I like the JT8D engines on the MD80. No other engine has a cooler spool-up sound which transitions to a nice buzz saw when takeoff thrust is applied! As much as I like the Boeing 737, the MD80 has character... and the seating is more comfortable as well. The new 737 MAX, while being more fuel efficient, sounds like an electric leaf blower when it takes off. :)
awesome vid! pretty light load on that flight, eh? the takeoff roll was short as hell and ya'll got to the 1,000ft agl flap retract and acceleration b4 the end of runway! thats an S80 ZOOM climb!
Well, for the majority of airplane videos I've uploaded I used the video recorder in my Motorola Droid Maxx phone. There are 2 other videos, one of a Southwest 737-700 departing Little Rock and the other of the same flight arriving at Dallas Love Field that I used a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera.
Phillip Branch As far as I could see, both video cameras are awesome, plus one of ur cameras is a PRO Nikon, so it's synonym of high quality. I really appreciate your answer. Thanks!.
John, I'll be sad to see the "Mad Dog" go as well. I think AA plans to have them gone by sometime on 2017. I actually find the MD a more comfortable aircraft to travel in than a 737.
This video is by far one of the best videos on youtube for amazing engine sound. Do you happen to remember the registration #? I'm pretty sure this is a legacy AA MD-82. Awesome video!
No, I didn't get a good look at the registration number. Sorry. I'll be sad to see the MD-80 series disappear. They are good, reliable, and dependable aircraft!
@@phillipbranch8291 Ah it's all good, after all this video was published in 2014 which was already 4 years ago, I didn't expect you to remember it. Yeah it's a shame and I well agree with you!
@@gabesuper80 I prefer flying on the MD-80 series to a 737. Not near as squeezed in. Delta still has a good number of MD-80's in service but they'll begin withdrawing them from service in the next few years. Douglas built some really good aircraft in their time. Have you seen a you tube video entitled "Racing the storm: The crash of AA 1420?" I well remember the night it went down at the Little Rock airport.
Amazing sound of old engines.. But anyway tu154 and tu134 is better:) thanx for nice video.. I would make it a little bit longer till the cruise flight level
Yes, I noticed that those Pratt & Whitney JT8Ds make a unique noise when rolling out for takeoff, kind of a throbbing sound. The MD-80 is in the process of being phased out of service by American Airlines and I wanted to get one last trip on one before they are phased out and replaced by A319s.
Andrew Green This looks like seat 27A, the furthest back you can go in an AA MD-80 on the left side (2 seats) without your view being blocked by the engine.
To think in a matter of a years we'll be watching this video with fond memories....I'll miss the the old Mad Dog Super 80!!
I miss the Boeing 727!
Awesome sound at takeoff! And love the old mirror-polished steel reflecting the sky on the wings...
the MD-80 is an awesome airplane, and I am going to miss it. It is such a classic.
AJ Freeman , I'm going to miss it as well. A very good, dependable aircraft.
Love the sound of those MD80’s. Kind of like an older model vacuum cleaner sound. I really miss them.
THE AA SUPER MD-80 WAS QUITE A "WORK HORSE" FOR A LONG TIME. RELIABLE AND COMFORTABLE. THANK YOU!
MD-80 will be missed! From the passenger prospective it was very comfortable and the Windows were big and easy to see out of!
I love love love this plane, so sad to know that these are going away. My favorite plane in the sky!
I love the “old” livery
Me too!
I prefer flying on an MD-80 over a 737!
+Phillip Branch Much more exciting than the 737!

MD-80 is my favorite airplane.
Mine too! it breaks my heart to see so many headed for the scrap yard!
Great quality sir!!
Thank you very much!
0:50 That startup though...
"We have ignition!"
Love the mad dog 80
Nice View
The MD80 is classical Plane
The Super 80
It's nice to see the old AA livery.
Isn't it though?
Cool Takeoff
And Climb
Love the Super 80!
That engine is Loud! Last time my ears started hurting!
bestpilot98, it was a very lightly loaded flight. I'm going to miss the MD-80. It's a good, reliable aircraft and well built.
Its the same route that flight AA1420 took on the night of june 1st 1999.
8:15
8:30 That buzz is the best part.
6:36 Tri MD80 Party😎😎😎😎
Yes it is.
Andrew, I think it was either 27 or 26A.
Hi, what camera did you use to record this awesome video?, The high quality of this recording really catched my attention!:

Phillip Branch True, even though it was acouple of years ago I flew on this aircraft, I still remember it being very relaxing and comfortable.
+Phillip Branch you will have to fly Delta to get on them as they have no plans to retire theirs.
Yeah. I've noticed. Delta has always been a fan of Douglas aircraft.

@@phillipbranch8291 Me too, especially for engine sound. Yep and agreed. I have seen that video, it's sad.
I love it MD-80 and it was gone!

How long was your flight?
"God what a GREAT cache" !!!!!!!!!!!!!
at 11:07, I could see my old neighborhood
8:10 Takeoff Roll
Good Video Dude
I make a Like
And over Wing AWESOME
Aircraft Lover 6000, if you liked this video there's a companion video on here when this aircraft lands in Little Rock that you'll like as well.
Phillip Branch
Thanks dude
I don't mind, Galen.
That was a fast takeoff. I bet the pilot lifted off using only 3-4000 feet of runway
We were lightly loaded passenger wise. I miss the "Mad Dog."
Tyler, it was a 45 minute flight.
What seat it is?
27A or 28A. I can't remember exactly but it's one of those two seats.
what seat
Andrew Green This looks like seat 27A, the furthest back you can go in an AA MD-80 on the left side (2 seats) without your view being blocked by the engine.
Flight 1420 crashed during landing in Little Rock in 1999
Was an MD80
Yes, it was. I remember when it happened. There is a youtube video recreating the crash.
Go on youtube and search "Racing the storm." It's a computer recreation of the AA crash in Little Rock in 1999.
Flying is a nice thing but many Poeple don,t like it
