Why did Picard season 3 work so well? Because of the characters. Even when the story lacks, they can save it because they're that well-written. Gonna miss Captain Shaw. He was such a great addition.
I really liked Shaw. I almost shouted when he died.
I screamed when he got shot. He was a terrific addition to the cast and a terrific character arc.
He propped up Seven and contributed to her growth and eventual promotion.
Is this a joke? Are you serious? This was the dumbest character ever written. Senseless actions and confusing statements.

@@burntsauce9136 He had potential. I wish they would kill off Raffi Musiker. The most annoying and pointless character on the show. When her scene comes up, I have to fast forward.
The classic characters worked but also the format .
Filming it as a big movie worked . Putting dynamic cliffhangers at end of every show worked also
Watching the last episode of Picard was frankly emotional for me. I felt like it was going to be the last time I would see these characters on screen together. When I was growing up my home life wasn't that great. We moved a lot, turmoil, and I eventually ended up in foster care.
To me Picard, Riker, LaForge, Worf, Troi, Crusher, and Data were sometimes my only friends, and family I had. I couldn't talk to them, but what they represented and the stories told made me feel like they knew me. I will miss them even more now as an adult that understands what they were to me then. I wish them all the best, as they gave me all the hope as a child.

My parents divorced and my dad went through a rough patch with alcohol. However the next generation was like a warm blanket every night when I watched it. When I close my eyes I can still feel every detail of the room that I watched the show in. Farewell team. It's bittersweet
13:43 Yes, we need more positive male, father / son dynamics. Growing up in the 80s/90s, Picard was actually the main male role model for me on TV. I wanted to be like him. There are so few characters like Picard on TV today. Hopefully, this will change for the better.

As I understand it, he was a major factor in the creation of Picard seasons 1 and 2.
I've heard him in other interviews. I think he's easily dismissible as a person.
His ORIGINAL incarnation of the Picard character during TNG had some superb moments.
Of course I don't know the details of what happened, but I also believe he ruined some of TNG prior to season 3.
In my opinion, the best Star Trek father is Benjamin Sisko. No contest there.

While I agree with the male role models, Star Trek has ALWAYS been MALE oriented with EXCELLENT role models for MALES while the women who are portrayed as competent and professional have often been there as eye candy until DS9. This changed with DS9 and Voyager, but the old format was returned in Enterprise. Discovery finally broke the mold. Your comment ignores the fact that a) Picard NEVER wanted to be a father which made the interaction with Jack look forced and b) that Data, Riker and Geordie are better parents than Picard will ever be while Sisko puts all of them to shame. What's worse is how daughters are treated in P3. Jack Crusher treats Alandra LaForge as his personal dessert with little regard for her person other than sexual. Meanwhile, Troi and Riker are so much in grief that their daughter Kestra is literally and figuratively kicked to the curb and barely mentioned. Just poor writing on so many levels. I won't go into the fact that Picard, Riker, Data, Shaw, Jack, Beverly, Seven and Vadic as leads made this season of Picard the WHITEST EVER returning the series to the 90s where POC where background characters and secondary roles. That there was no secondary reader or proofer to actually call this out lead to a mostly white cast shooting at Black and Brown actors in Episodes 9-10. Just horrible. And when I point this out, I am told to go watch Discovery because TNG/Picard was made for us aka white males. Just wrong on so many levels. We were banged over the head for seven years about what a great person Jean-Luc Picard was, but P3 made him into a "victim" while many people ask themselves how Jean-Luc didn't contact Beverly or find out where she was in 20 years. No on so many levels.
Having grown up with TNG this was the perfect send of to old friends. It was very emotional for me. I cried. A lot! Given the age of the cast I wouldn’t think that they would want to get into any contracts. If the new series does go ahead I am sure they might cameo. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. TNG will always have a special place in my heart. From collecting comics and cards to re decorating my room into a Starfleet dorm. Dressing up as a Bajoran cadet learning all the technical Enterprise specifications from the technical manual, to How to Host a Mystery nights with “space food” with friends. TNG is the best part of my life.
That brought memories :) I, honestly will say, there are some stories that could still be told. The cast and crew want to continue, and if the stories can be just like this, I say, Make It So.
Perfect ending. If they stopped here it does the series justice.

