LB walking out in his warm up jacket in front of all his peers and winning the 3 point contest. Now that is how you show others when you have supreme confidence in yourself and your abilities. Plus as the story goes walking into the locker room and saying "I just want to know 1 thing, which 1 of you is coming in second?" That is how legends are made!

One of the Boston-LA finals, I watched Michael Cooper trying to guard Bird. After one trip down court where Bird scored, Cooper, the best defensive player in the league, just looked at Riley and turned his hands palms up, like saying, "What do you want me to do? Nobody else has stopped him, and I can't either."

Larry did his magic without carrying the ball over, unlike Jordan.

Bird will always be my favorite NBA player. What he lacked in athleticism he definitely made up for in every other attribute a player can possess. Larry Legend ☘️

Larry Bird's been asked many times who the toughest defensive player he ever played against was, and his answer has always been Michael Cooper. There were other players during that period who were more athletic who's skill sets were as impressive. But Bird's well above average skill set combined with his unparalled basketball IQ made him as lethal as any player in the league. Like James Worthy often said, "Larry played the game like it was chess while the rest of us were playing checkers."

What Bird has shown in his career is his toughness, will to win, despite what he would 'lack in athleticism' category, like jumping high or running quick. He was just a smart player, hustled for the plays and played it to picture perfection. Larry Legend is in my mind, the best small forward ever.

Bird is Top 5 DOA. This should be more commonly acknowledged within the basketball community.

Being from Boston area saw Larry play hundreds of times on TV . All I have to say is my neck still hurts from shaking my head so many times after plays he was involved in .

Vintage Bird's my #1 pick on my all-time team. Besides numbers, 3 MVP's with 4 runner-up years, and scoring/rebounding/assist averages, and 90/50/40 years, and defense, he just made his team that much better. C's without Bird won 29 games, Bird's rookie year they went to 61 games. They fell off again substantially when Bird retired. It's a team game. Besides his world class individual contributions, he just made everyone around him that much better. Bird is the Wayne Gretzky of basketball, knows where everyone is all the time ahead of the play.

As a Lakers fan, he was the only player that struck fear in me when we played against teams in the league. He’s kinda pale and pasty looking, doesn’t have a sculpted body but man that dude would wear you out. One of the most intelligent players in league history. Just had a great feel for the game and rose to the occasion. I hated Boston back in those days but we Lakers fans respected him and his teams because they brought that intensity all the time.

I wish Bird NEVER got hurt with his back... I mean how hard he played on the boards, passing in the half court, getting off a shot, quickness with the hands, solid in the post, automatic at the line, great at drawing fouls, great moving off the ball, and clutch while being able to back up his talk and could hold his own versus the best defenders...Bird just understood and didn't buy into stereotypes and just let fools be fools while not playing into the hype. The thing is when Bird lost he always was realistic about it and looked at 'the game' as 'the game'.
