12000 a year. This 1K is quite literally 1/12 of what she gets in a year, and on top of that, she has an immediate need. To me, this is a clear answer. It's not saying that grief isn't "as bad," but grief can't be remedied by $1000 in the way this lady's teeth can be. EDIT: I didn’t intend for this to come off as hostile! Just contributing to the discussion. Let’s not take it too far.
DUDE exactly. i was so sad when she got voted out. the lady clearly needs help to improve her health. if she can get her teeth in three years then the woman in the middle can go on a vacation in three years.
Exactly!!! Disability checks are so far below the poverty line, it’s active oppression to those who rely on them. This poor woman was antagonized by the video because she was trying to advocate for the fact she knew she needed it the most. Like I know I’d be doing exactly what she is if I were in her shoes. When someone says “let’s play games” and you will go without medical care if you don’t get this money, of course you’re going to say “hey wait maybe that isn’t the best idea.” I also know that I personally really struggle with competitive games partly due to my disability.
Yeah I really don't understand why nick keeps saying this is a game. Like how? Why? This is money that could seriously help someone, I don't really understand what's "a game" about that. Kind of pissing me off
instead of rating grievances in terms of "whose life sucks the most" they need to compare whose life would be IMPROVED the most by the money, if they want to go that route at all. a child dying is worse than losing teeth however money cant truly help that issue but teeth can be bought ya know? The problem with that is still that it invalidates their issues which is super unfair, a struggle is a struggle and that's that. Therefore I agree the most fair way would be to leave motives aside and just play games.
I don't think it invalidates it ti say it can't be fixed with a small amount of money. If anything, it's the opposite. It's saying "your trauma is so huge, it can't be resolved as easily as these smaller problems can be"
Yeah but well for this they ain’t told them too play a game they choose what to do, like Mr.beast is a good example of playing games no motives, this although exploitative and disgusting, they want them to discuss like if it were more I would tell my sob story I don’t blame them
@@gracie20 wait but just because people are to emotional doesn’t mean we need to abandon rationality. If I was a parent and saw my child getting severely bullied by other kids and while I’m in this emotional disarray I hurt one of the aggressors of my child severely ending their life or renderings them severely disabled, you would he would of never internalize these critiques in his fiery rage in response to someone telling them to that they deserve to be punished or shouldn’t have done that. Sorry for the extreme hypothetical
While I understand it seems messed up to compare what others are going through and to be pragmatic in the situation. I don’t see it as unfair necessarily. I put myself in their shoes. They didn’t ask for this. However, they did choose to be a part of it. So while cruel, it’s the name of the game. And under those circumstances, I feel like I would feel better about choosing if it was decided based on who could benefit the most. Its almost more cruel to give it to someone who needs it less at that point. But you know It’s all a look at greed anyways.
Yikes... can't imagine having to go without teeth for 3 years... that was horrible for the middle lady to say "you'll get new teeth in 3 years then". Literally awful.
Dude 1000 dollars isn't even that much for the needs some of these ppl have. You can't buy new aplliances with 1k or travel for more than a couple days. But u could probably buy teeth
@@kennidie Having 6 kids is a personal choice, a fridge as you said isn't even that expensive if USED and the woman didn't even talk for the entire video so clearly she didn't care that much. A door is also not that expensive, and none of these women were on disability pay checks except the one who needs teeth. She makes 12.000 a year, can't get her dentures for another 3 years, and anyone who knows anything about dental care can tell you right now it is way more then 1000 dollars and even 1000 would already be 1/12th of what she makes in an entire YEAR. If you wanna have a trip, go save up and have one, just like everyone else. Also keep in mind 800 isn't enough for a trip at all, unless you go just for 1 day and drive back right away and barely even eat which is such a useless trip. The only one who truly needed the money right away was denture lady, who we know barely has any income, can't get it covered by insurance for another 3, and actually needs in for her health. It is absolutely ridiculous to act like games will make it fair, case it is just as dystopian to think the person who can stand on 1 leg the longest or wins rock paper scissors deserves the 1000 dollars, when you ALREADY KNOW someone in that group is in urgent need of something for their health. Teeth lady deserved it, and if not her, the men for charities. Keep in mind grief isn't magically remedied with a cheap trip, whilst a medical issues is. As someone who is both physically disabled and has a LOT of mental health issues, I would 100% give it to someone who has a current medical need that literally stands in the way of their wellbeing and cannot be insured, over something like a very cheap 1000 dollar trip that won't in anyway shape or form get rid of your grief, as that is something permanent. And time "for yourself" after CHOSING to have 6 kids vs. telling a woman in her face she can wait 3 years for new teeth? Not it. As others have said, the point should be figuring out who can get the most IMPROVEMENT in their situation with the money, and that 100% was denture lady. Luckily after this episode people got together and got her the teeth.
I agree. Mostly. But teeth lady is the only one we KNOW is on disability and the only one we know what her salary is. And I think she should get it for having to put up with those three ladies at the end in and of itself but the others could be struggling financially too. No, a trip does not magically fix grief, but having a little bit of money to pay rent or get groceries or gas and not having to worry about where it's coming from, thus letting yourself take the necessary time to process grief, DEFINITELY helps fix grief. When my mom died, I was only given one week of bereavement leave (which I was lucky to have at all). I had bills to pay so I came back to work wayyy earlier than I should have. Because I was not given time to properly sort through my emotions, the grieving process was much longer and harder than it would have been if I had, say, an extra $1,000 in the bank.
@@kaylagonzalez3465 the biggest thing tho, is that she makes 12,000 a year. Time off helps with grief, but it doesn’t get rid of the trauma. You’ll still be grieving years down the line regardless.

genuinely the "i have five kids" lady pissed me off so much, I was rooting against her the whole time. obviously her wants were still valid but they were not NEEDS. that woman literally did not have bottom teeth????
exactly, they needed to separate the people who wanted to support themselves or others' needs and their wants. The poor woman's teeth were messed up and the engineer was going to help the homeless with the money.
I love how the lady in the middle was like, "let's not do this by comparing traumas or hardships" and as soon as it was just the three of them, they immediately start mini trauma bonding about how they deserve it because of how much they went through. ??
