It's an honor to know you liked how we built the main mechanics of the Madwalker and the Dragonblade.
As you well said, we tried to bring as much choice and impact to how these new classes played in combat.
They were tested extensively to make sure that, even while having a lot of options, they would not outshine base classes.
Yet our most important goal was to breathe life on those concepts and give players many choices of how to build and play these new classes.
I hope people will enjoy the sample as much as we enjoyed working on it.

I would love more homebrew reviews like this, your format is great and gave me a good idea of the world without overloading me with information. I hope we get to see more, would love for this to be a big series.

Thank you for the review and insights @The Wintry Wyvern. The sample has been quite a success, but we still would like to prompt and welcome any constructive feedback, as we really believe that we build better gaming experiences together with the community. Just reach us on any of our Social Media. And of course, invite everybody to come on August 31st. Tanares RPG will be launched on Kickstarter, so save the date. As great as our sample seems to be, according to those who are playing it, we can assure you we still have many extraordinary things under our sleeves that we will unveil and would like you all to see since we are REALLY aiming to "Take your 5e to the Next Level".

I love the Penumbra and Madwalker themes. When you read the class description, images of ic situations and character concepts flooded my mind.
The race concept is also unique! Its racial feature is 'no min-maxing' which is hilarious to me.

This is already getting my creative juices flowing mostly in trying to finding loopholes in the Malrokian curse one idea I have is undead the curse states bloodshed well undead don't have blood and any catastrophe that does happen will just make more resources for necromancers so suddenly a massively demilitarized society has to fight against a increasingly growing undead horde and rampant catastrophes a perfect opportunity for adventures to be recruited.

OUTSTANDING!!! Flipping through the Sample pages, and must say, even owning most of Kobold Press (great) 5e books, This really has the potential to be the BEST 3rd party release EVER. August couldn´t come fast enough already!!!!

I appreciate your coverage of this! While I'm not interested in diving into the rpg itself anytime soon, I'm very interested in what it offers for the board game and having some extra backstory/context is always fun :D

@@WintryRPG What about a whole review on all of Matt Mercer's homebrew? Blood Hunter, Cobalt Soul Monk, Open Seas Paladin, Maestro Bard, Blood Cleric, Juggernaut Barbarian, and Runechild Sorcerer? I have yet to see many videos talking about some of the latter so it'd be nice to see them looked over :)

I'm not sure if I'd allow the classes (as they are so far) into a regular D&D campaign. As you say, they can be trimmed back a little and would be interesting. I see them supporting the setting rather than "this class will fit any setting". It's not a bad approach - just different. It's rather similar to the way the rules of The Dark Eye (Das Schwarze Auge) supporting its setting of Aventuria. You might be able to use DAS for the Forgotten Realms with some work but you're probably better off saving time and effort by playing in the Middenrealm.

In fact, the classes can be played on any setting. =D
Madwalker Penumbral plane focus can be easely adapted for the shadow plane, and that is the suggestion we will include on the class.
Dragonblade works wonders on Tanares, but can be fun on any setting where Dragons exist and are powerful. ( Dungeons and... DRAGONS! xD )
The Elementalist and the Redeemer both also bring things that are part of Tanares, but not exclusive to it.
All classes were created in a way that they can be played on any setting you wish to run and find them appropriate as a DM.
The races on the other hand are thematically part of Tanares, and their history and society would require some explanation to make them work in other settings, but they can be very nice aditions to DMs running their own worlds, as their rich lore may inspire different ideas and concepts for your own campaigns.

Excellent review! It was succinct but you could tell when you were excited about something. That's a good thing for the player in me but a bad thing for my wallet. With so many games out there I love what this company brings to the table. The passion they have and the world building makes me feel like this is the kind of world I want to really dive into. I already have the Arena/Tanares board game coming and I feel this is a natural addition to that. I've played D&D a couple of times and loved it! Getting my buddies together for it has been the hard part. Now I'll have a world I'll know and one that surely will be expanded upon. The fact there is a solo mode to this RPG makes me feel that even if I cant get them together I'll still be able to use it. So pumped! I think I have to add on the dragon collection and legendary box to my original order now. Lol. Again excellent review. You have a new subscriber.
