What a wonderful video Kurt! I love these kinds of videos. You had some great hand splitting footage, bushcraft and cooking and the sounds of nature. Me and Carter plan to do some more of these as well. Seeing this makes me want to sooner than later. Hope to see more my friend, very enjoyable to watch! 👍🤝🪓
Gday mate, cheers! Was a fun overnight, just wish I could have got some choppin in the next day. Hope you get the chance, be cool to see some camping in your neck of the woods. Thanks again!👍👍🪓🪵
Thanks Tim, I appreciate that mate. Times are definitely difficult for a lot of people at the moment. Being lucky enough to find the odd peaceful minute can help a lot
The spatula is a work of art. We are all lucky to see it's transformation into a fork. Elegant. I know that meal was good as hell. Makes me think of the tie hacks of Wyoming. They had to eat real good to do all that work. I imagine they'd be very happy with this meal.
Another great video mate! Some good splitting, great feed and a great fire! That leech looked like it had its fill of someone, full of blood and rolled away.
All that effort swinging the maul just to see it bounce would have me in tears Love the natural environment you're in and your videography captures it spot on - thank you for sharing
Right on Kurt! I love going on low tech camping trips like that never better! I don't know about that inch worm man he looked a little bloodthirsty to me😂! Looking forward to the 3.5lb hytest and cockatoo!
Cheers Chimmy, low tech is the go! I'd love to see a camping trip from your neck of the woods. Haha yeah the little sucker got me! Hoping to get to the axe test soon. Thanks mate👍👍🪓
kurt! awesome videos bro! i like your style! after binge watching your vids im definitely looking forward to getting me a tassie pattern... when im working in the shop i go to your channel and hit play all haha!! the forest sounds along with you bucking, felling, chopping, splitting... thats my kind of white noise... love your content kurt! Thanks for sharing!
Wicked meal man made my mouth water🤤🤤lamb over fire is elite🤙🤙🤙. Nothing like a good solo camp trip out bush even if the mozzies' are thick AF. That fork build was genius 🤣🤣🤣 will be sure to try this next time. Dried roo ,wombat , sheep or cow shit burnt on the campfire does wonders for keeping the mozzies away. Sweet video dude keep them coming.
Haha thanks mate! No cattle in this forest but I actually went for a walk up the road lookin for some roo pellets and couldn't find a single one! Ended up throwing some turpentine bark on there a few times thru the night. Yep can't beat Aussie lamb over a fire! 👍👍🪓🔥
Thanks for checkin it out mate! The knife's one of my own builds, thin 15N20 with silky oak scales and a simple kydex sheath. Become a favourite for camp cooking. Cheers! 👍👍🪓🔪
Hey Kurt, Great vid of a good ol' Campfire and a cookup in the bush. A nice change to just chill around the fire. Too bad bout the battery. Do another one and get some chopping in as well as the other stuff. Some nice photography as well. Makes me wanna get out there myself. Living in the City drives me crazy sometimes... Well done again mate.👍🙂
Gday Peter, glad you liked it mate. I did end up filming a bit with a phone the next day but that footage is doing something loopy on the computer, I'll try to get it sorted. Definitely need to get some chopping happening soon though! I know what you mean about the city. Have you got any hidden outdoor spots nearby?
Haha yeah I'd show the toolbox one day but I'd probably get in trouble, lots of sharp things lol. And cookin gear. Yep the water jug mounted under the tray is just an old chemical drum with a tap in it, comes in handy for washing gear and there's another one for drinking water.
Love the way you capture the light in your videos. I just picked up a used Allagash Cruiser 2.5 wedge axe. It is on a 30 inch handle which feels to long, but I really like the versatility of the head. Great splitter, and wedge pounder. Decent feller and limber.
Thanks mate. Those wedge patterns are cool, definitely versatile, ive been eyeing off the B&C version for a while now. Mines a bit soft to put a proper chopping edge on unfortunately but the Cruiser looks great. Cheers for watching👍👍🪓
Geeze Kurt, you're never going to get sponsored by the new gen outdoor fashion gear shops camping like that! Life's better when it's simple. Looked like a great night and I was jealous of your cooking. Maybe we need a bit of a whip round and buy you a titanium spork?? 🙂 Love your stuff mate, take care. PP
Haha yeah mate simple is the go! I did fancy-up a few weeks back and grab a titanium plate but she's still sitting unused in the toolbox 😁 thanks for watching mate 👍 👍🥩🪓🪵
Awesome video mate! I feel like I've had a holiday just watching. Great fire and food. Interesting knife that you were using for food prep...were you the bladesmith?
@@brettbrown9814 gday Brett haha glad to help! Cheers mate yep that's one of my blades, it's 2.5mm, 15N20 with with G10 liners, silky oak scales and sabre-vex grind. Pretty much just made for butchering and food prep👍👍🪓 🔪 🥩
Flickin with a maul ... Yes indeed... i have a lot to learn. What is the grind angle of your maul??? My apologies for the newbie questions.... but you make it look like the wood explodes...i know its more than grind angles... But this Florida wood is killing me .... Again thank you and much Respect from St Petersburg Florida..... 15:11
Gday mate, cheers for watching, much appreciated, and anything I can help with I'll try. Yep u can flick with a maul with practice, if your just getting started it's probably easier with an axe both because it's lighter and also the flatter handle shape and palm swell. Flicking with a rounder sledge-type handle can take some getting used to, plus the heavier weight. The maul I'm using is an old Aussie made Cyclone Blocksplitter, it's a 6lb, 32° wedge with a 45° secondary bevel. Made for splitting crazy wood. Cheers mate!👍👍🪓
@kurts64 Thank you Brother.... Much needed info... I am 61yrz... Got started kinda late... Been choppin bout a year... So much to learn But I love it... and will not give up. Again... my deepest appreciation for your time and knowledge. I have done alot of research...and studying.... And you my Friend are at the top of your game....Again thank you... Just curious... how long have you been choppin??? Again apologies for the off the wall questions...
Priceless information....Yes Sir.... thank you Kurt.... New Sub here for sure.... One more thing.... are your knives for sale... and do you do custom builds???...I hope I am not being a pain....
@@willcarmack1242 thanks a lot for the kind words mate. Good on you for taking up the axe, it's good for both body and mind and never too late to learn. Focus on safety first, and all the other stuff will fall in to place. I got introduced to edge tools and outdoors, hunting as a kid, and the last almost 20 years worked in the bush. Invasive weed control, felling/pruning, firewood, fencing, land and trail clearing, occasional butchering, so luckily get to swing an axe, machete etc most days. Knife making I don't get to do much of these days mate but I appreciate your asking, cheers mate! 👍👍🪓 And thanks for the sub!

Bloody tassie weather, it'll change in 5 minutes though! 🤣 cheers for watching mate, hope you get a break and get out there👍👍🪓
I’ve posted a comment like this on a bunch of Kurt’s videos, but I have no clue how this channel has under 1K subs.

Ooh yeah fired spuds are the go! I reckon I'll do that next chance I get👍👍🪓
