Great job. You managed to capture the character of each amp very well . I liked how you changed riffs each time you made a different comparison so we as listeners wouldn’t “default” to a base line each time. Well done !
I wasn’t expecting to like the MW more. When you listen to the pedals through them, the MW sounds tighter, low mids aren’t muffled sounding, highs sound more present
quite a surprise i was hoping to like the RI better but i liked the MW a lot more. As stated below by a few ppl - the RI has a rounder fuller bottom end which some ppl may like but in this case the MW sounded more tight and percussive and less woofy if that makes sense. thanks for taking the time to make these! you've got great taste
@@karolkozak64 I disagree. Like I said at the end, the MW might be more pleasing on its own due to its scooped nature, but the reissue is going to sit in a mix much easier. Plus the multiwatt was way noisier. Either way, thank you for watching!
The MW sounds more modern and more present in these recordings. It would make it stand out in a mix better. The 90s sounds good but would need some studio EQ to get the same cut and punch. Fascinating; I thought I'd prefer the 90s.
Thanks for listening. My opinion is the opposite. I think the mid range of the 90s and the tighter low end will make it fit in the mix with less EQ. The MW has a lot of low end that would need to be removed for the kick and bass, and high end that will need to be removed for the cymbals and vocals.
I’ve owned two Multiwatts and both were extremely quiet with a silent loop. I can run my current one loud and don’t even need a gate. One of the quietest amps I’ve ever owned.
I actually like the 2ch better than the multiwatt, but they sound pretty close if you are passively listening. I really do want a Reissue so I might get rid of some amps I got for one down the road. Cool comparison vid! \m/
In the 90’s I had a 1996 DR (don’t know if it was f or g)… I lived one the orange / vintage channel. Was able to nail the toned from AIC, early foo’s, soundgarden etc….. I did run el34s from Mesa in it….. for for a 2018 multiwatt and I think the thing sounds like ass on the vintage mode. The mids are so ugly scooped, the ends lush way different than the old ones. It’s also very boxy… I’ve only had it for 2 weeks, but I can’t seem to get along with it… maybe it needs retubed… maybe I should el34s in it… I use Les Paul’s with 498t’s and 57+ bridge pickups… putting the cheap mt15 on my 1996 mess 4x12v30 cab it wound better. Its mid scooped, but you can put them back it. Run the gain around noon and it sounds more like my old tone than this multi watt. You left out if you were running diodes or recrifer tubes. I always ran recto tubes in the 90’s and I’m running them on this 2018 MW… the MW does still have all the factory Mesa tubes, so who k owe maybe they are beat…. Regardless, the MW sounds like ass on vintage with normal tunings such as e, drop d, e flat, drop c#…. My 1996 would melt faces, this mw is so damn bright I have to pull the presence back to 8 o’clock, treble at noon…. Idk.. maybe more time with it…
Prefer the MW in most of the samples... It just feels more.. I don´t know how to explain... precise and less congested in the low end. Probably they can be dialled to sound very close with slightly different tone stack settings.
I disagree. Like I said at the end, the MW might be more pleasing on its own due to its scooped nature, but the reissue is going to sit in a mix much easier.
@@StudioNervosaTV I agree. I have the MW, and its pretty scooped on its own, which is a sound I really like even in a mix. Here's a little song I wrote that uses the MW for rhythm guitars ua-cam.com/video/JEVwoln95HA/v-deo.html. I also used a Mark JP2C for some of the leads..
Exactly what Ive been thinking since hearing the demos, the multi watts have a scooped heavier sound and the new dual has this honkier mid range thing going on. I'll stick with my early 2000s triple rectifier, thanks for the comparison
I wouldn’t call it honkier at all. I like the mids better on the new one. It sits in a mix way easier. You’re just hearing the mids much easier because the low end is tighter.
Great demo. I just can’t believe that the progression over the years is more top end and less mids on the newer rectos. my reissue through the darkest recto cab I have still has plenty of usable sizzle and recessed midrange. I can’t imagine less mids and more sizzle. I’m sure you could just turn the knobs and get them on a recording to sound pretty similar. I’m curious tho how they both felt playing in the live room with the cab (not your amphions).
They both feel great in front of the cranked cab. The MW has a lot of low end and sizzle and is really full sounding. The RI has a lot of punch and you feel that knock in your chest when you palm mute. It’s a lot of fun.
Multiwatt all the way. Actually, there is negligable difference between them. Never liked RevG or 2ch or 3ch recto sound, sounds so muffled to me. Multiwatt sounds like RevF/C/D/E which is also not so desirable for me. EL34s or EL34/KT88 mixed or EL34s/6V6S mixed multiwatt is way to go for me. Just a matter of taste.
What happens if you turn the mids up on the multiwatt? I have mine up to ¾ of the way up. I don't think mine sounds scooped compared to all my other amps. Did you have the settings the same or did you try to dial them in to sound similar? Because trying to make them sound similar will absolutely have different mid and presence settings. In your video the multiwatt had a clearer note definition
The mids are just completely different between these two amps no matter what. There was no way to get them very close. They seem to boost totally different frequencies.

No need to sell my Multiwatt. 👍
Great job! I've had Dual's, Triple's and a JP. I have a Single Rectifier now and... It KILLS!
Awesome. My first boogie was a single recto and it was awesome. I also have a JP currently and love it. Great amps!
multiwatt lover here
Well done bud. Good comparison.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!

I have a MW Triple and I'm amazed at how quiet it is too. Especially compared to my Omega and the Bogner....
Cool channel bro. I bought one the other day and i pick it up on friday. I was deciding between this an mk IIc+, hopefully i made the right choice.
@@riffreaper6095 thank you! That’s a tough choice to make. 2C was the amp of my dreams as a kid. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
I am surprised by how good the mw sounds
Both sound good! 90s RI had punchy low end but full if it were in a band mix with a bass. Great video thanks!

Surprised the nasal midrange "honk"/compression of the MW doesn't bother more people. Barely there (if at all) in the RI. Thanks for the demo!

How do you like the Crab Marcus?
The crab is awesome. For the price it is unbelievable!
Much of a muchness, could just turn the presence down on the MW and get a similar sound.
