In my heart Karrigan is already the GOAT IGL. Ofc objectively youd probably have to give it to gla1ve for being a fantastic IGL in the most decorated line up of all time.
But the flamboyance per se on Karrigan's resume compared to gla1ve's is night and day. Gla1ve has had success with two line ups with one difference between them and won 4 majors with an all Danish team. Karrigan on the other hand, has been the first IGL to ever make an international line up work and a line up full of superstar players. He did create one fantastic Danish line up in TSM but ofc he didnt go all the way with them. More importantly though, he's had four, for the most part, completely different line ups, and made them all Champions. All of which he largely built the teams himself.
First FaZe lineup in early 2017 with allu, kioshima, NiKo and rain was btw the first ever majority international line up to compete for titles. Do remember that FaZe as a project of star players from different countries was a never before tested concept in team building started all the way back in 2015 and had never worked until Karrigan came along. FaZe before Karrigan was a complete waste of space. They were seen like Movistar Riders in the world back then. An alright team that can maybe take the odd map off of a good team but youd never in a million years actually expect to compete for titles and were incredibly inconsistent. Karrigan immediately comes in and makes them a very solid top 10 team that even made playoffs at the major. Then bring NiKo in for aizy and you''re already competing for titles immediately.
Then he made one of the very rare examples in CS where you construct a true superteam (with olof and Guardian), where almost everyone would be considered a superstar on any other lineup, and actually make it live up to expectations. Why do you think the Cloud9 Boston run was such a fairytale and the final is probably the most famous CS match of all time. Because they slayed the four headed dragon. The absolute fear that everyone had after their wins in New York and ELeague was never before seen and never seen since. Many teams have won back to back S Tier tournaments, but none in the fashion FaZe did. You watched New York as they humiliated both C9 and Liquid and just felt bad for the opponents as to how badly they were beaten. Now at the time, Karrigan haters would make the same argument people in football use to discredit Pep Guardiola. They've only had success with the very best players.
Well that argument died the second Karrigan took a tiny org in mousesports with chrisJ who was nearly 30, frozen who couldnt even purchase alcohol, woxic and ropz to a massive championship. He's won both with Real Madrid and Aston Villa.
That all already is incredible, and then now hes just gone and done it again. While it's not mousesports level of obscurity in the players, you take the (as Thorin said in the video) 18th, 19th and 20th best players and take them to the number one in the world where trios like s1mple, electronic, b1t or NiKo, hunter, m0nesy or even sh1ro, Ax1le, Hobbit exist. I love ropz, Twistzz and broky to the maximum but there is no way they have enough firepower for number 1 in the world unless Karrigan is using them to utmost perfection (and to give credit to them, they also fully buy into his system).
Btw, that's 13 different nationalities represented across all of his teams. With all 4 of those lineups being 100% international. That is out of this world. He's already the international GOAT IGL by far, which is a massive title btw, and if he can take this team to a major win, he's well on his way to being right next to gla1ve when you consider the way he's written his legacy. I havent even mentioned yet that hes the only IGL who can somehow use stand ins to absolute perfection on a consistent basis. This guy is out of this world

    • @TheBelgianEmperor
      @TheBelgianEmperor 2 роки тому +10

You haven't even mentioned that the TSM lineup was the only team to consistently beat Fnatic in their era. The only problem they had was that they couldn't seem to get past the semi-finals of big tournaments, but it's debatable how much of that is up to karrigan and how much to the other players. MInd you not, he didn't have a sports-psychologist when he was in the team. And it always seemed to be something psychological. It's not his fault if the org he was in couldn't support him.
And it's also the lineup he built. Sure, gla1ve took them to trophies, but outside of the international lineup success, you can't forget that he's probably the best at building lineups. gla1ve has never even built one. This Astralis is the first time where he didn't take a set core, and so far he has no success. Konfig and BlameF are no slouches, Farlig is a proper AWP-er. He now just needs the guts to tell Xyp9x to fuck off and go to the bench and find them a new player.

After Katowice the subreddit made multiple threads saying he needed to replace Rain on FaZe, that he should be in a top tier team if it isn't FaZe and people kept posting almost daily "has anyone signed him yet." In the real world, where I like to live, this is a guy who flopped at Complexity despite being one of the highest paid players in the world at that time, blamed the team for being dysfunctional as if that's an excuse to consistently not frag and he's been shelved ever since for reasons I can take an educated guess at. He peaked during his time in 100 Thieves. That was 2020.

