Ice yellow is the ultimate mixing color for highlighting without losing saturation too, unlike white. Same with Dark sea blue for shadows, also great for stubble if you thin it down to a glaze.

Ice yellow is the perfect color to add to most paints to get a highlight of that color. Dark Sea Blue is my go to for shadows. It looks really good when you add it to almost anything, especially skin tones for shade.
Oh... Tan Yellow is a bit similar to Japanese Uniform, and Sunny Skin tone is a flesher ( red-er ) version of ice yellow. Both great colors too. Not my faves though. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Great list here Don. Gave me some good food for thought. For general purpose shadows, I use mix Dark Sea Blue and Burnt Umber to make a nice chromatic black that I weight more one way or the other depending on how warm or cold I want a shadow. That White Glaze is just magical stuff too. I love it.

Well. Now I can say I've seen a beauty pageant for miniatures paints. Not for painted miniatures, just for the paints. If you asked me a year ago would I ever see this I would say no of course not. But I would have been wrong. Good vid, too. I'll keep this list in mind next time I'm shopping for paints. Give some of these a try.
I love your channel and your contente. The style is awesome, moreover too advance for a 3 month journey painter... sometimes i feel too advance, hopefully with some practice I will make it to your patreon and learn how to mix and choose colors
Thank you so much! This was perfect-- I was recently trying to find a list of favorite Vallejo colors as I convert from purchasing Citadel (I also prefer having understandable color names as i think about blending). So appreciate your comments as to how you regularly use each of your favorite colors.
It's funny that you say that about paint names. It's what immediately turned me away from Citadel. I do have a few Citadel colors that are lovely but very few.
Dang Don, I just ordered some Vallejo last night , and now I have to order some more ! 😁 Great video !!! I use the Dark Sea Blue a lot , right color for some Japanese ships. Hope you have a great weekend and Thank you for posting.
nice colors! =) For me top 5 colors - Vallejo Game color - 72.012 - Scarlet Red , 72.123 - Angel Green, 72.076 - Alien Purple, 72.110- Sunset Orange, 72.022-Ultramarine Blue

I'll have to give some of these paints a go sometime soon. I bought Beige Red for the skin layering, It's not bad. With the Orange Brown, I could use it to paint hair?
Base color for blonde hair using orange brown should be great. Layering Beige Red is so opaque. Maybe add a bit of medium to make the transitions softer? ☺️
@@DonSuratos I should give it a go, I've rarely used medium with the paints on my models, I mostly use them in the Citadel shades and contrast paints. I'll look into using them for Vallejo. Thank you for you recommendation. 👍

@@DonSuratos Went with Violet Red, Lime Green, Emerald, Dark Vermillion, Deck Tan and Gloss White, mainly because I already have Nocturna set for skin tones and Vallejo leather & wood painting set, otherwise I would probably pick some more! Once again, thank you for recommendations

I think now with the revision to both lines, much improved metallics over both, I don't see a reason to dip my toes into other paint lines. Hi Don,loving all your videos man! You are absolutely informative! Could I ask a little help from you?due to my budget I can’t buy too many colours and the PDF colour chart is not very accurate.I’m gonna buy only the standard red yellow and blue so that I can mix other colours from there .do you mind sharing with me which red yellow and blue to buy ?
Hi, what is the difference between game color and model color? I am thinking of getting a set of Vallejo paints because GW paints are absurdly expensive like all other things from them. Furthermore i heard that Vallejos colors dry slower and enables wet blending easier. Is there any set you would recommend as a starting point?
Model Colors were my favorites. But I would recommend the more durable and more vibrant ( new ) Game Colors. Make sure you get the “new” Game, not the old ones. Cheers! 😊🎨🎨🎨
There are some colours that I can’t choose the game or model version. Like Khaki. It’s mainly for painting my miniatures for gaming on the table but a nice quality job. What should I choose? Game? Or model?
Hello; I find your videos very helpful - Question please: where would I get ‘white’ replacement caps so I could place a drop of color on each so I could easily locate color I need; I live in the US. Thanks
Oh thanks! Hmmm... white replacement caps for Game, Air paints and mecha? I recommend you paint white primer on the caps first, then paint the actual colors. I have no idea where to get white caps. ☺️
I got most of the mentioned of your model colors, Love VA; even got the professional artist line for my art classes, but sometimes they get mix in with the miniature paints :) Whats your top 11 of VA games color and top 15 VA Mecha colors? thanks
Hey Don! I have a friend in the Philippines that's looking to get into mini painting, but me and him are having some difficulty finding places for him to buy hobby supplies. Do you have any suggestions for where to buy paints and minis from?