I feel like nick missed the part where the lady said she gets only 12k a yr and than her dentures being eaten so like homegirl NEEDS money she can’t earn any cause of her disability so I feel like that REALLY compares to the two others who just wanted to get away from their kids and stuff And also where tf 1000 dollars gonna take you if you really want a nice vacation, 1000 would better pay for the teeth and left over to save up, and lastly this whole thing just sucks like it’s just pitting people against each other that need money like it’s just sad
Some of y’all are being FOUL about the man who was looking to start a new charity based off his own design just because he’s old. Wish they would’ve name dropped some of these charities
And like that’s the best time to start a charity! He’s probably retired and can devote his time to it. He could just do nothing and no one would blame him, but instead he’s devoting his time and money to help those in need. He’s fantastic ❤️

I Imagine they make loads of money so it probably wouldn’t hurt them to pay them like 10$. It really is dystopian and just bad
This video is great but I do disagree fundamentally with the idea that you can’t measure people’s needs. If you have a sandwich and you’re standing in front of someone who’s starving and someone who’s hungry, you’re going to give that sandwich to the starving person so they can survive. That doesn’t discount the fact that the hungry person also needs to eat but in a broken system where you have one sandwich, that sandwich needs to be given to the person who needs it the most. The woman who needs teeth is living on $12,000 a year. She needs teeth to comfortably eat and there’s no way she can take from that amount that’s far below the poverty line to invest in something that should be a fundamental medical accessibility. She’s also disabled. I totally get that the other women have their own problems but they do not compare when it comes to how huge $1,000 is for someone who makes only that in a month. Disability is a horrifying system that strips people on it of any chance of getting additional money. People on disability frequently become homeless on it because the checks are so detrimentally low. I totally respect the sentiment that everyone has their own struggles but when it comes to harm reduction and immediate action, the person who has the most urgent needs should always be the person who’s prioritized.
Completely agree and also want to point out that one issue is fundamentally more dehumanizing than the other. Bc as you said, disability as a system strips down the very human rights of people like food, shelter, and healthcare, meanwhile there's not a person in the world that would twist their mouth to say that losing a child isn't traumatic and horrible. This woman doesnt just need control over her teeth, its her healthcare and her humanity as a person who is abused by systems and people that do not want to sympathize with her.
@@MystiqMiu Yes!!! That’s such a good point! Disabled people are so often seen as lazy or like they’re already getting assistance from the government and don’t need more but the government doesn’t do its job. Losing a child is seen as an inherent trauma whereas disability is something you have to fight for to be recognized as struggling. Thank you so much for pointing that out!
I 100% agree. I think the girl with teeth needed it the most, the money is literally 1/12 of her salary she gets in a year. The girl with the son passing obviously had to go through a lot and deserves her mental break, but you have to think about who the specific amount money would benefit the most. 1k won’t necessarily help you grieve, it can help you have a break which can support your grieving process/make it easier , but at the end of the day, grieving isn’t something that happens in one trip. Whereas the lady missing the teeth could put that money into something that is sure to help her. I have no clue if that made sense, but really would’ve made sense to give it too the person with the lowest salary, who would get a huge benefit from the money.
agreed. we literally HAVE to measure needs in this cursed country in order to help those who need it most, that is social welfare policy baby! needs assessments, cutoffs, and budget limits for programs exist.
Dudes- one lady need teeth and lives off disability. If you need time to grieve then tell your family that you need time to grieve you don’t have to go to the Yucatán to do so. This lady need teeth and is living off 12,000 a year. He’s right
One of the few times i'm not fully on board, nick. To Teeth lady 1000 dollars was crucial. She lives off 12K a year, this might be the only opportunity EVER for her to get enough money for dentures.
i understand what nick is getting at with not comparing people's needs and i do agree that this show is fucked up for pitting people against each other for that sole purpose. but i do think in a situation like this, maslow's hierarchy can be looked at when thinking about who the money should be given to. not having teeth means not being able to eat, which is a fundamental part of human life and therefore a base-level need according to this hierarchy. i'm not saying that dealing with grief and mental health isn't important, but i feel like being confident in the fact that you can eat a meal every day is the most immediate need and therefore that should be met first. i just thought it was really rude how they dismissed this, especially after hearing that she only makes $12k a year. ://
Respectfully to grey hair lady, 1k isn't going to fix your need to grieve. If you can't tell the ppl in your life that you helped raise that you as an adult woman need time to yourself then it's not magically happening with a little bit of money. You'll go to AZ and come back sad af with the same problems
The first 3/4ths of this made me super concerned about nicks bad takes. Like...not having teeth isn't a joke. Changes whether you can eat, what you can eat, can affect your heart health, affects your appearance and self esteem...ect.
I think he was just overly careful about not devaluing psychological needs to the point where he was going too far the other way. he just didn't want to imply that mental needs aren't as important as physical needs, but there's more nuance than that
yeah no-chew diets are a nightmare, i was only on one for a few weeks bc of surgery and it gave me major stomach issues, i was always starving, and bc of a lack of textures and recipe choices i became super unmotivated to eat. not to mention that you can lose weight and it’s very hard to meet ur fibre needs. eating like that for years would hugely fuck up ur mental health
@@bereisgreat You could easily make that point without devaluing a disabled woman's needs. Especially when that need will also affect your mental health..
Fr I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with one of his takes so hard. Obviously mental health is extremely important (got anxiety and depression I know how shit it is, and I just lost my grandfather who was my father figure last week) but taking a trip will not make the pain go away. Giving the 1k to the trip lady is just a momentary distraction of the pain she’s going through. But teeth? Cmon Nick that’s something WE ALL NEED! That old fundraiser dude was completely right in mentioning that the teeth lady needs it more than everyone else. Also, are we just gonna ignore the fact trip lady said she went skydiving last year? It seems to me that she’d have enough to cover the trip on her own. Unlike teeth lady who only lives off 12K A YEAR, THAT IS NOTHING! 1k for her is literally 1/12th of what she makes a year. Also find it sus that teeth lady was the only one to state her salary and that she’s on disability. I have a feeling the others make much more than her and kept that fact to themselves so they’d be more likely to get the money. This doesn’t apply to the charity guys ofc, the, and teeth lady were the only ones I was rooting for.
there was a mention of talking about personal problems being dystopian, but isn't it just as dystopian to dole out what is, for some people, a life-changing amount of money just based on who can stand on one foot the longest? sure, it makes for a more "fun" video, but i don't see how it's any better than what the teeth lady was proposing. i agree with what the shelter guy said about the teeth. not having teeth isn't worse than grieving a loved one, but $1,000 is literally the only way this woman can get new teeth--- she disabled and lives on $12,000 a year. $1,000 can help with a person's grieving process, but it isn't the thing that makes or breaks someone's recovery. on the other hand, if you are living in poverty and you need new teeth, $1,000 *is* make or break.
Thank you!!! Like why is talking about their lives and problems so offensive to people? Some people have had it worse and might deserve more help than others. Some people are privileged and don't need as much help. Neither of those are weird ideas, but add cameras and apparently you can't compare anything without it being evil. Huh?