This is the true send off the Enterprise D deserves: to be laid to rest at the Fleet Museum, where she can be admired by countless people for generations to come. You deserve better than being crashed and abandoned on some lonely planet, rusting exposed to the elements...no. I'm so glad the old ship had one last adventure, and to exit with dignity.
It’s not really weird to anyone that this isn’t The D or Picard? I mean cannon wise none of the other galaxy class ships look alike on the inside. I don’t know, can’t turn off my brain.

@@alejandronopasanada5302 It's still the D's saucer section. What I thought was weird was how the bridge looked like it did pre-Generations for nostalgia's sake. It's all modular in this world, and I'm sure they reused the D's original bridge module (at least, that's my head canon).

A world where Mandalorian became the best thing Star Wars had to offer (at the time) is already pretty crazy in my book.
No doubt, crazy! This season of Mando sucked and Picard was actually genuinely good and I hate new trek.
Exactly how I felt. Picard beat Mando this season. Paramount should totally give Terry his own show or even control over Trek itself.

Data was great. I cried seeing him show so much emotion and going with his gut. I love seeing Data with emotions finally.
Dude, I legit started sobbing when he came back. I love everything they did, but that scene, by far is my favorite, and just having the character BACK.

Data commanded the entire ship by himself from one rear bridge station in the series. The Galaxy class can be crewed by very few people as long as there aren't any issues.
Chief O'brien came up with rewriting altered DNA in the transporter to cure Pulaski of her disease in season 2. So it was his concept that Beverly must have used to expand upon to make it fleet wide.
Of course O'Brien saved the day.

That's why they didn't have him in the series: he'd have had it all worked out and sorted by episode 3.
Of course. Screening foreign bodies from the body with the transporter should have been standard operating procedure by the time of _TNG_ . Not doing so was responsible for the _Lesser Decks_ pilot. But of course, this would prevent several plots. Considering the central importance of the transporter system, they should have also regularly checked the systems for bugs and hacks, to prevent such schemes as what the Borg do here from ever happening, especially considering the frequency with which Starfleet seems to get hacked in modern media. Again, it's smart planning on the part of Starfleet if they did do this as part of their regular maintenance, but it also prevents the story from happening. Likewise, properly screening against people like Founders and Undine (Species 8472) from infiltrating your navy.
@@BNuts In the episode I mentioned with O'brien called Unnatural Selection he mentions the transporter keeps a record of all transmissions for security purposes. I guess Starfleet security didn't look at them, or maybe that is what made Ro suspicious. Or the changelings got to the logs. Either way some credit to the Chief would be nice from Starfleet.

I think the format helped this.
They filmed it like a big movie. Every episode ending on a dynamic cliffhanger.
It was frustrating as a fan to have that anxious anticipation to see the next show.
But that's a good thing, isn't it.

This season was occasionally dumb, but mostly fun to watch and competent. Incredible music and action scenes. Momma Borg looked cool.

Totally. From Data's cut and paste to Vadic's T1000 moment to the D's unveiling and handbrake turn over the heroes, those episodes will go down as the greatest hat trick of all time.

The entire script of the rise of Skywalker was put online.
I think the reason why nothing slipped is in part to the last 2 seasons being so atrocious that no one cared about season 3 enough to leak it.

@@kev30631 Several months ago, Levar Burton spilled the beans about the Enterprise D bridge being rebuilt. He was at a convention on stage and just started talking about it, like he forgot it was supposed to be hush-hush.

