    Today I will be showing you how to install a brand new detached garage electrical supply, and completely rewire the garage including new earth rod / spike .A New socket circuit and lighting circuit in the garage was installed in very cramped conditions.
    I show you a in-depth view of how to install the garage consumer unit

    Hooked on the content.
    Thanks for the discovery of the earth connection nut with internal threads for grub screws + flying lead. A nice tidy technique to finish the connection in more ways than one.

    Excellent! One of the most informative videos I've seen. One hopefully simple question which I hope will be a yes or no answer. I am planning to build a new log cabin in the garden with power and lighting for any number of potential future uses. I have a 1930's property with likely a 1960's fuse box. Some electrical diy has been done, I believe to a reasonable standard but not to today's regulations. In all my 50 years in the property there have never been any electrical faults I've needed to call an electrician for. The question is, can I get a new independent feed to the log cabin, with isolator in the house and consumer unit in the cabin done to current specifications WITHOUT touching / testing the pre-existing house wiring? Or does the whole property have to conform to current standards?

    Your meant to trun the erthing nut the other way once you have scratched away the paint. You get a better earth contact. When your using a plastic boxs you can put it that way. Keep up the good work mate I am enjoying it 👍

      Nice neat job again, new to your channel, glad to see my garage isn't the only one that's busy😮.
      Was the earth rod belt and braces it didn't look that far form the board.?

    How’s it going, I’m not a sparks now but I’m wondering why you need an earth rod when you could connect the earth back to the main board in the house via the cable that’s feeding the board in the shed?

    With you earthing the armoured from the house and then an earth from the earth spike is that ok with an earth from the house used on the armourd? Cheers

    Your right in what you say most electricians , can tell with a visable inspection if it needs a rewire , or new consumer unit .. yes some do need testing but imo 1960s / 1970s / 1980s will need work on them infact I have seen lead cables still in use .. I have been a spark for over 40 years , I’ve seen all sorts. New switches / sockets to hide what is behind them . And imo it is a lot easier and less expensive , and safer to replace . Than to repair Testing is all well and good but if I walk in a house flat etc I can normally tell if it needs replacing especially in older properties .

    What size fly lead do you put to the swa nut on gland nut ? Would you normally match it to size of conductors in swa mate ?

    You have a pleasant manner and some nice videos, thank you. Do you not have to put the T&E cable coming out of the CU in protective conduit?

      Thanks for your comments. No you don’t have to as it is on show. It also depends on what spec the customer has agreed to in some respects 👍

    I'm a bit confused about consumer units, and apologies in advance if this is a silly question, or if it was answered in the vid:
    I need a CU in my garage, and obviously I have a main CU in the house, so will the electrician take a power feed from the existing consumer unit into the garage, or does the new feed have to come from the meter box?

    • @GreenHawkConstructionltd
      @GreenHawkConstructionltd  9 місяців тому

      No problem in asking at all it should be from the main consumer unit in the house ideally

    Would you say its better to have the t+e coming out of the house into a weatherproof junction to the swa, or have a junction inside the house and run the swa through the wall?

    Hi mate, thinking of installing a EV 7KW Charging port, preferably want to put a two way consumer unit with RCBO to other side of cellar form main supply. Would I need long tails or armoured cable for second consumer unit inside the house and what size? . Distance is 10metres, plz advise?
    Don't worry work will be carried out by qualified electrician but I wanna do prep work to save on costs.

    • @matthewfewings6023

      My understanding is if you rod the garage separate, you don’t connect to house earth. To earth potentials in arms reach.

    • @davideyres955
      @davideyres955 3 роки тому

      I’m not a sparky but as I understand the regs you need an Earth rod if you have extraneous metal parts coming into the building due to different Earth potentials. Also depends on the supply to the house as to if you need an Earth rod or can use the Earth from the house, but I’m sure someone will let people know for sure. Great channel though and a good chap for sure.