Thank you! I kept trying to write a comment regarding this and I couldn’t figure out how to word it. While the idea of “comparing each other’s trauma & needs” is kind of fucked but that’s exactly what nonprofits and even the government has to do daily because there is only a finite amount of funding and resources that can be delegated and the only way to decide who to help is by determining multiple factors like 1) how much does it affect daily life, and does it diminish quality of life/ability to survive (id say being able to properly eat and talk is a big deal) 2) how immediate is the need I.e. what would happen over the next year if they didn’t get the money? 3) Are there other alternatives that would be more beneficial ways to solve the issue besides just giving them money for it. 4) what is the economic status of the individual when compared to others who are also being considered? How likely is it for her to be able to get the opportunity to solve this issue on her own by saving her own money+how long would that likely take in comparison to the others? 5) how much of a GUARANTEED impact would this have on their daily life? Yes, vacations and mental health breaks are absolutely necessary and valuable but is that person who is using that money to go out of town going to be doing therapy while gone? Can you guarantee that her doing that will improve the amount of grief she feels afterwards? A charity needs to determine what is the most valuable outcome for each dollar spent and unfortunately that means comparing how bad people have it, it’s literally just the consequences of capitalism like mr. beard says
I don't think the video showcased power dynamics but rather how people act in the face of scarcity. comprimising morality, fighting, building groups and not only turning on the ones outside, but also within this group. i hated how they had to fight over $1000 instead of just receiving that amount individually from the corporation that made the video.
The videos would also be a lot more enjoyable to watch if they always surprised them at the end by giving them $1000 each. It would always be interesting to watch their reaction to that.
What immoral action did they really do. People keep throwing around that word, but do anybody have an understand about what morality is, it’s simply just as system. And unless your an Christian apologist or evangelical then you praub believe that your mortality should be fundamentally self centred, to create best outcome for the people around you and yourself.
Haven’t started this video yet but I have seen the video in the video. I think about the lady who wanted the money because she’s raised kids all her life acting like she needs it more than the lady who needs teeth and I wonder what kind of person can look directly at someone with a fixable need and say “No, I deserve money because I’ve made a series of misguided decisions, (presumably) well into my adulthood.”
The way they were trying to keep it fun/joked around when going “Jennifer, Jennifer” “byeee Jennifer” as if they weren’t being so incredibly disrespectful and non understanding when it comes to her problem 😀😀
PISSED ME OFF SOOOO MUCH it was like those kids in middle school that wouldn't be "mean" to you but they would jokingly say the most rude and disrespectful stuff ever. so immature from those grown women to be acting like that
pretty sure the engineer was trying to get out when he guessed 42. even before that round's game started he was trying to get someone else to win (teeth lady). he looked pretty pleased when it was him who got out, and also 42 is a reference to the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. he also left with smile saying 'there you go, now you guys have to figure it out.'
i love you boys, and maybe y'all change your tune towards the end (i'm only halfway through the vid) but rooting for the obnoxious lady on the bench ain't it
i totally get where nick is coming from by not wanting to undermine mental health, but the thing is that you must prioritize physiological needs before psychological ones. it’s literally maslow’s hierarchy of needs. by comparing the issues as they did, it’s not a matter of invalidating mental health, but the attempt to see who truly does need the money more. and yes the whole “exploiting people’s issues for entertainment” thing is weird overall, but that was not the main argument in the video. either way, a lot of people already agree that it’s bad, but that clearly doesn’t stop people from consuming the content
u agree with you i like the example of if two women come into the ER at the same time but one has been shot and the other is threatening suicide who do you think the doctors are going to treat first! the woman who been shot ofc both woman are initialed to treatment but you can see who would benefit more in the moment .
@@loganwasmydog i agree with the idea that the lady needs her teeth but i do not agree with the example you used for reasoning because that is not how that situation works. if both of those people came into the er they would both be automatically marked as red flags and get **immediate** treatment, at the very least just enough to stabilize both of them to make sure they don’t die. the situation you created and the one in the video aren’t comparable. both of the people in your situation are in immediate life ending danger. i also disagree with maslow’s hierarchy of needs (as do many other doctors and philosophers) because along with there 1) being no evidence that they’re is any type of hierarchy to exist at all for human needs and 2) maslows theory does not acknowledge differences between individualist and collective culture; it also does not acknowledge many things affect the importance of certain needs over others. physiological things are not always more important then mental ones, and as a person who is both severely mentally and physically disabled i will not back down on that idea. if i were to wander into a hospital during an episode of my psychosis and with a broken arm stabilizing me to a point where i am at least calm would be the first objective over my arm because my mental health is the thing causing the most immediate threat to me and others. you cannot, and i mean CANNOT, objectively always prioritize physical needs over mental ones. in this case yes! the lady needs her god damn teeth! comparatively her needs are the most immediate things that need to be dealt with. but that is **not** because they are physical.
@@punkpuppyluv i respect your opinion and i case you did not know the lady’s granddaughter made a go fund me and the lady got her teeth :) i hope you have a good day! thanks for not being rude because u have another opinion
@@loganwasmydog that does NOT work because someone who is seriously suicidal could literally kill themselves at any moment. That's like saying a person who was recently stabbed is always more important than a person with a knife directly on their throat and that person should be ignored because the knife hasn't cut through their neck yet? That's the actual reason people discount suicidal depression...a person can end their life in seconds, a person can die of a gunshot wound slowly, it depends on where they were shot, so that's a bad example but it only takes a second to die and your implication that suicidal ppl are just full of empty threats is also gross. :/
Why couldn’t the blue sweater lady just get a mini fridge for the time being? I got mine free on Facebook marketplace. Then her and her family can pool money together over time to get a decent sized fridge
She didn't even say whether or not she NEEDED a new fridge or that her old one wasn't working. She said she wanted to used it as a down payment on a set of new appliances. So she could literally just want to upgrade her appliances. But told the lady making $12,000 a year, that there is a way for her to get new teeth--IN THREE YEARS. Lol
I'm not sure I'm with you on this one Nick. Of course, everyone has different trauma's and problems, but some problems are always going to be more pressing then others. It's easy to judge these people for trying to compare trauma, but it seems like some of them are in a position where this money doesn't come easily so they have to take every opportunity they have to get what they need, even if it means sacrificing some of their dignity. You need your bottom teeth. Without them, you can't chew properly, and are basically constricted to an almost completely liquid diet. It's a more urgent issue than needing some time away from family. Everyone's struggles are valid, but it's important to know how to prioritize more urgent matters. The real villains here are The Cut, who are basically forcing people in need to air out their sob story for entertainment value instead of just giving them the money. The Cut profits off of these peoples' humiliation and tries to pretend like the people they cast are worse because they are arguing for something they need to get by.
Yea but fuck those of us on disability who can’t afford basic things right? Someone who can already afford to go skydiving obviously needs it just as much.
The women who needed a vacation from life are understandable but they absolutely could have made connections to do so without spending much money, the amount of people with disability that go through absolute bullshit isn’t only physically exhausting but mentally as well. Of course no one should be suffering but unfortunately thats not how the world works at this time, some people need things more than others 🤷.
Not being able to enjoy you’re favourite foods. Is a pain within itself. Like it’s how would you relax if you can’t even eat what you want. That would be dreadful.
