I own a Veloster and none of what u said regardless of negatives is not true. Its very economical, handles well all road surfaces and if you are not a race driver it will suit your needs just fine
The base model (not turbo) gets an average of about 35 between city/highway. If you opt for a turbo you will likely see something along the lines of 31 or 32 despite the claims. I have owned both models.
I own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster dual clutch and I love it, shes been working like a beauty since day one the DUAL CLUTCH is so amazing because in automatic it has a nice shift mechanism 🦖 I also installed a K&N Cool Air Intake that was $312 and it added so much horsepower and a melodic purr! I wouldn’t trade anything for this car! Its also a great conversation starter when meeting new people! The seats are also very awesome!
GREAT review as always Mat the jury's out on soft touch plastics. I live in the tropics and soft touch plastics do not hold up at all. The foam underneath degrades and causes lumps or the outer surface unsticks and cracks. Hard plastic holds up much better here. So in terms of longevity, this Veloster's dash and trimmings will look way better in years to come. Oddly enough tho, the handful of asian cars with soft touch hold up well. I guess the Europeans need to do more tropical quality testing
I agree, CarBuyer reviews the car as what its meant for and what most people actually care about like practicality and fuel economy. The other two treat everything as it is supposed to be a ferrari or other super car
Would have been nice if they had added a 4th door, not that I mind the 3 door setup but I just think its unnecessary, performance may not be up there with other SPORT hatchbacks but doesn't mean the car is slow, its performance is really good and especially on high way considering its an eco car by design, which is what I'm looking for, the turbo model may pack 200hps as opposed to the base 140hps but all that means nothing if you drive in a city with lots of other cars and you never really go above 120kmh on average, maybe if you live on the country side where there is no traffic but lol who are we kidding, imo in my situation not worth the extra 6 grand let alone the increased insurance and increased petrol consumption, just for an extra 2 or 3 seconds on the 0-60mph scale, I think the base model performans well enough and looks just as sexy and contains lots of neat equipment in the cockpit. The only concern I have with the car is the back seats, I don't have many tall friends and yes the car is technically a coupe, but considering I want to keep the car for atleast 10 years before upgrading to a sedan it would have been nice to have comfortable back seats just in case, who knows maybe there is a way for me to lower the back seats by a mod shop by 5cm or 4cm, not gonna hold my breath though, anyone despite the flaws I love the car, gonna pick it up at some point in march next year, because its either this or a Alfa Rome Giuletta (although my friends have shown strong oppositions of me getting that car and most prefer the veloster haha)
thank god they decided to put a turbo on this car i test drove both and hated the non-turbocharged one. i did some mods to mine too and it made me fall in love with my veloster even more!
My brother has this car but the turbo version in Ghana very, very good car drives but problem is whenever we travel to Ghana for holiday there’s always problem with the suspension tires etc meaning costs a lot for repairs, idk maybe something to do with the roads
Very Nice car, Love it & it has a lot of character. the 1.6L GDI is great on acceleration, but I believe the UK Velo has the 1.6L MPFI which is like 17hp less. Sporty thru the bends and on long cruises it's great. The seats are perfect in holding you in the corners and comfy enough for the long cruise ahead. Not sure about what wind noise he was talking about though.
These reviews can get pretty humorous. I just watched one before this where the reviewer said the seats sucked - gave him an aching back in 12 minutes.
How're you finding it? The ridge along the back window looks like it might effect reversing visibility. And is it really that gutless when overtaking? Thanks :)
Everything is good, personally it doesn't affect me reversing. Plus came with a camera. The only think is that when I'm slowing down it shake a little bit. Don't know is that ok
I have a 2013 veloster tech package canadian version, I have to say it's got some punch, had no problem getting to 200kph and it was smooth even at that speed. has to be the best car i've driven under 30k
