As purely a content consumer I had no idea of the small things I could do to help out. I surely will going forward. Thanks for all the content and your candor. Stay rad man.
I'm old, but I still love BMX! Now that I can throw a little cash on a bike, I will. I could not get a Panda or a JMC when I raced 15 expert. I sold my bent PK ripper for a bass. I now have a floval flyer, fast ripper, OM Duro and a Haro 26 BMX cruiser that kills on the doubles. Make dirt cool again! It's fun! Post more dirt ripping bmx ACTION, and creat a new market. There's like 10 guys that can do the amazing tricks. Bring it back to dirt and having fun for 15 bucks.
Love your channel. I started with a reproduction skyway in chrome with 21.5 top tube witj white GT 1.75" tires, white and blue accents, dual pivot brakes that work great. I love it and love riding it. The modern style bmx bikes all look cheap anf dont hold a candle in my opinion. Keep up the great work!
Some of the things you spoke about on this video hit home with me. For instance, I do enjoy the challenge of "bringing back something from the dead." Many of the bikes in my collection are resurrections. Your videos motivate me to continue with my hobby, as there are hardly any other people around my area that have much interest in old school BMX. Thanks
You’re right the prices have skyrocketed on old school BMX. I did research to see if I could get the frame and fork I had when I was a kid . Yes I found it $2500.00 just f&f . If I remember right back in 83 mail order through Frankford BMX it cost $ 120.00 Hutch TJ frame and fork. Loved the head tube angle on that frame
I retired from the auto restorations and performance industry and decided to resurrect old BMX bikes from my youth. Welding, powder, chroming, anodizing, polishing, etc.....a lot of purists hate this, but I enjoy bringing the old stuff back from the dead and giving the stuff new life. It's becoming harder as even the old junk is bringing big bucks. Things have calmed down from 2020, but I think there is still a large contingent that are dreaming for 2020 sales prices. Once reality hits a bit more we will see things come down maybe another 20% or so.
@RadBMXBuilds The confounding thing to me is that a fully restored Chevelle would cost 100k and an old junkyard Chevelle is 10k. However in the BMX industry it's almost as if old pitted 6/10 ratty stuff goes for MORE than fully restored. It makes no sense. The purists are actually the ones keeping the prices up because they overpay for poor conditon parts, which means we restorers have to pay more for old junk to bring back where there is massive time and resources invested to do so.
Everything is speculative these days. Things are getting expensive. I choose builds where I get a good start price on the frame and fork and collect the rest from there. Being a purist is out of my budget. Plus, I ride them and may scuff them. I prefer the experience over the pristine investment rarity carpet queen
Here’s a thought: once Gen X and millennials move on from the retro BMX scene, demand for these bikes could crash. Prices might drop across the board, except for a few iconic models that hold value due to their historical importance. I get your point about the current boom, especially with some individuals and businesses clearly taking advantage and overcharging. But honestly, I can’t see this trend lasting much longer.
They'll become just like old Schwinn, and pre WW2 stuff....They'll still be 'worth' something, but only to the sellers and a small sample of a very aged bracket . Whenever a hobby starts making you money, sell EVERYTHING. Dont be the one holding when the music stops.....the music always stops.
Excellent video Sean ! I’m glad someone spoke out about this , bmx prices are insane! Parts as well , I’m building an ELF and a Diamond Back right now and I can’t believe the prices. All your builds are awesome keep up the good work ✌🏻
I love videos and the bike builds, takes me back to a better time and I get to see the bikes we use to ride. I built one bike, ‘87 PFT and that was difficult enough. I am currently trying to track down my personal bike from back in the day and if I find it, that will be the last one I restore. Best of luck with everything, Merry Christmas
This video is a goldmine of insights for sure. I love the unfiltered comments and perspectives. Good advice for aspiring content creators and bike builders based on your many years of experience. Thanks 🙌
I am new to your channel and content. I absolutely love it. Super happy that you just say it as it is. I appreciete that as most of us Gen X'ers are the same. I appreciate all that you have done and the time that it must take to make these videos. Job well done. Even though I am a Canadian, I would like to thank you for your Service. Wow, you think that prices are getting out of hand in the United States, try being Canadian and having to add 30 something percent to those prices as our dollar is worth alot less. It is especially crazy when you only live a 10 minute walk from the United States and my Wife and Children are from the United States also. I just restored a 1983 Diamond Back Silver Streak. It turned out Amazing. I had the Frame and Fork Re-Chromed in Buffalo, NY.. They did such an Awesome job.. Just waiting for my Crank to come in the mail and it will be completed. I got the Inspiration from watching your channel. I grew up working in high end BMX Bike shops as a Kid and have literally built Hundreds of custom bikes 30 years ago. I specifically like how you say you are not a purist on your re-builds. That is a good thing because no one in the 80's were purists. We all just wanted the parts that we thought were the coolest or what worked best for us individually. It kept the bikes more interesting. I am going to continue in this hobby. Thanks for bringing back all of the Inspiration to be Rad.. I wish you and your Family a very Merry Christmas and once again, thank you for such wonderful content and being a Cool Dude that is a straight shooter.. Cheers!!!