@@briansupermega5692 I also think saying the lady without teeth deserves the money isn't necessarily an attack towards the needs of the other women, the needs of the lady without teeth can only be met with money, while mental health and grieving can be dealt with in many different ways, that doesn't make it any less important or valid, for them a solution is simply more accessible without money. Overall this shouldn't be a thing I don't like the idea of making poor people argue over crumbs to create profit for a company that makes thousands of dollars a video, and if I were to pic a way to go about this it'd be random games because specific trauma cannot be measured in an objective way and it's counterproductive, it makes it more unfair than the idea itself already is.
@@briansupermega5692 wellp m8 most people's favorite food isn't fkn soup all day every day, you really are minimizing it. Plus she said her favorite foods are nuts. Elderly people need nuts and fibers and she can't get all her nutrients as easily. I ask you if you'd really like to eat soup 3x day every day for the next 100 days?
It is honestly really sad that there are so many people are desperate for $1000. I'm lucky enough now to be in a position where $1000 would be nice, but not life-changing. But there is something seriously wrong with our society when these people are so desperate for $1000, and we have billionaires sending themselves into space for vanity projects.
nick i truly love you and your content but, as several people have said, the woman who is missing her bottom row of teeth has a need that can benefit the most from and be solved the quickest by winning 1k. emotional needs are important, as well as the time and space one needs to grieve, but this woman literally will struggle to eat until she gets a new set of teeth. a good set of dentures can cost from $1,000-$15,000 per arch-- she is disabled and the minimum amount for one row of teeth is what she makes in a month. the average monthly expenses in america per month is over 5k, just slightly below half of what she makes per year. shes already living a more impoverished life, while disabled, and now she will struggle with the basic human need to eat. she may have damaged her dentures through an act of carelessness but that carelessness does not deprive her of the right to be able to eat and chew food. again, i understand that grief is important and that emotional needs are important-- one of my best friends passed earlier this year--, but please take a step back reflect on this and address it if you can. thank you, im really sorry if my comment was harsh, but thank you for reading it if you did. look forward to seeing more content from you, genuinely editing this to note that i think the source video is deplorable for making this and not even compensating anyone for making them air their grievances + struggles out publicly, i dont think anyone here or anyone mentioning the teeth thing disagrees with that
nicks criticism is that truama and good deeds shouldn't be ranked. that this game is bad and playing along only invalidates peoples struggles and that they should instead just play rock paper scissors or something. all playing along with these games does is cause arguments over things we can't really give an answer to and it's best just not to play along with them
@@milosmittens1391 i understand that and i agree with that, at no point do i disagree with the fact that the premise of this show is horrible and that it should not exist. but i think most of the people in the comments are focusing on the fact that not having teeth is a fundamental need and not a trauma, and that nick acts dismissively towards that for a large portion of the video.
@@goodnightgoodnightgoodnight he only really said he thought someone grieving could maybe use it more but he didn't really stick to that statement. he later said who knows how much someone grieving would need and that we shouldnt try to argue that. he was never dismissive of any of their issues
@@milosmittens1391 iirc he compared their struggles to someone having a draft in their house, when hers is a physiological need, and at another point says that some people have went through trauma and that its worse. i hope im not coming off as dismissive, i really agree that people who suffer loss need time and space to grieve, but it is not on the same scale as a biological requirement people need to be able to survive. sorry if i sound argumentative, im really not trying to be, i just think some things could have been worded better or more carefully
Dude, nick had such a cold take on this. Even with his pinned comment addendum. A vacation won't fix grief, and not having the vacation won't worsen the grief. A normal person with any sense can understand that the weight of experiences exists on a spectrum. The longer she goes without teeth the worse her dental condition will get. Doors can be temporarily patched. Refrigerators can be financed, you literally can get a fridge and pay on it monthly. It really isn't that complex of a debate.
47:04 when it really comes to money people don’t give a single fuck huh :|.. dentures aren’t even great to live with either, they ware out and get old and there are so many other factors that make them shitty to live with. I hope she can get the support she needs and is doing alright now :( this was so upsetting to watch.
Nick "there's no ranking system for their grievances" The charity dude is basically talking about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. Which asserts that physiological needs are most important...
Why though? What if gaining that money was the breaking point for the middle woman in her very clear depression....what if after she lost she went and shot herself. What makes physiological needs instantly more important? That being said I do agree the teeth lady deserved it the most in such a criteria...just wondering what makes that hierarchy valid and doesn't make it a system that innvalidates the mentsl issues that me and others are experiencing
@@Enel97 I mean the hierarchy of needs is the framework for a lot of what we understand about sociology. It's not infallible, but it's widely accepted as a way of determining which needs are most fundamental.
@@Enel97 If a woman tempting suicide and having a mental breakdown and a woman who had just been critically shot enter a hospital at the same time, who do you think would be seen first? Even 'how' do you think they'd be seen? They're both going through a crisis, but one woman is Actively Dying, and the other one can at least be sat down and spoken to by nurses instead of a doctor who can do surgery for the shot woman. It's not morally right to assume you can't'rank' pain. There are absolutely different types of urgencies and different time periods for the effective treatment of these urgencies. No one's invalidating the woman with low mental health and Im so glad people are standing up for mental health this much bc no one would even acknowledge it just years ago. But her mental health journey is fundamentally long and endless and the woman with the dental issue has a more rectifiable need.
I used to agree with you until I looked more into Maslow's hierarchy of needs It has a lot of criticisms about not being intersectional as well as ableist.... It's a fallacious ranking system without evidence. It LOOKS like it could solve problems which makes it appealing, but where would "not dealing with systemic racism" fall in the pyramid? What about coping with grief and psychological distress due to trauma? Were the hierarchy truly accurate to humanity, no one would be suicidal if they had the bottom tier filled. Obviously that's not the case. A child being abused by their parents would have the biological and physical tier satisfied, yet would still be in hell.
@@MystiqMiu I honestly hate that comparison so much. A person attempting suicide whilst having a mental breakdown is a life threatening emergency too. Also a typical ER/hospital will immediately check in anyone who is in life threatening danger first, so both would be seen before anyone else there who is just there for a flu for example.
teeth are a huge deal nick. if you're missing teeth that can fuck up your jaw forever. I don't appreciate being compared to ben shapiro for believing she needs the money more than anyone else on this show.
Yeah I definitely disagree with Nick’s view on that. Although I’ve never lost a child (or had any kids in general) and couldn’t begin to fathom the emotional pain from it, going on a short vacation will not make that trauma go away. The most it will be is a momentary distraction but as soon as she returns back to Seattle those wounds will reopen. I just lost my grandfather last week (who was my father figure, I lived with him until his passing and he was there for me more than my bio dad has ever been.) As I’ve said, I know it isn’t the same as losing a child, but as someone who is grieving, taking a trip will not replace the hole in your heart from a loved one passing.