I think this car looks stunning, i just saw it in the street and i was like thats a smart car i wonder what make it is! then i find out its a Hyundai and im like woah! that's pretty good!
Haha, I'm a loyal SaabKyle Subscriber. I think what really matters is what someone's personal needs are and what qualities they want in a car. A lot of people just want something smooth and comfy that's good on gas. Probably why small cars, hybrids, and diesels are popular. And yes, the interior is more important IMO. What's the point of having a nice looking car if all the controls are illogical and nothing makes sense on how to control things?
Uhhhh, how about instead saying, "Oh, my god! I'm short a door!" you compare it to a TWO-door care and say, "Wow, thank goodness there's an extra door!"
tengo un veloster, amo este auto con diseño de superdeportivo, se siente caro su conducción y calidad de materiales, consume poco, su motor emite un lindo sonido al pisar el acelerador, AMO al Hyundai Veloster!
Everyone that bought this version was so sad when the VT came out. Then, the R spec. Now the N..hey atleast you can tune the VT or R spec for cheap. I got a 2013 VT. Do the intake and 3in down pipe. Then a tune. Less than 600 dollars american, and about 40 whp gain. You can't beat that. Plenty of fun with those few bolt ons and mods.
Let's look at it this way: A Hyundai veloster with an auto box and a 1.6 l engine costs 140000 nis. A Seat Leon with a 1.8 l turbocharged engine but a manual costs 119000 nis. Which would you pick?
i own the veloster and i think the reason why theres only 4 seats is because if there was someone of avg height sitting in the middle, there wouldnt be that much visibility to the rear window
Yea, i heard it was something like that 1 to 8 or 1 to 10. Plus i think that's the joy of the GT86/BRZ you can push the car to it's limits while not being too much danger :) The brakes are crap, which is a shame, but i would've thought that's because of the narrow tyres. I'm not surprised the materials are crap, in my country it's slightly more expensive than a corolla or impreza, and on top of that, toyota and subaru aren't known for their material quality hahaha
I agree they already integrated the handle aesthetically into the car design why not just make it a four door! I like the grill of the turbo so much better they should just have the regular Veloster like that instead.
@lakeb0dom The Veloster concept was presented in 2007, DS3 in 2010!!!, "AlfaRomeo door handles" or you mean "Seat Leon handles" or "Chevy Aveo/Spark handles" or maybe "Citroen DS4 handles"?
Honda: oh yeah we have so many fan's Hyundai: FUCK. Honda is still better then us! hmmm.. wait i have a plan >:) lets build a new car! Honda: - reads the newspaper - wut oh no Hyundai will make a new Sport's car with 4 doors! Hyundai: there it is our new Hyundai Veloster! Fan's: omg that Hyundai Veloster is soooo cool! Honda: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Hyundai: LETS PARTY!!!!!
They are improving ALOT.. but they still have minor imperfections... the Genesis Coupes have alot of transmission issues and there are fitment issues across all of Hyundai's lineup... But like I said, they've got a LONG way...Despite the issues I got a Genesis Coupe anyways b/c they're just beautiful..
The best reviewer ). I don’t need my testosterone tweaked by Clarkson's sad old boys and their 200mph silly cars. This guy keeps it light, fun and informative with plenty of opinions.
I currently own a Renault clio 2001 authentique and claimed mpg is 46 I really like the veloster but am unsure of the mpg? Can someone give me their opinion please :)
@Iron883Man Nope.avi It also totally lost to Renault Megane coupe and Opel Astra GTC in an autobild test. @MrMadpenguin Playing the devils advocate here, but I don't think the majority of Top Gears audience tune in for car buying advice. To start, they mostly 'review' exotic cars which is out of most people's budget. This review is very good and presents his information in a very concise, short and to the point method.
I don't think it's that sad... It's all about economies of scale, making the cars cheaper while also trying to maximise quality; imagine how poor the UI development would be if every different car had a separate head unit and UI. It's also about branding the car and differentiating your brand. It's familiarity between cars, that make it easier to convince someone who previously purchased an entry-level model to buy a more expensive model, or the same model again.