This show was *hot garbage* for over 2 seasons, but now suddenly season 3 overall feels like a love letter to TNG with the actors being on point as always

new writers. knowing hollywood the old writers/director got promoted and after having killed tng, and literally killed picard, they left it for someone else with a shoe string budget and we got this.
and i'm sure they are furious about it, here they are trying to kill Hollywood and this guy comes along and makes a good season with strong characters and tells a good story, and to make things worse he doesn't make the men incompetent idiots who are useless without a woman. what the hell is this guy thinking, if he keeps it up he will never work in that town again.
Alex Kurtzman got bored and pawned it off on "the help." Turns out "the help" knows an infinite amount more about how to make a good sci-fi show.
Alex "Franchise Killer" Kurtzman didn't touch season 3. THat's what. That MF'er is poison to everything he has ever touched from Fringe, to Spider-Man, to Star Trek....he's a piece of shit.
Terry Matalas needs to be given Kurtzman's job
They brought in writers who loved trek, but had their own vision of how it should be. Matalas worked on Voyager and Enterprise. He wanted to return to that universe for the fans.
No Barclay cameo, the season/series is ruined. Also, the Titan-A, which itself is a refit, being renamed the Enterprise-G is just insulting. The G should be a ship fresh off the line.
A _Ross_-class. It looks like the 25th-century update of the _Galaxy_-class.
Raffi was shoehorned into the series and was quite grating and to see her remain is - disappointing. Jack as No.1 learning from 7 of 9 would be so cool...
Yeah… I got tired of Raffi’s character in season 2. It seems she got so better in season 3. But yeah…she does seem "shoe-horned" in.
There was an episode in TNG in which they stated that the computer could take the Enterprise back to a Starbase by itself if it was necessary. I think the Enterprise can operate alone if its necessary, the resolution to M5's dilema might have been: The computer can, but lets not make human beings feel useless. Also in multiple ocasions you can see Starfleet ships raising shield alone and coming to red alert when they are attacked.
Honestly, Chekov passing off Spock's line as his own to his progeny feels very on-brand of him, considering how many of Earth's accomplishments he tried passing off as Russian-specific.
Or rather he liked it when Spock said it, and started using it himself as he was inspired by it. Not really stealing it for himself, but propagating it.
Everyone keeps saying it was a Spock line but I SWEAR I remember Kirk saying it.
The line works best in the original Klingon.
Kirk did recite the quote but he always gave Spock credit for saying it originally. Kirk to Saavik in Star Trek II: “As your teacher Mr. Spock is fond of saying” There are always possibilities”
Star Trek III when Kirk was talking to Sarek and he suddenly realizes that Spock transferred his Katra to Dr. McCoy: “There are always possibilities, Spock said.”
Ironically I can’t remember a single time when Spock delivered the infamous quote.

I loved how Troi had Enterprise hover overhead, as if she and the ship itself were saying "It's okay, we've got you."
Matalas did an excellent job of giving every character a way to shine in this season.
Since Sirtis now lives in London, I would think that she insisted Troi have a decent character arc to make the trip to LA worth it.
My favorite is the phaser/torpedo salvo Beverly dropped on the cube. Everyone looked at her and she says "A lots happened in the last 20 years". Brilliant

Star Trek Picard is only Season 3 for me, well done.. just binged watched and could not stop.... loved it.
The fact that jack still had his hair as a Borg speaks to a change in the assimilation process.
I love how they honored the actor who played chekov from the Chris pine Star Trek movies by naming the president after him
My biggest choked-up moment was when seven of nine was recommended to be promoted to Captain by Captain Shaw and it got to be tuvok of all people who got to promote her. Captain Shaw was my favorite character of this series and his ark with seven of nine was really well done.
Of the new characters? Definately. The dipshit from Chicago was great XD