The last 3 women just remind me of high school girls. Had nothing in common and just cliqued together and bullied one of the nicest ladies there. I really wanted Jennifer to win (and NOT just because we share the same name :]). My dad has bad genetics and unfortunately a lot of his teeth were fucked up by the time he was in his twenties no matter how well he took care of them. In his thirties he got dentures and I cannot tell you how much of a positive impact it made on him to be able to smile and not be embarrassed, or to be able to eat without pain.
She chose to have 6 kids, she only said she didn't want to talk about it because she didn't have anything bad other than just having 6 kids, I think they should've voted how to play it, but I also think they should've done it by who needs it the most because when you are that old you won't be able to make money other than social security, so she would just be stuck without bottom teeth for the next three years greatly reducing her variety of food aswell as making it just way harder to eat in general, also the door thing would be much harder to deal with for general comfort aswell, also the lady in the middle is a really annoying bully
@@kenzij when I had my wisdom teeth removed I couldn't use my mollers for like 6 weeks and I feel like although it's incredibly annoying to deal with, I was still able to eat some stuff using the front corners of my mouth, but with the bottom row missing I don't see how you could eat anything that wasn't a soup or paste without trouble or irritation
@@captainsnugleup Fair. And that's the main reason I mentioned the difference. Though I did just think of another point. Babies with only one or two teeth manage to slobber and gum their way through some pretty hard food, so some part of our brains already know how to do it.
if they played a game which was based on luck this might had turned out right,,, the middle lady's idea was good but the lady with disability deserved it more because it would have bought a significant change in her daily life which is a big thing
The groupthink is real on those three figuring out they all will prosper to the next seafood game if they bully teeth lady Also didn’t that one woman just say she wants “new applicances” like she’s not living without a fridge she just wants new stuff. If her fridge is broke she can literally ask her landlord unless she owns her house… and in that case bye
Maybe bc this hits really close to home but I have teeth issues and mental health issues and my teeth issues DIRECTLY impacts my mental health and overall physical health. Also, if you are only getting 12k per year in Seattle, a thousand dollars is pretty life changing money. I think you’re a good dude nick, but maybe have a hard time relating bc you haven’t experienced the issues that came with living with poverty (I’m mentally ill and have been homeless and also have chronic illness) so it’s a little difficult to see these issues discredited. I absolutely agree that ppl fighting for 1k is dystopian and in America something like teeth shouldnt be something that ppl have to essentially go without but ppl make so many assumptions about teeth, it’s a HUGE class barrier and a lot of stigma goes into it like haha those stupid toothless hillbillies etc. Idk again I love your videos but this just left a bad taste in my mouth like it came across as being pretty outta touch dude.
I think the lady with the teeth deserves the money the most because $1000 would literally get her the thing she wants. Everything else that was asked for, except for maybe the lady who wanted her door replaced, couldn't be achieved with the $1000. I think her life would be improved the most because of that $1000 compared to the others.
The homeless charity guy was literally right tho... It's obviously immoral that they even have to be in a situation like this, but they're already here, and one woman literally does not have the money for a row of bottom teeth like wtf
Personally, I don't really like how Nick or his friends said that it was wrong or "dystopian" to discuss personal issues when trying to decide who would get the money. Saying someone has a "greater need" in my mind is saying someone has a more urgent need. It's the same reason that people that come to emergency rooms with heart attacks or serious bleeding wounds will get seen before people that come in with the flu. Doctors and nurses don't do that because they think that the person with the flu doesn't deserve any help or is less important than other people but rather because they do not posses as urgent of a need as the other people. Where the potentially "dystopian" part could come in (the contestants attacking each other and trying to invalidate one another's problems) seems to be entirely the fault of the format of the show as well as the contestants themselves. It is perfectly possible for people to be able to have mature conversations about why they have a need and how the money could help to meet that need, but because of the voting-off format and how a lot of people come on with a very selfish and aggressive mindset, people end up snapping at one another. I think that the show would be really cool if they put the people in a half-circle or something and had a moderator behind the camera that could facilitate conversation and everyone could present their reasons in a calm way and rather than vote people off, everyone just does one big vote on who should get the money. I'd watch that for sure. I never watch this stuff on my own cos it pisses me off.
for sure agree, but that wouldn't be as "entertaining" as watching people argue over each other. it would also be easy for them to just give everyone 1k based on how popular the channel is, but they'd also never do that :/
@@kenadielise7780 I know, I just used that as an example since I think the concepts are similar and at the point where Nick talked about this, the chat was discussing medical issues versus trauma, so I think it is still a bit relevant. I guess a more practical example would be in a hypothetical situation where two best friends asked for help at the same time: one just had their car break down on their way to a job interview and the other friend is dealing with a bad cold and wants someone to take care of them. I personally would make sure to go help out the friend with the broken down-car first because their need is the most immediate in my head. It doesn't mean I don't care about my other friend or that I don't want to help that other friend or even that I believe them being sick is less important than the broken down car. I simply believe that my friend with the broken-down car has the most immediate need. I think this type of prioritizing happens in everyday life, including how people prioritize their own needs in relation with the needs of others and it's hardly dystopian.
@@MystiqMiu He made a pinned comment explaining his thoughts a bit better I think. Seems he had more of an issue with doing such a thing in this context and not so much that sometimes some needs should be put before others.
Imo 8 was actually a genius guess for that number guessing game. The only rule was "farthest guess from my # loses", so everyone's solely playing to not lose rather than to win. Getting between 2 other peoples' guesses ensures that you're never gonna be the farthest away, so you never lose (until it's final 2, that is).
Nah, sorry. The pinned comment about how "the corporation should be willing to help them afterwards and shouldn't be using grief as entertainment!" is just massive backpeddaling on Nick's part. That wasn't the sentiment he was expressing in the video. He was arguing against the fallacy of relative privation, which is fair and valid. But ALSO, when it comes to tangible money and it being used to solve potential problems, it isn't about "whose situation is worse" or "whose life sucks the most," its about the way the money specifically can contribute to negating the issue at hand. Which is why myself (and many others) disagreed with the way Nick was insisting that their logical perspective was "unfair," because, no....it really isn't. Claiming otherwise comes from a huge position of privilege. Also, creating ENTERTAINING UA-cam videos using this content and also profiting off it just makes Nick a hypocrite if his whole point is about how unethical it is. Unless he's willing to offer financial compensation to the people in the video, why perpetuate the problem by creating reaction content? You could argue that he provided commentary addressing the ethical issues, but when it comes down to it- this video was created for entertainment and 99% of the "commentary" is humorous in nature and had *nothing* to do with addressing the ethical implications of having potentially disenfranchised people groveling for money. And even his attempt to address it AFTERWARDS in the comment section was half-assed. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Nick or this video is bad in anyway. I just....definitely disagree that he made the point he claimed he tried to. Lmao
its insane how they didn't give the money to the lady who needed teeth and it genuinely made me furious because my mom was in the same position and it's inexplicably hard to live that way. you can't eat anything unless it's extremely soft and start avoiding social interaction because people give you weird looks or say mean things. i've seen my mom suffer and how her health went even more downhill as a result of not being able to eat much. maybe i'm being too emotional but something as essential as that being completely ignored is frustrating. i hope that lady is doing fine. and i hope no one has to go through any of this.