I really appreciate that. Love my Canadian brothers. I’ve served side by side with them. I’d love to see your DB when it’s done. I have an original 83 Silver Streak
Ever built any Robinson's? 82 Gusset was my first BMX bike at 10 years young. Loved that thing. Had SE power wing bars, tough neck, sunshine sealed hubs the FAT ONES, KKT lightning pedals. Got punched by some thief in a parking lot at 11, still remember the dude. Sorry kid! Gold and Chrome was gone. Got a PK ripper right after that candy apple red.
I couldn’t agree more!! I rebuilt an 87 Haro FST . Was the bike I had when I was a kid. I bought the frame about 7-8 years ago for around $100 and now the same frame in the same color is on eBay for over $400. Then I just started accumulating parts until I had it all ready to go. Waited for my brother to be home so we could put together like the old days. It was a bunch of money but I wasn’t doing it to sell it and make money. I was doing it to take me back to 1987. It’s my Time Machine. I’m 47 and too fat to ride it the way I wanna but it’s my wife’s ride when we ride bikes instead of walking and I get choked up every time I take it off the wall for her to ride. It’s not something you can get into and make a bunch of money on it. I would love to keep building but prices are insane. The time money blood sweat and tears that goes into these makes them priceless. You are doing what you love to do because it is your passion and I admire you man! Love your Cru Jones bike!! If I build another that’s the one I wanna do. Stay Rad!
“That sounds like a you problem..” love it Sean!! Always appreciated the unfiltered candid content. Thanks for speaking on the subject…prices are nuts, 5-6k on an old school bikes. To each their own I guess. I will let those commercials run now to get that extra penny!! Appreciate your time and Happy Holidays!! 🤙🤙🤙
Preach!!. Nothing but respect for what ypu do. The attention to details. You have inspired me to start on a rebuild of my child hood cruiser. 1996 haro group 1 24. Thank you for what you do.

That glass display case/ desk is awesome. 5k for a bike? Can barely afford 500 for a bike. Been looking for an old redline 340 for a decade that I could afford. Love to hear your honesty. Keep up the hard work.
first thanks for all you videos you post they’ve inspired me in so many ways BUT sadly yes i’ve researched an found i still can’t afford a bike or parts to put together a bike like we all rode I wanted to build a bike for my son an sadly i’m priced out before ever getting started people an their greed disgust me so thanks for saying your rant cuz it’s needed these were never over a 1000 dollars but please KEEP DOING THESE INSPIRING VIDEOS an keep bringing me back to my good old days when times we’re better an things was made to last last thing i want is to buy a cheap made bike from walmart or a over priced ugly new school plane jane no character bike from a bike shop an sadly i live in the bmx capital an can’t find a dealer that sells these old bikes either so il be here dreaming so keep posting PLEASE
It’s becoming a status symbol with some people, I’m all about loving the actual building and riding them. I cannot own a bike and not ride it, that is just not in me to own a bmx and never use it. Keep ‘em coming I’ll keep watching’em
Yep... the fun was scoring that part you need. I got out about 1 year ago and sold the small collection. Prices did get crazy. Only bike I might buy now is my GRAIL... Slingshot
Great video. I appreciate your honesty and content. I have kinda moved away from original old school bikes because of the crazy prices. I buy new retro bikes now and customize a few parts to my liking. Mostly 26s because I'm mid 50s and enjoy the practicality and comfort. The prices are affordable and the new tech is better anyway. It is nice that the bike industry offers products for our age group. Just wish they would make BMX bikes chrome plated again. So sick of the ugly frame colors. Don't know much about the buisness end of social media, but I do know it is a fkn cesspool full of scammers. Stay strong and true Sean. Keep up the great work! We will keep watching.
Prices are getting insane, there's a bunch of repop stuff on ebay going for about the same as original parts. Also, was really wanting to get some Oakley grips for my Redline but, the prices are beyond insane. Keep shredding 🤙
Love watching your video's and learning from them. I agree on the prices on the old skool bikes are ridiculous 🙄 I got lucky at a scrap yard and found 1987 Dyno comp for $5 10yrs ago. I'm 48 and still ride.
When you mention about a bike being worth whatever it is for oneself. If whoever was inquiring and then pays them that amount whether it be 10$ or 10,000 could be a reason the prices are getting the way they have.
