A lot of the time, the therapist will tell you that this is to stimulate the nerves, or to increase bloodflow, which it does. Beyond that, though, it also acclimates you to the sensation of a particular tool (temperature, hardness, texture, etc.) so that you feel familiar with the item before it actually goes in your ear. The practice also builds trust in the therapist, and helps release stress/ reduce tension in the facial muscles that can cause the ear canal to narrow.
I’m curious how you’re able to catch that sound as if you had mic in your ears. Do you take a separate sound and layer it with the video? Thats the only possibility that i can think