Im usually a huge fan of Nick but I genuinely couldn’t finish this video after watching him get upset that it wouldn’t be as fun if they triaged who needed the money most. The woman needing dentures is literally missing a piece of her body and cannot access the care she needs because she doesn’t have the money. Im disabled too, I know what it’s like to have your body stop working the way it’s supposed too. It’s beyond devastating. The fact that anyone could watch this and not recognize that her need for medical attention far out passes any other need shown here, much less suggest that the outcome should be left up to chance, is really upsetting to me and makes me realize how little people actually understand about the disabled experience.
i just don't really get why what he said is so bad is considering isn't that how the rest of that channels video series is done largely? by doing it as a game? shouldn't we be blaming the channel themselves (cut or jubilee whichever it is i get them mixed up) since they're the ones who pitch this whole video idea as a game? i agree it should be whoever actually needs it the most but when these videos on the channel already were set up as a game i don't get how what nick said is bad, that's exactly how they set these videos up from the start. so isn't it more on the channel for doing this type of thing in the episodes, openly pitching it with the option to play it like a game instead of whoever actually needs it the most instead of just flat out doing it only for whoever needs it the most? i haven't seen Every episode but that's how i view it from what i have seen, it at its core being all whoever runs the channels fault/the people who make the decisions on how to run the whole thing. i guess i myself just put more blame on them for even setting it up like this in the first place. not trying to be rude here btw!
maslow's hierarchy of needs. yes this type of exploitative content shouldnt exist, but now that it does and that it is being reacted to, its gotta be acknowledged. saying someone with a physical problem should be put first before someone with a mental problem, isnt diminishing mental health or comparing sufferings. its comparing needs. both are rough, one is more urgent. maslow puts our physiological need (to eat, to drink water, to be warm, to sleep) as our most basic needs, before security, friendships and mental health, because deprived of those, we die. the format of the video is fucked up and exploitative, but it is not immoral for the people in it to discuss and make a case for why they should get the money - all of them can do something valuable with the money, but no, not all of them are in the same positions when being judged for how effective and needed the money would be
i dont live in the us so i dont know how much shit like dentures or plane tickets cost but id assume the first one is probably cheaper, and it IS something that can only be solved by that money. and with 12k a year, it is not that feasible. again, eating is a physiological need for our body to be able to function. she wouldnt starve, but surely restricting a diet to only juices, soups and pastes would reduce the range of sources of energy and proper nutrients. and adding to that, we're talking about the function of an old, disabled body. it can be debated if id be morally correct to say her suffering is greater than the others, but thats not the point its being made, but rather, that her need is more urgent than the others.
@@marsantos536 tbh dentures probably cost more than plane tickets in the US….. getting medicine and basic treatments and yk stuff to add to our wellbeing costs an arm and a leg in the States 😬 coming from someone that does live in the US lol, and if I’m wrong they probably cost the same. This also does depend on your insurance as well 🙃 this is still fucked up lol
I made it 9min in and had to quit. It's not you guys, it's the whole premise of this "game" and how I was anticipating people fighting over this sum under these conditions - seniors, especially. I just... couldn't, sorry. WTF is wrong with society that this is how we respond to older people's problems - with a competitive game over resources for entertainment viewing? Jesus.
That’s my biggest problem with it too. Sure, play a game but actually do something about the issues the participants are experiencing when they’re done or do commentary/use it as an opportunity to educate people about the current state of the world. I feel like the productions must be at least a little self aware of how messed up they are and I don’t understand how they can sleep at night knowing they made them do free labor (except for the ones who win) while probably being able to pay and compensate the participants
I'm a social worker. I have to make decisions like this all the time-Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. “Space” is a psychological need. Teeth are a biological need. Biological needs win every time. Give that lady her teeth.
comparing the material benefits each person would gain from the money is not the same as comparing how shitty their lives are. i’m sorry but no amount of trauma or grief is going to make a vacation more meaningfully beneficial to someone’s life than being able to eat properly. it’s not about how bad they have it, it’s about which thing is more necessary to a person’s life and immediate wellbeing. also, the mention of living on disability is not just using trauma to affect people’s voting because it explains why she cannot get the money elsewhere; it’s a necessary part of her explanation and she doesn’t even talk about how difficult it makes her life so i don’t even know how it might be viewed otherwise. i genuinely hate these videos and think it’s disgusting that a corporation is making more money by exploiting these people (mostly) for free than they’re even giving out for capitalizing off desperation and need, but if they’re going to be made anyways, that is the best way to go about it, no downplaying or even discussing trauma or grief necessary.
lool to be fair to the dude who voted himself off, if you watched celebrity gameshows usually its celebrities competing in these games for money to their charity of choice so maybe he thought it was something like that
The woman who needs new bottom teeth shouldn't have to go on a game show of sorts for teeth 😭 that's so depressing, I saw someone in the comments saying she did get them eventually. So I'm glad for that
I stood up to my abuser when I was a child. I didn’t care about the repercussions. I wanted him to know what I thought of him. That’s probably the most daring thing I’ve done.
The lady who wanted to grieve had enough time to take a day off by herself to go to that place...Clearly doesn't need $1k to get space if she can afford to go to a place for a day and potentially NOT get $1k. Lmao. The first four people removed weren't nearly as petty as the last three. Teeth lady and the two charity guys had actual reasons lol. Maybe fridge lady too. Actually, the lady missing a BACK DOOR also actually needs money. She has a wide open house! The two woman looking for space were just selfish, even if one of them was grieving.
fridge lady is obv pretty well-off since she went skydiving n shit. she didnt even say her fridge was broken or anything, just that she wants a new one. def didnt deserve to stay over teeth lady
“and so the only way i think it’s right to do it is to play little childhood games” -nick this sounds like some south korean netflix show i watched once, don’t remember what it’s called, something about squids i think
The problem is that all of them want to vote off the person who seems most obviously needy, because they don't want to have to go up against that person. They had to get rid of teeth lady because they didn't want to be in a position where they would have to weigh their needs against hers, so the ones whose motives sound the "best" find themselves ganged up against by the ones who fear not getting what *they* need.
isn't 8 a good choice? If the number is much larger, there's someone who chose 7 that will get eliminated. If it's smaller, someone else chose 9 so they'd be eliminated. If the number IS 8... well, yay! You can't lose by choosing 8... right?
nick, i love you but i completely do not agree with what you were saying throughout. that lady literally makes what you probably make for posting 1 video. $12k a YEAR is absolutely criminal. she’s disabled and doesn’t have teeth. teeth. she cannot pay for that, that’s half of what she’ll get for a single month, not accounting rent, food, other bills etc. i really enjoy your content and i hope this doesn’t come off rude, but i do think you should take a step back sometimes and realize how lucky you are
i think he knows how lucky he is he was just saying weighing personal problems is getting you no where. that's why he suggested the games to make it fair.