Gla1ve did win the 4 majors… with a team Karrigan built. Thorin is also saying GOAT in terms of if he had to pick an IGL for a team he was building, Karrigan while he hasn’t won a Major he has done so much with a much harder route. Gla1ve did it all in Denmark with Denmark players. No culture differences. Opposed to Karrigan who has achieved many, many things except No Major with international teams where most players don’t speak English as their first language and he’s also proven over time he can take a player who is in the worst slump and make them look amazing or winning two big tournaments with a stand in lol. Yes I love Gla1ve just like I love Karrigan and I can do the same arguments for Gla1ve because I don’t think it’s just so easy to say 1 is better then the other without really discussing it. Most people just say Gla1ve is better because he won 4 majors and Karrigan hasn’t won 1. That’s so short sided and does a disservice to both of them.

I tuned back into the csgo tournaments around Katowice group stages and instantly I favoured faze and gambit. I think the lost csgo meta now is headshot percentage during sprays and taps. Headshots during sprays really show your mechanics off well, as well as the fact that headshots are soo underrated in that headshots are critical in multi kills. If you just spray one dude down you just get instantly traded. Faze and gambit also had such good trading. So often when watching faze matches I just see multiple faze deaths followed by instant trades. It’s like “oh no worries we lost 3 players in 5 seconds because somehow now it’s a 2v2 and faze has the bomb site”
Headshot percentage is also why na is trash because their games most of them only spray opponents down with no headshots during spray. Also they can’t trade. Navi and g2 are ok. Navi aim is better than G2. Navi is a lot sharper than G2 actually but Faze trades players way better than both these teams.
I think simple really knows what’s up when he said “the team that deals more damage will win.” Headshots give instant 100 damage enough said. Faze are giving more haircuts allowing them to multi frag allowing them to win 4v5 and win ecos.
What’s also not talked about is how every faze player seems to be able to pop off on a per round basis. For example, This round ropz 4K, this round Kerrigan clutch, this round broky hero awp play, this round twistzz triple haircut, this round rain double entry.
Other teams are like hunter popped off vs faze, or hades popped off on overpass on a per game basis.
I saw this is gambit however both their aim as well as their team cohesion with trading instantly dropped a lot. I feel like nafany is not doing a good enough job. But then it could also be hard for them.

      @JOSTEINFR 2 роки тому +1

Good take! Noticed aswell that Faze has started to trade much better, I also think when he said “the team that deals more damage will win.” he also meant trades, if you can come out of a trade with a man advantage you are much better off in afterplants.

This whole gla1ve or karrigan debate has too many facets to really fit into one little debate.
    Just a couple points:
Gla1ve changed the nade meta, led the most decorated team, etc.
Karrigan can elevate practically any line-up to top 5 (or even top 1) contention. What he did with the rag-tag team of Mouseports is just mind-blowing, and of course the current Faze roster.
We can also point out the negatives, that gla1ve is struggling recently, especially with the firepower downgrades and Astralis being a shit org recently, caring about money and publicity over quality. He can't pull off those insane comebacks anymore and go off the stratbook like karrigan does.
But we also have to talk about Karrigan's issues with egotistical players like Niko and Woxic, thereby losing control. Not saying it's necessarily his fault here, but results do matter. Also I've seen lots of people here in the utopia named UA-cam comments section saying gla1ve is fraudulent or does not deserve his praise because it was karrigan's team before. The point is - did he achieve the same things? Did they used to choke massive games? Yes maybe the org hiring a sports psychologist may be a swaying part of the change, but karrigan was also there for that change.
Just my 2 pence, we're only scraping the surface of this conversation. Their skillsets are so different. Both are fucking brilliant.

Imo Karrigan's current situation on the new Faze roster doesnt say much. Having legits aimbots like twistzz and ropz (best lurker in the world imo), and super consistent rain and broky make strats less relevant. Doesnt require much in the way of tactics when your anchor trades for 2 or 3 every CT round, and your entry 1 taps the anchor every T round. We'll have to wait when teams anti-strat him, and see how Faze does.

@@HungTran-gz5em I must agree, but only to a certain extent. Karrigan did not only bring this current roster to trophies, but as I've mentioned, even the seeming confusing line-up of the old Mousesports roster.
Dupreeh was the only entry fragger to be in the top 20 (hell, mostly top 10) to be consistently there year after year. Gla1ve had a rifler that turned into the entire franchises' most consistent player and AWPer with the most MVP medals.