I can't pinpoint what it is, but when I saw it in real life it looked gorgeous.
Just saw one for the first time right now, thought the exact same thing
@@Marco-oe9rt same here just yesterday absolute beauty of a car
I love the "bubble butt"😂 The design is so satisfying
I own a Veloster and none of what u said regardless of negatives is not true. Its very economical, handles well all road surfaces and if you are not a race driver it will suit your needs just fine
nikolia f i want to buy one and i dont like to drive fast . what can you tell me about the ⛽ use
The base model (not turbo) gets an average of about 35 between city/highway.
If you opt for a turbo you will likely see something along the lines of 31 or 32 despite the claims.
I have owned both models.
infntnub ok thanks
how economical it is ? can you explain please?
thanks man great to know just got one of these today used for about 9k usd great ride for city driving to work and back imo
I admit, I was impressed by this little hatchback. It seems to have a tough character for it's little size.
The 3rd door is a nice touch.
The seats are also very awesome!

funny....I never knew that was actually 3 door 😂 Everytime I see it I just think ohh there must be a 2 door and a foor door model
There is a 4 door version thought I’d let u know by now
I agree, CarBuyer reviews the car as what its meant for and what most people actually care about like practicality and fuel economy. The other two treat everything as it is supposed to be a ferrari or other super car

Just got the Veloster Turbo R Spec edition last week. SO much better than an original veloster
thank god they decided to put a turbo on this car i test drove both and hated the non-turbocharged one. i did some mods to mine too and it made me fall in love with my veloster even more!
Thank you Matt for being the only reviewer and only person on all of UA-cam to listen to us.
Keep up the good work.
My dad owns one of those and I agree with you! It's a fun car to cruse around, but if talking about acceleration it's not powerful enough
That is precisely why I bought one.
its awesome he listens to his viewers who wanted a review of this
My brother has this car but the turbo version in Ghana very, very good car drives but problem is whenever we travel to Ghana for holiday there’s always problem with the suspension tires etc meaning costs a lot for repairs, idk maybe something to do with the roads
Rented 1 for 2 weeks with double clutch gearbox and it was joyfully to drive on twisty mountains road

I have a 2013 veloster tech package canadian version, I have to say it's got some punch, had no problem getting to 200kph and it was smooth even at that speed. has to be the best car i've driven under 30k
I have one in white I adore my veloster it's quick good and fuel has lots of gismos I have the GDI sport media pack great car
one of the best veloster review on youtube. keep it up mate!
Guy does a proper review in under five mins. nice...
I'm only here because I saw one yesterday (August 2021) and I caught my eye as a nice looking car.
I think this car looks stunning, i just saw it in the street and i was like thats a smart car i wonder what make it is! then i find out its a Hyundai and im like woah! that's pretty good!
Carbuyer is starting to upload suggested cars from previous reviews. Mat is listening to us!
the turbo version is coming guys
Why they design just one backdoor?
Thanks for the wonderful review, Veloster is pretty gorgeous for her size.
Two words: pillarless doors!
Can't have a sporty coupe without them.
I do to live in the tropic but I kinda love VW and this car as well... do you know any way to get rid of this plastic problem?
Haha, I'm a loyal SaabKyle Subscriber. I think what really matters is what someone's personal needs are and what qualities they want in a car. Matt has come along way

In nepal it cost almost $80k n average salary of neplese are $ 2k annually, ha ha dream car
@Sea Edu canada cost 18k new..
Top Gear is a show. Fifth Gear is a show. Mat is the REAL DEAL!

3:05 THat shape reflecting off the window scared the crap out of me!
The 2014 version is out and it has led lights in the cup holders and minor changes... Hope they make 2015 with only 2 doors
OMG.. you are so right!!!
What can we do to make veloster to improve=.=?
i just bought it=.=
well an easy way to improve it would be adding the 4th door , bcuz honestly it looks like shit with 2 doors in one side and 1 in the other
From a distance 99% of random people walking by your car wont even know there is a 3rd door...
Anybody else see the face in the fog on the side window?
Is this avaliable at all Europian countries?
I agree they already integrated the handle aesthetically into the car design why not just make it a four door! I like the grill of the turbo so much better they should just have the regular Veloster like that instead.