@@kennidie I think we have to accept the fact that this game is not fair. playing random games (that have to be thought out cause there's inherent bias in the number guessing game and many others) isn't really a solution. if the question is "who deserves it more?", there may not be a clear 1 choice but there's definitely gonna be a difference between the people who need it less and the people who need it more. if there's a truly random way to choose who gets the money and a person who needs it less wins, was it truly a fair outcome? then that's not the game that they're playing, then it's more "one of these people receives money with no other context at all"
didnt come off as rude. came off as idiotic, stupid , unnecessary . you people try so hard to be offended by something and its so fuckin lame , he obviously didn't mean anything negative
That lady in the middle had the least reason for the money but was the most vocal the entire time. Like you can go to park for free if you need space so much
This woman NEEDS TEETH. Money can’t just fix trauma, especially not 1000. And she wasn’t going to buy treatment, she said she was going to just be on her own. Her grieving has nothing to do with the money. THIS WOMAN CANT EAT, SHES MISSING A FKN BODY PART AND IS ONLY MAKING 12K A YEAR, dude. Edit// and it’s not about which is worse, we shouldn’t be comparing traumas, but it is about which the money can help the most. Say you have someone who’s dying of thirst, and you have water, but then someone who isn’t dying of thirst but is starving instead, who do you give the water to? The one who needs it, yes? Yes.
a lot of people are misinterpreting my statement as "we shouldn't give the money to someone who really needs it". the point is that a corporation shouldn't use these people's desperation for entertainment. no one should have to explain their grief and trauma because they need money, because these people turn around and tell each other that it isn't a big deal that they are grieving or that they can't have teeth. if you think they should argue for why they deserve the money, you should be more critical of why this corporation is getting free entertainment out of these people and isn't willing to help them AFTER they hear their story. this shouldn't exist in the first place, and if it does, I don't think this is the way they should play. if you disagree, then that's okay! that's what the discussion is about.
lol I just said this in my comment. Purr
L
I don't see how playing a game makes more sense though once they're already there. Sure this situation shouldn't exist to begin with and the company is using this for profit, but if you accept that it has already happened, the method that makes the most sense is to determine based on need
@Isabella B grieving is a necessary step to healing. It’s also been very well documented that our emotional health ties greatly to our physical health so being able to grieve in peace without having to take on the everyday responsibilities she has (at her job, as a mother, a possibly a grandmother, etc.) will help her overall especially since she hasn’t had the chance to do that for OVER a year.

And the people who share their trauma and the corporation are the ones who are commodifying trauma. The teeth lady is commodifying a need lol
money doesn't heal trauma but being in the everyday environment that inspired the trauma can, AND DOES, kill. black women have the lowest suicide rates and highest rates of dying by heart disease for this same reason; the disposability with which our mental health is treated. the mental sanctity of a mother who just lost her son is just as fundamental and urgent as teeth.
@@joelover270 no, no it's not. Physical needs are first. This is basic psychology
@@joelover270 and the mental sanctity of a mother who just lost her son isn’t going to be saved with a trip or $1000 is what I’m saying.

I feel you on this. Chronic illness or other disabilities are no joke and she’s living on 12k in Seattle. That’s so tough.

They're being mean to teeth lady because they know she's the only one who really deserves it
The only reason the teeth lady once we came to the personal, is because she believes that she deserves it now. The other ladies could have also named problems they have, but they decided not to for the sake of the game. like Nick said, you’re comparing the teeth lady’s physical and more ‘immediate’ problem with the other ladies’ more emotional and mental health problems signing them around and saying you’re not wrong.
Thank you, dental care is hard enough to get when you have money let alone when you have to live on 12k a yeaaaaarrrrr
Kind of pissing me off
Plus, not being able to properly eat will cause health issues like
instead of rating grievances in terms of "whose life sucks the most" they need to compare whose life would be IMPROVED the most by the money, if they want to go that route at all. a child dying is worse than losing teeth however money cant truly help that issue but teeth can be bought ya know? The problem with that is still that it invalidates their issues which is super unfair, a struggle is a struggle and that's that. Therefore I agree the most fair way would be to leave motives aside and just play games.
I don't think it invalidates it ti say it can't be fixed with a small amount of money. If anything, it's the opposite. It's saying "your trauma is so huge, it can't be resolved as easily as these smaller problems can be"

While I understand it seems messed up to compare what others are going through and to be pragmatic in the situation. I don’t see it as unfair necessarily. I put myself in their shoes. They didn’t ask for this. However, they did choose to be a part of it. So while cruel, it’s the name of the game. she needed a fridge. a used one is like 500-600 and a trip (with a car) is like 800 a fixed door is max 400
@@kennidie Having 6 kids is a personal choice, a fridge as you said isn't even that expensive if USED and the woman didn't even talk for the entire video so clearly she didn't care that much.

Good point! I subscribe to that thinking as well.
Respectfully to grey hair lady, 1k isn't going to fix your need to grieve. If you can't tell the ppl in your life that you helped raise that you as an adult woman need time to yourself then it's not magically happening with a little bit of money. You'll go to AZ and come back sad af with the same problems
Exactly
Especially when that need will also affect your mental health..
yeah it made me sick to my stomach. in what world is a VACATION more deserving than new teeth why is that a justifiable position to take/
Fr I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with one of his takes so hard. This doesn’t apply to the charity guys ofc, the, and teeth lady were the only ones I was rooting for.
god these last three ladies were sooooooo rude for how they did teeth lady :(((((( i’m literally gonna cry.
don’t worry!! her go fund me got her the money for her new teeth!!
there was a mention of talking about personal problems being dystopian, but isn't it just as dystopian to dole out what is, for some people, a life-changing amount of money just based on who can stand on one foot the longest? sure, it makes for a more "fun" video, but i don't see how it's any better than what the teeth lady was proposing.
i agree with what the shelter guy said about the teeth. not having teeth isn't worse than grieving a loved one, but $1,000 is literally the only way this woman can get new teeth--- she disabled and lives on $12,000 a year. $1,000 can help with a person's grieving process, but it isn't the thing that makes or breaks someone's recovery. on the other hand, if you are living in poverty and you need new teeth, $1,000 *is* make or break.
That's exactly how I felt about this
Thank you!!! Like why is talking about their lives and problems so offensive to people? Some people have had it worse and might deserve more help than others. Some people are privileged and don't need as much help. Neither of those are weird ideas, but add cameras and apparently you can't compare anything without it being evil. Huh?
EXACTLY
Games like that automatically exclude disabled and chronically ill people also...