I agree that they need to give this team more time, like you would with G2, Vitality, etc. However, I don't think their ceiling is higher than maybe a play-offs team. I just don't see how they would beat any of the top teams. Faze, NaVi, Gambit/Players, G2, NIP, Furia, VP/Outsiders are all better than them, and I can't imagine them surpassing them. Vitality has a much higher ceiling and who knows what ENCE will do in the future.
They seem similar to Faze where they have a really good core of fraggers in EliGe, NAF and oSee, but nitr0 is just ways below karrigan as an IGL and shox can't have the performance rain does anymore. I think that this team's ceiling is getting to the semi-finals of a big tournament if the match-ups favour them. But at best they are consistently top 8, which is fine for this team, but not what you want from your best NA team.

Objectively #2 in terms of S Tier tournament wins, especially considering the number of teams he has led to said wins. Personally, he is my favorite IGL because he is not just a caller, but a leader, a commander of character.
Tons of tacticians have graced CS in the IGL role, from Gla1ve to MSL, and Alex to Stanislaw, but almost none of those guys regularly elevate their teammate's chemistry and ingame form simultaneously... Let alone whilst speaking a 2nd language.

Casuals think Glaive is the goat IGL for the majors, true Fans now this isn't true.
Everyone knows the argument with Karrigan having let 4 completely different rosters to no1.
But there is a even better one:
Astralis 2018/2019 was the goat team, no argument. They had at the time the goat (device, now of course overtaken B s1mple), the arguably best coach ever, the best clutch player (Minister) and two insane riflers. So you are telling me on top of that Glaive is the goat igl? So the Astralis prime team just had goats in all the positions?
Or maybe, just maybe, the team worked and clicked perfect together? And that's why they won so much?
Glaive has to do it at least with one more team to prove he can do it not only with one roster.

I'll paste one of my thoughts regarding this. I don't give karrigan a lot of flak, but for me he is not the greatest as some people make him out to be. I will probably get a lot of hate for this, but it's an opinion that I feel the need to express anyways.
Karrigan is a one of the best IGLs atm, but he's not GOAT status and he has definitely underachieved relative to what he has worked with in my opinion.
Karrigan has played with more world class players than any other IGL, ranging from multiple top 20 players at the time (#2-20) and had access to the Astralis core (device, Xyp9x & dupreeh). This even includes some of the best players to ever play CS:GO. Karrigan has had god-tier lineups in the past, none of them were good enough to establish an era or be included in the top 10 lineups of all time.
When people argue that his teammates in international lineups have given him praise, with FaZe even taking him back after NiKo left, you need to add context to this. First, mouz and FaZe are both of those teams karrigan has been a part of, neither of which have ever had a dedicated proper IGL other than him. So they don't have any experience with solid IGLs other than karrigan, dexter is not established enough and is still a poor IGL imo if people bring up mouz. In the case of people bringing up the fact that FaZe took him back, replacing a decent/decidated IGL (karrigan) with a bad one (NiKo) doesn't mean that karrigan was a god level IGL.
This brings up the other point, karrigan benefits from the fact that international lineups don't have any dedicated, established IGLs outside of himself and Aleksib (and more recently, Snappi ) in the tier-1 scene. That's why FaZe took him back, that's why his teammates have said he's a good IGL to work with and that's why he keeps staying in top teams.
People having been hyping him up immensely after his team won IEM Katowice. Yes it was with a stand-in, but it was JKS, who performed exceptionally well with what he was given. Also, it came at the fact where the most dominant region and most dominant team were clearly affected by the war. Other less significant factors include broky overperforming with the tournament of his life, NiKo missing since the playoffs and G2 lacking a coach. Yet people act like karrigan was the primary reason for this incredibly narrow win (watching it was amazing nonetheless). It's also karrigan's first ever truly big trophy win (in terms of the most prestigious events which are (Kato, Cologne, Majors).
I am well aware that karrigan has had success with some of the lineups I have mentioned. But success and failure in team sports is relative to expectations, which is determined by the quality of the players in that given team. When you take this into consideration, he has definitely done poorly in some aspects.
Again, I don't think he's a bad IGL nor do I hate him. I think he's a great IGL, just not as great as other people make him out to be; especially when people have literally been trying to argue him being the GOAT IGL as of late.