How is the performance of this compared to the Volvo C30 1.6 diesel?
why don`t you make a review of hyunday genisis coupe?
why is the door on the wrong side?
Please carbuyer, review the Dacia Duster when it arrives in the UK in 2012
@carbuyer please make a review about the 3 door version of the fiesta.
An interesting alternative
Honda: oh yeah we have so many fan's
Hyundai: FUCK.
Honda: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hyundai: LETS PARTY!!!!!
i think hyundai needs to redeisgn their logo. All car companies do it at some stage, i think now is the perfect time to do so.
They are improving ALOT.. but they still have minor imperfections... the Genesis Coupes have alot of transmission issues and there are fitment issues across all of Hyundai's lineup...
But like I said, they've got a LONG way...Despite the issues I got a Genesis Coupe anyways b/c they're just beautiful..
the 2011-present Volkswagen Veloster is assembled in
Ulsan, South Korea
will you please do a review on the Nissan 370Z coupe 2011 3 door version? i am really interested about that car. thank you!
The best reviewer ). I don’t need my testosterone tweaked by Clarkson's sad old boys and their 200mph silly cars.
This guy keeps it light, fun and informative with plenty of opinions.
omg that is my first and only car its gorgeous 10/10 thx carbuyer
I currently own a Renault clio 2001 authentique and claimed mpg is 46 I really like the veloster but am unsure of the mpg? Can someone give me their opinion please :)
Can you please review the Volkswagen sharan
2:31 There is mummys face on the window
Why would the not make a five door car?
I mean what other things can they fit in the door space?
Yes its cheaper to make but not as handy to use.
Brought a N love it
please do a review on ..veloster turbo..
Nice car with unique body designed. I love it. The interior also looks beautiful and also it's exterior with sporty view
ever drove recent hyundais? or do you just hate them coz they dont have hyundais with manual gearbox in israel?
You're so lucky! What color?
Hyundai is rising again i am telling you. Its cars don't have problems and the styling is getting better every day.
1 + For Hyundai
@10tenable specifically the DS3's face and the Alfa Romeo concealed rear door handles.
yes there is a shape on the window look like a ghost, i think it's because of the water vapor
Have you even owned one? :( VW is like germany's toyota, very very solid and reliable with modest styling. Respect it for that.
@Iron883Man Nope.avi
It also totally lost to Renault Megane coupe and Opel Astra GTC in an autobild test.
I mentioned the track, because on track you can explore the handling limites and what a car is like to drive as opposed to being a small journalist who can't really push it on a tight twisty road for obvious reasons.
You can review Vauxhall Zafira Tourer...or Audi A5...
someone give this man a job on TopGear!
I just copped one today
@Iron883Man Just for the record, your argument goes against the experienced team of Autobild testers who compared the Megane coupe vs the CR-Z and the Veloster in tens of categories, gathered massive amounts of data, analysed them and gave more than sufficient justification for their final placement. You simple first impressions go against all of that.
@sspope Good / bad car isn't a sum of gathered data during a 2 week test period. It's driving a car for longer then a few weeks. it's sooo sad that in the u.s. we don't get the automatic climate control nor the power seats.... this car would have been perfect.
I don't think it's that sad... It's all about economies of scale, making the cars cheaper while also trying to maximise quality; imagine how poor the UI development would be if every different car had a separate head unit and UI. Woohoo!! Finally! Veloster! Thanks Carbuyer =D
I've driven one on a closed. I was impressed by the gearbox, but for sure, the engine is completely gutless. I'm not too sure about the rear styling, though...
@MacGyver920 Yes... I am listening ;-)
If anyone cares, (Americans maybe), this vehicle was designed AND engineered at Hyundai's Design and Engineering Center in Irvine, California>>>>>>>
@TheSRalston in left hand market the door is in the other side
Even Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda started off at the bottom and had to work their way up. They still make mistakes today. Hyundai and Kia are no different. Actually autobild the german magazine preffered veloster for a scirocco and i think veloster deserves it :D
About the materials, he said that peugeot 207 has good quality materials, ok the materials are soft very soft but after 2 years of a sunny country makes that materials crack ect. i drive a 207 too by the way, so what i am trying to say is: Softness is not everything!
damnnn!! what did he say at the beginning???
Like this a lot! You show it's better than I thought!
I just buy one and I love it 😀

Hyundai are actually offering this as an alternative to the Scirocco and the Astra GTC. I thought they supposedly got their act together