It would always be interesting to watch their reaction to that.

i totally get where nick is coming from by not wanting to undermine mental health, but the thing is that you must prioritize physiological needs before psychological ones. it’s literally maslow’s hierarchy of needs. by comparing the issues as they did, it’s not a matter of invalidating mental health, but the attempt to see who truly does need the money more. and yes the whole “exploiting people’s issues for entertainment” thing is weird overall, but that was not the main argument in the video. either way, a lot of people already agree that it’s bad, but that clearly doesn’t stop people from consuming the content
u agree with you i like the example of if two women come into the ER at the same time but one has been shot and the other is threatening suicide who do you think the doctors are going to treat first! the woman who been shot ofc both woman are initialed to treatment but you can see who would benefit more in the moment .

Living on 12k is very very hard, especially if you live in a high incone area while being below the poverty line

@@briansupermega5692 I also think saying the lady without teeth deserves the money isn't necessarily an attack towards the needs of the other women, the needs of the lady without teeth can only be met with money, while mental health and grieving can be dealt with in many different ways, that doesn't make it any less important or valid, for them a solution is simply more accessible without money. nick i truly love you and your content but, as several people have said, the woman who is missing her bottom row of teeth has a need that can benefit the most from and be solved the quickest by winning 1k. emotional needs are important, as well as the time and space one needs to grieve, but this woman literally will struggle to eat until she gets a new set of teeth. a good set of dentures can cost from $1,000-$15,000 per arch-- she is disabled and the minimum amount for one row of teeth is what she makes in a month. the average monthly expenses in america per month is over 5k, just slightly below half of what she makes per year. shes already living a more impoverished life, while disabled, and now she will struggle with the basic human need to eat. she may have damaged her dentures through an act of carelessness but that carelessness does not deprive her of the right to be able to eat and chew food. again, i understand that grief is important and that emotional needs are important-- one of my best friends passed earlier this year--, but please take a step back reflect on this and address it if you can. thank you, im really sorry if my comment was harsh, but thank you for reading it if you did. look forward to seeing more content from you, genuinely

Dude, nick had such a cold take on this. Even with his pinned comment addendum. A vacation won't fix grief, and not having the vacation won't worsen the grief. Nick "there's no ranking system for their grievances"
The charity dude is basically talking about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.

I used to agree with you until I looked more into Maslow's hierarchy of needs
It has a lot of criticisms about not being intersectional as well as ableist....
I just lost my grandfather last week (who was my father figure, I lived with him until his passing and he was there for me more than my bio dad has ever been.) I absolutely agree that ppl fighting for 1k is dystopian and in America something like teeth shouldnt be something that ppl have to essentially go without but ppl make so many assumptions about teeth, it’s a HUGE class barrier and a lot of stigma goes into it like haha those stupid toothless hillbillies etc.
Idk again I love your videos but this just left a bad taste in my mouth like it came across as being pretty outta touch dude.
I agree
100% agree
I think the lady with the teeth deserves the money the most because $1000 would literally get her the thing she wants. Everything else that was asked for, except for maybe the lady who wanted her door replaced, couldn't be achieved with the $1000. I think her life would be improved the most because of that $1000 compared to the others.
Even tho Nick says he can’t stop making videos I keep getting surprised seeing new videos from him just everyday
I never watch this stuff on my own cos it pisses me off.
for sure agree, but that wouldn't be as "entertaining" as watching people argue over each other. it would also be easy for them to just give everyone 1k based on how popular the channel is, but they'd also never do that :/
Well human trauma is not the same as medical issues
Big agree, I hope Nick sees this. He's a kind person, just wish he'd analyze this side of things
I don't know why nobody guessed 25. Safest bet for just not losing
You’re right
Lmao
The way they bullied Jennifer off that couch T_T
~Dont compare struggles, just play childhood games and decide who gets the money~ Nick literally just described squid games
its insane how they didn't give the money to the lady who needed teeth and it genuinely made me furious because my mom was in the same position and it's inexplicably hard to live that way. you can't eat anything unless it's extremely soft and start avoiding social interaction because people give you weird looks or say mean things. i've seen my mom suffer and how her health went even more downhill as a result of not being able to eat much. maybe i'm being too emotional but something as essential as that being completely ignored is frustrating. i hope that lady is doing fine. and i hope no one has to go through any of this.
@@M2R. These two comments need way more likes than others. perfectly said.
The guy said "Your dog?" like she had just said she had a pet gazelle
Honestly, the adorable charity guy getting booted first was a mercy. This game feels like it was made by Lucifer himself
Why's the girl who said they shouldn't compare sob stories suddenly pushing everyone to vote out the girl who they don't like the sob story of?
lool to be fair to the dude who voted himself off, if you watched celebrity gameshows usually its celebrities competing in these games for money to their charity of choice so maybe he thought it was something like that
The woman who needs new bottom teeth shouldn't have to go on a game show of sorts for teeth 😭 that's so depressing, I saw someone in the comments saying she did get them eventually. So I'm glad for that
as someone frequently on the verge of unaliving, my mental health MIGHT kill me. Inability to access food WILL kill you. Teeth every time.
What the hell that guy who voted himself out was so nice
“and so the only way i think it’s right to do it is to play little childhood games”
-nick
this sounds like some south korean netflix show i watched once, don’t remember what it’s called, something about squids i think
Fishing in Alaska is super dangerous tbh give her some teeetthhh
isn't 8 a good choice? If the number is much larger, there's someone who chose 7 that will get eliminated. If it's smaller, someone else chose 9 so they'd be eliminated. If the number IS 8... well, yay! You can't lose by choosing 8... right?
Came here to laugh at greedy people, left lamenting the state of our elder care.
nick, i love you but i completely do not agree with what you were saying throughout. that lady literally makes what you probably make for posting 1 video. $12k a YEAR is absolutely criminal. she’s disabled and doesn’t have teeth. teeth. she cannot pay for that, that’s half of what she’ll get for a single month, not accounting rent, food, other bills etc. i really enjoy your content and i hope this doesn’t come off rude, but i do think you should take a step back sometimes and realize how lucky you are
i think he knows how lucky he is he was just saying weighing personal problems is getting you no where. that's why he suggested the games to make it fair.
yup
@@kennidie I think we have to accept the fact that this game is not fair. playing random games (that have to be thought out cause there's inherent bias in the number guessing game and many others) isn't really a solution. if the question is "who deserves it more?", there may not be a clear 1 choice but there's definitely gonna be a difference between the people who need it less and the people who need it more. if there's a truly random way to choose who gets the money and a person who needs it less wins, was it truly a fair outcome? then that's not the game that they're playing, then it's more "one of these people receives money with no other context at all"
I agree.
didnt come off as rude. came off as idiotic, stupid , unnecessary . you people try so hard to be offended by something and its so fuckin lame , he obviously didn't mean anything negative
Yes.