Just found your Instagram a little over a year ago. Rode in the 80s racing then freestyle. Been saving and collecting bikes from my local dump and garbage nights. A little ove 15 years. Jus subscribed
there's collectors and there's flippers: the collectors are willing to pay almost anything for their passion projects.. the flippers *know this and are taking full advantage. for ppl, like Sean (and myself), who actually like 'the build' process - it creates a degree of spite; which is probably part of the reason this video was created.. this greed kills the hobby!
I really enjoyed your rant ; you hit it on the nose about this ridiculous pricing of old school BMX ; I built my dream bike over the last five years . A little background ; I started racing in the 80s and raced a Patterson…it was stolen , would have loved to build one to hang one in the shop , but they want three to seven thousand dollars for a bike that isn’t worth more than five to eight hundred dollars…absolutely ridiculous!! Sorry long enough post …like your. Content …happy holidays
Thanks for being honest. Your video on your favorite 26-inch bikes. With the custom yellow EF pro performer. Inspired me to want to try again. Previously, I was given the stigmatism from others that adults shouldn't get on a bmx. But the more content you and others make. Has me thinking, you know what? Why not!? I'm still not sure if a 24 or 26 is better. Do you lean towards one more than another? Do you have a video showing the comparison for people who are interested in getting back on a bike?
I have like 3k videos and just recently broke 1000 subs. I'm not doing it for money luckily. It's more keeping a diary of my journey and anyone who chooses to follow is welcome. And yes there are a lot of spamming trolling nasty people out there. Thanks for sharing your passion with us and stay RAD
Seen auction on ebay for old school parts 3k for handlebars 2.5k for dx cranks near 2 k for wheel set damn only a rich man can enjoy the old school bmx nowadays 😢
Untill you showed your studio it looked like you were a GT dealer shop from back in the day. Yeah to many people thank a mass production frame set is worth 10 times what it cost back in the day based on what name it was manufactured for.
Love it. And (maybe not so) hot take - half the keyboard warriors getting pissy in the comments woulda never liked the BMX & freestyle (later street) scene back in the day, anyway. They say they wanna dig retro, but would never liked it when it was new in the first place.
@@RadBMXBuilds Dang sorry was trying to help out, but since everybody’s so defensive, I’ll just be straight. The acoustics in that room suck. I turn your videos off most of the time because the audio quality isn’t up to bar. Sorry man take care.
Every hobby comment section I've been in is complete 💩 The firearm community is the worst. Moto is pretty salty too. The only non 💩 comment world I've been too is the fpv drone community. They had the least amount of toxic trash. It was almost zero.
Thank you for the great vids! Perhaps you are too honest and candid for your own good? Please don't worry about UA-cam algho, etc. Just post vids for your own love. I have been on UA-cam since 2007, two different channels - one is monetized - you do you, be happy. Post because you love making great videos, nothing else. Greetings from Los Angeles. I've been an actor an a stand up comedian all over the world - even on US military bases - thank you for your service. Do everything out of love and love only. Peace.
Good video, I am not interested in becoming a content creator. I have been building bikes for only about 9 months and have a total of 11 bikes from the late 70s and up to 1999. I have a great variety of bikes. Good channel
I don’t know you and I’ve never seen any of your videos with that being said, I don’t know if you are in this category but what burns me is not collectors but hoarders. That guy up in nor cal old school fools fits that bill, he doesn’t just want a set of hutch pedals he wants all the hutch pedals, he doesn’t just want a pair of bullseye hubs he wants all the bullseye hubs, kept in glass cases never to be built, just hoarded, frames encased in plexiglass never to be ridden, I think that is sad and a big part of what’s wrong with the scene. You see the same thing in the vintage guitar scene, a few Richie’s have the majority of what’s out there 👎
As purely a content consumer I had no idea of the small things I could do to help out. I surely will going forward. Thanks for all the content and your candor. Stay rad man.

We all have our own feelings towards bikes. I hate crappy looking bikes and purists are delusional because nobody rode stock bikes
But honestly, I can’t see this trend lasting much longer.

the collectors are willing to pay almost anything for their passion projects..
the flippers *know this and are taking full advantage.
for ppl, like Sean (and myself), who actually like 'the build' process - it creates a degree of spite; which is probably part of the reason this video was created.. this greed kills the hobby!
Well put
I really enjoyed your rant ; you hit it on the nose about this ridiculous pricing of old school BMX ; I built my dream bike over the last five years . A little background ; I started racing in the 80s and raced a Patterson…it was stolen , would have loved to build one to hang one in the shop , but they want three to seven thousand dollars for a bike that isn’t worth more than five to eight hundred dollars…absolutely ridiculous!! Sorry long enough post …like your. Content …happy holidays
Well said!Merry Christmas
Thanks for being honest.
