  • Hydro Dipping or HydroGraphics, also known as immersion printing, water transfer printing, water transfer imaging, hydro dipping or cubic printing, is a method of applying printed designs to three-dimensional surfaces. The hydrographic process can be used on metal, plastic, glass, hard woods, and various other materials

    These videos are so strangely therapeutic. There's just something so satisfying about watching the objects drift slowly into the water and reemerge with perfectly symmetrical patterns.

    What amazes me is the transformation between the two dimensional plane of paint and the three dimensional object. You can barely see any stretching of the paint pattern.

    That's the beauty of Hydrodipping, also known as Water Transfer Printing/Immersion Printing/Cubic Printing etc. Before we started experimenting with hydrographics, I was also like you guys on UA-cam, stumbled across videos after videos of people from all over the world doing crazy pattern transformation on their items.. It took us a year to perfect this skill...Looks easy, but trust me, it isn't! Salute to HG Arts for being the leading provider of Water transfer Printing equipments!

      Was speaking about this printing technique to someone who repairs alloy wheels, he's been looking into this printing method. Another way to print, which allows you to apply to just specific areas of an object, is to spray the release agent only onto the sections of the object you want to apply the design to and then dipping. This means that you can target areas of an object for print, instead of floating the design, spraying the whole sheet with release agent and dipping. I'm sure both techniques have their advantages... Apparently a decent sized item can be printed (wholesale costs) for about £20-25! Only need a few grand to get started.

    Seems like an automated lowering system would be ideal for absolute consistency... While this "dipper" seems very skilled, a mechanized lowering system would ensure 100% smooth coverage. But then again...I guess a mechanized version wouldn't be able to adjust to a problem mid-dip...Hmmmmm...

    • @Random2381
      @Random2381 10 років тому +2

      Being a Tattoo artist myself, I worry one day i'll be replaced by a machine...having said that, I was trying to imply that I'm surprised this hasn't become completely mechanized yet....via game consoles, computer shells, interior car parts, cell phone cases, etc... I just thought it would have been completely picked up by the industrial sector, thats all.

      Julian Owens The auto industry, they use to have exclusive rights to this product. All the vehicles you seen with brushed aluminum or wood looking plastic, this is how they did it. Now it's no longer exclusive and people can buy there own pattern's on places like ebay.

    • @eleckson
      @eleckson 9 років тому +5

      Sandman1832 "The auto industry" didn't figure this out. "The auto industry" is not a person. The first hydrographic printing apparatus registered for a US patent was by Motoyasu Nakanishi of Kabushiki Kaisha Cubic Engineering on Jul 26, 1982.

    • @Sandman1832
      @Sandman1832 9 років тому +2

      Morgan_Fucking_Freeman Motoyasu Nakanishi was NOT the person who patent or created the hydrographics itself. The only thing he had done was create a means to make a machine or apparatus that printed hydrographics and patented the apparatus. Hydrographics itself have been around LONG before he did this. They use to use oil based paints and other means in water and dip things in it such as guitars and other things. It has been exclusive to the auto industry and other company's. It did not come available to the public until about 5 or 6 years ago, maybe not even that long ago. Now people can purchase the equipment if they desire, to print there own graphics as well Here is the exact history of it.
      The exact origin of the water transfer printing process is unclear. However, the first hydrographic apparatus registered for a US patent was by Motoyasu Nakanishi of Kabushiki Kaisha Cubic Engineering on Jul 26, 1982. Its abstract reads [a] printing apparatus provided with a structure which supplies a transcription film into a transcription tub containing a liquid so that the transcription film is kept afloat on the liquid, a structure which makes the liquid flow in a direction in which the film is supplied, and a structure which slantingly immerses an article to be printed into the liquid in the transcription tub from an upstream position to a downstream position of the liquid.

    that's the same way I marble papers. Also nail polish marbleizing is cool works best if you apply glue & dry it on the area around nails so its easier to clean up off your skin
