1. 1cm thick MDF board
2. 360 nails (nails are from 7 mm cable clip)
3. Colored threads (yellow, green, cyan, red, white and black)
4. Bowls to hold the thread spools

Beautiful work and great effort one question please about the colors, are you using the same 6 colors for all the colored portrait does it act like the CMYK idea ? or how you decide the 6 colors you work with ? thank you again for this great presentation and all of your work
Normally CMYK works for most of the images. But at times I have also included green, brown, red, blue and nude shades. It depends upon colours in the image

You will have to physically position the bowls. I tried rotating table. It does not work

Someone on the internet tried to make this are using automated machine and thought to color strings with machine as well, that video was extream and in this video this guy making it with his bare hands and gave 50 hours, that just went through roof of extream. really enjoyed the timelaps!!

I buy from local merchants, especially wholesale merchants. You will not find it in a general store. You will have to find local shops dealing only in threads.
Is there a good rule of thumb for projecting how long a project will take? How long did this take you? Inspired but curious if I would ever have the time to start and finish such a project.
Once you have got some experience and practice with this art, the board prep work takes around 3-4 hours for black and white portrait. Same for a coloured portrait takes around 5 hours. The actual weaving of portrait will take around 5-6 hours (with small breaks to relieve your fingers and shoulders) for black and white one. For coloured one it will take you around 40-50 hours (actual weaving time not including breaks). Over 30% of time in coloured you will spend on stopping one color thread and starting another one. Remaining 70% will be spent in weaving the portrait

How about applying a glue after giving a temporary knot so that it won't loosen as time pass by? (Sorry if this is a foolish thought)
You can do that but it’s unnecessary actually. Temporary knots are only until u finish the portrait. Once finished you put permanent knots. Also the friction between the threads on nails and the tension between the threads does not allow it to loosen that quickly. But u can apply glue u if u r planning to stop and then restart months later 😁

Would be a 90 cm diameter okay or would you recommend something different like 100 cm? What size is the picture you are showing in your video?
The board size I have used was 36 inches by 48 inches. But the circle I made was about 90 cm diameter. For the number of nails I had used and the distance I had wanted between the nails this diameter was ok. But you would need to increase the diameter if you plan to use more number of nails or want to increase the distance between the nails for the same nail count.
Awesome work! But let me ask you one thing: why do you change the colors 'on the fly'? Why can't you just wire them one by one like yellow first, then magenta, etc just like CMYK printing on paper?
Thanks and a good question. A simple answer is that when you int using CMYK the print only happens on the pixels where it needs to be printed so it works. But when u are working with string it is not exact for all the pixels along the woven line. Some pixels are correct while others will be error. Hence you to need to keep changing the colors on the fly to compensate for the error pixels
How to find the thread colour should wind there in particular places ? If its black no problem but how ti use colours exactly in which pin
Template tells you which color to work with on what pin and also the sequence you need to follow. Try out the free template I have shared in video description

1 degree. It’s 360 nails set at 1 degree apart. Distance in cm will vary depending upon six of board

How do you know what color threads you are going to need?
Normally CMYK palette will work for almost any image. But you can always try out more colors if the software allows for that. To know which colors, you can use svg converters to find out top palette colors in the image.

I will need to check. Normally one 5000 spool of thread works for at least 2-3 portraits. The most used color is black
