On today's Quest for the Best @Emirichu and I venture into the depths of despair looking for hope. Hope that we may or may not find in any anime cafe in Japan. We are placing all of our hope in Jujutsu Kaisen, which isn't saying much if you are caught up to the current season.
It's going to be a bloody fun time.

In fact, JJK's dessert is not a domain expansion, it is one of the spheres that Geto consumes to store curses, there is even a scene in the second OP where he pours chocolate over it and it melts the same way

Imo looks like a veil; they had to break multiple barriers to access Shibuya and the dark dome is exactly how it looked for sorcerers in the outside.

I went to the Oshi no Ko cafe you guys went to and I enjoyed it. I ordered the sandwich, the pasta, the shake and the pancakes (I'm a big Oshi no Ko fan 😅).
I can understand why the curries meaning was lost because it is an obscure reference to a character: Kana Arima. Kana is a child actress and she brags that she is the "genius child actor who can cry in 10 seconds" but due to Japanese wordplay, it is misunderstood as the "genius child actor who licks baking soda ". The cream cheese on the plate, when you swipe it with the naan bread I believe is suppose to mimic licking baking soda. A chibi image of Kana licking the floor should of been present at the bottom of the plate and revealed as you cleared more of the cream cheese. Hope that helps! ✌
That's such a cool reference! From someone who didn't go, but still loves Oshi No Ko, I thought the curry was a reference back to Akane as it was the food that she didn't eat during ep 6 that her mom made for her. 😅

All right, time to flex my French knowledge.
The first dish was a méli-mélo salad, which would best be translated as a hodgepodge salad. I guess they just mixed a bunch of greens together artistically. The "à la à bientôt" has me really confused, as the last part means "until soon", so your guess is as good as mine.
The onion soup is pretty straightforward.
Next dish was Japanese beef sirloin (a word i had to look up) with the Itadori sauces and "beef juice", which might just be an au jus.
Finally, some bread, the chocolate dome, and coffee, tea or herbal tea to wrap it up.

Edit: i just saw the menu- so pretty much theyre saying "mixed salad in the À bientôt style" , À bientôt being the name of the restaurant/caterer thats doing the collab
That Jujutsu Kaisen colab looks legit. It's definitely more a colab than an anime cafe though. The price for the food, atmosphere and view is worth. As for the Chainsaw Man cafe, I think the Osaka one I went to back in March was much better in terms of food.
What's wild is that the price wasn't much more than the other cafes!

Letting collab cafes make gourmet meals allows them to come up with creative menus, ones that can reference the source material and its equally creative creators. They should really let them do this often, and let them be equally creative
I even wondered if the chaotic nature of the Black Flash meal is in of itself a reference to the move itself. But I don't remember enough to say that it is
27:22 Sadly chefpk. It is not a domain. Its a Curtain(a barrier technique that hides stuff inside and what trapped everyone in shibuya). Thats why it said Tobari on the menu.

The sausage is also from the udon scene. Denji orders a kitsune udon with an extra Frankfurt on the side
i like this format: seeing both the fan and the chef's critique. with this, we can see two different views about why these dishes are good, bad, or okay.
I don't think there's many significance to the udon and sausage other than the fact that it's the first decent meal denji ate after meeting makima in the anime.
There doesn't really need to be another reason for a chainsawman Cafe though, does there?
@@hanakoisbestgirl4752 I would think so lol. The fun part about anime cafe collabs is them incorporating references into the food. If it's just a piece of food with a wafer of the character that's boring. Emily has talked about it a bunch in her videos.
@@yellowcard8100 that's what I'm talking about... there doesn't need to be much more than references to the show. Like the udon and sausage from Chainsaw Man or say demon slayer Sakura mochi.

I see Emirichu decided to export her Anime Cafe videos to a new channel. Well I'm sure not about to complain about it. I wasn't even aware the two of you knew each other, but it's cool that you do since I'm a fan of both of your channels.
Sweets Paradise charging you for their regular buffet on top of the collab stuff is kind of BS imo. I guess the one good thing is that it means you definitely won't leave hungry since a lot of collab cafes seem to serve pretty small portions of okay-ish food, and sadly it seems the Chainsaw Man collab cafe is no exception in that regard, but an extra $30 is not really worth it.
The Oshi no Ko cafe seemed pretty disappointing, although I guess that's not surprising. Oshi no Ko didn't exactly have a lot of food moments, at least not that I remember, so trying to create foods based around the show seems pretty tough. That said I'd argue that also means you could get more creative, but pretty clearly they kind of phoned it in.
I'm super glad to hear that the Jujutsu Kaisen tasting menu was good. Way too often restaurants will just rely on knowing that fans of the series will pay to support their favorite series and put up with not great food, but clearly this restaurant wanted to actually make good food themed to the show, and that was great to see.

As someone that loves to cook but is in no means a chef I love getting to hear your views on foods and getting to see the mindset of dissecting flavors. I am also fascinated when you are writing in your book about different things you have eaten and always curious what kind of things you are writing. I have always enjoyed your channel and the blend of food, anime, and even workouts is always great to watch and definitely a great inspiration to make fun meals and always keep playing with my food.

From so many videos I've seen about anime cafe's in Japan, no matter how much everyone mocks or comments how mostly everything is bad quality and expensive in america... When I saw the third dish at the Oshi no ko collab, it reminded me of Xiaofe from Scissor seven in buff form.

I actually recall looking for an Oshi no ko pop up while I was in Japan (granted, September) and couldn't find one. I'm a little jealous. Although I also did not spend much time in Shinjuku when I was there. Hopefully the next time I get to go they have something as awesome as the Jujutsu Kaisen one.

also while I decided not to pursue a career in the restaurant industry, and just keep cooking as a hobby, having become friends with the Head Chef at my hotel has lead to several opportunities that I'd probably have never attempted if it weren't for your channel. So thank you very much.
I went to one while in tokyo this year back in July. It was a Final Fantasy Eorzea cafe. The food was delicious, drinks were good, and the staff were friendly.

I was at that place as well, honestly the buffet at that Sweets Paradis was not worth the calories. Wish I had seen this before we went but you didn't post this until after we went in mid-November, so probably a few days after you recorded this.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this place was bad but 3/10 shows just how kind a soul you are, I thought the place was a 1.5/10.

What a crossover!
I went to the Monster Hunter cafe in Akihabara on my previous trip. Pretty neat interior, sadly they didn't update the decor from World to Rise all that much, but it had some cool weapons and armor sets on the walls. Lighting was a bit low to set the mood, menu was pretty good and not too expensive. Like the Oshi No Ko Cafe they used a QR code with your phone to basically build up a tab that you paid upon exiting. Not bad, and evne without a reservation I got in right at opening. I went in winter on a rainy day to be fair, I'm sure in the warmer seasons it's a lot busier. Next time I wanna try check out the Eorzea Cafe.