Your video on your favorite 26-inch bikes. With the custom yellow EF pro performer. Inspired me to want to try again. Previously, I was given the stigmatism from others that adults shouldn't get on a bmx. But the more content you and others make. Has me thinking, you know what? Why not!?
I'm still not sure if a 24 or 26 is better. Do you lean towards one more than another? Do you have a video showing the comparison for people who are interested in getting back on a bike?
No but that’s a great idea
🐸✝️
do you ever see any kenny roberts frames anymore,i had one in 77/78?
No
Have you considered posting your videos on Rumble?
No
I have like 3k videos and just recently broke 1000 subs. I'm not doing it for money luckily. It's more keeping a diary of my journey and anyone who chooses to follow is welcome. And yes there are a lot of spamming trolling nasty people out there. Thanks for sharing your passion with us and stay RAD
Absolutely. Thank you for watching
Seen auction on ebay for old school parts 3k for handlebars 2.5k for dx cranks near 2 k for wheel set damn only a rich man can enjoy the old school bmx nowadays 😢
It’s become stupid
Untill you showed your studio it looked like you were a GT dealer shop from back in the day.
Yeah to many people thank a mass production frame set is worth 10 times what it cost back in the day based on what name it was manufactured for.
Exactly
Awesome always enjoy your content
I appreciate that!
Love it. And (maybe not so) hot take - half the keyboard warriors getting pissy in the comments woulda never liked the BMX & freestyle (later street) scene back in the day, anyway. They say they wanna dig retro, but would never liked it when it was new in the first place.
And thank you for all you do!
Gotta get a mic / fix echo. Gets tough to hear.
Turn up your volume
@robamus It’s on your end guy. I have no issues hearing his videos and no echo
@@RadBMXBuilds Dang sorry was trying to help out, but since everybody’s so defensive, I’ll just be straight. The acoustics in that room suck. I turn your videos off most of the time because the audio quality isn’t up to bar. Sorry man take care.
@ okay cool
Sean, have you ever built a Schwinn Sting?
Looked back in the vids and don’t think I ever saw one. Just wondered. Merry Christmas
No just some Predators
Every hobby comment section I've been in is complete 💩
The firearm community is the worst. Moto is pretty salty too.
The only non 💩 comment world I've been too is the fpv drone community. They had the least amount of toxic trash. It was almost zero.
This video has needed to come out
Awesome bikes, but not letting the ads play.. 😂😂😂
ผมคนไทยชอบช่องนี้ได้เห็นรถทุกรุ่น
❤❤❤
Thank you for the great vids! Perhaps you are too honest and candid for your own good? Please don't worry about UA-cam algho, etc. Just post vids for your own love. I have been on UA-cam since 2007, two different channels - one is monetized - you do you, be happy. Post because you love making great videos, nothing else. Greetings from Los Angeles. I've been an actor an a stand up comedian all over the world - even on US military bases - thank you for your service. Do everything out of love and love only. Peace.
Thank you so much and for supporting the troops
Great Vid! Thanks for sharing!
It's not easy to beat Barry Nobles. But if the track wasn't perfect, and you have the sand, you might be able to kick some ass.
Like and subscribe! and stay rad!
Yeah the prices are getting out of hand ever since the plandemic.. Thanks for keeping it real dude!
Always!
Bro 389 for bike petals..???
I woild buy them if i could ...
Well said man!!!!!!!
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Now where was I…..
Haha sorry about that 😅
But keep grinding man you rock
🍻🍻🍻
Good video, I am not interested in becoming a content creator. I have been building bikes for only about 9 months and have a total of 11 bikes from the late 70s and up to 1999. I have a great variety of bikes. Good channel
I wouldn’t recommend anyone become a content creator. It’s much easier just doing your own thing
im such an idiot, im 45 years old, spent 20 plus years in a 1% MC, ....I got ripped off $1700 for a 1986 Haro on FB, be careful
Sorry to hear that.
oh stop, its redline or profile cranks and profile hubs
What are you talking bout?
I don’t know you and I’ve never seen any of your videos with that being said, I don’t know if you are in this category but what burns me is not collectors but hoarders. That guy up in nor cal old school fools fits that bill, he doesn’t just want a set of hutch pedals he wants all the hutch pedals, he doesn’t just want a pair of bullseye hubs he wants all the bullseye hubs, kept in glass cases never to be built, just hoarded, frames encased in plexiglass never to be ridden, I think that is sad and a big part of what’s wrong with the scene. You see the same thing in the vintage guitar scene, a few Richie’s have the majority of what’s out there 👎
That’s not me at all but that also doesn’t bother me either.
I love your show brother
Thank you
I like honesty and no BS as you’ve expressed here. I’ve learned a lot from this post. Thank you so much for the insight. 🤙🏼🫡