@ki-roasted I wonder why they didn't bring her. I was fine with Tuvok though, he's my favorite Voyager character, so I'm a bit biased.
@ki-roasted Tuvok had also a great connection to Seven. Like the doctor and Janeway. But on a emotional way it had to be tuvok i think. Janeway raised a daughter, the Doctor had an equal, but Tuvok was her mentor

as someone that didn't watch seasons one and two, i have to say, thanks for getting me to watch season three. The last ten weeks have been a wonderful adventure, catching the ep, and then watching your recap. Thanks Dave, from Hal.
You made the right call.
I loved this episode. It was the perfect wrapping up of the entire cast. I never had so many moments of being almost choked up watching Star Trek. I expected Picard to not make it out of this episode due to all the foreshadowing. Terry Matalis does a beautiful job of getting the emotional beats right. I loved how this series wrapped up the cast's adventures. I am so happy this year's season was good, and played into fan service was terrific. I was nervous about this season because Discovery deviated too much from what I feel Gene Roddenbery's vision of Star Trek is/was. I am so glad this season wasn't a disappointment.

You loved this episode because you are easily entertained just like the rest of the idiot majority.
I am sick of the friggin' Borg! The storyline should have been more about the Dominion (including the Jem'hadar and Vorta) working with the Federation to stop the rogue changelings. But instead we have to once again involve the Borg who did nothing more than weaken and discredit the rogue changelings.
They should have brought O'Brian over from the station with a skeleton crew. I can 100% see him working at the museum with Geordie rebuilding old ships.
That was my thought too, O'Brien as part of a skeleton crew would have been better
You could do a spin-off show with Geordi LaForge and Miles O'Brien, "This Old Ship". It would probably get better ratings than pretty much all the Abrams/Kurtzman Star Drek.
points I didn't like:
- dark lighting - even on the bridge of the Enterprise D
- Seven of Nine basically failing at everythins she attepts to do and having only 5% of her razor sharp mind and knowledge about astronomy, technology and science which she was famous for on Voyager
- half of starfleet dying (kind of made the celebration mood feel a little bit awkward)
- hardly any scenes on planets... the dark star ship setting really became monotonous after a while
points I liked:
- ignoring the borg plot of season 2
- fan service nostalgia we all deserved

Troi redeemed herself this episode by using what I call "The slug people from FTL" powers, where she could use emotions like a sensor ping.

I loved Enterprise. It's the Trek I grew up with. I caught TNG reruns with my dad but watching the new series(Enterprise) with him was incredible. He grew up watching tos as a boy so it was like patching the torch. Plus Scott Bacula is amazing.
The writers did a nice foreshadowing in this series. What Picard did for Jack, Data did for his brother Lore earlier. He gave him a real connection to someone.
This was a great last ride for both the Next Generation crew and the Enterprise-D. I'm so glad the ship's fate in Generations was undone and she now has a place of honour at the Fleet Museum. She looked absolutely beautiful in this episode. This was the sendoff that Picard and company deserved. I'll admit, there were parts in the episode when I really feared that a few if not all of the Next Gen crew were going to die and the Enterprise-D was going to be destroyed so soon after her resurrection. This is a sign of great writing and great performances by the cast because it elicited those feelings in me. However, I'm very thankful that wasn't the case.
If this is going to be out on director's cut Blu Ray then it may be the first such box set I've bought in many a year.
I had a similar fear and that was the reason I rushed yesterday to watch it after I nearly got spoiled on the fate of the crew. Still glad they managed to live through it and everything. While the Big D herself got the fate she really deserved.

I did not expect to cry watching Picard. I checked out of the show after the first two episodes of S2 and never bothered to finish it. I only picked up again for Season 3 because of videos like yours and the Critical Drinker's. Season 3 has really knocked me over, the scene where Picard was talking to Jack completely pulled the rug out from under my feet.
Weirdly it was Raffi and Worf that got to me.
When the crew walked onto the bridge of the Enterprise D at the end of episode 9 I got a bit choked up.
Could I start from season 3?
I also didn't finish season 2 and I was pretty much done with new Trek at that point but I'm glad that I jumped into season 3. It was really well done and a good send off for TNG characters.
I teared up at that scene between Jack and Picard. In fact, I had watery eyes several times throughout this season. I don't think I've ever gotten so weepy over any other piece of media.
I refuse to be gaslit by stockholme syndrome people! This finale was only great for the many memes which will come from it... UNENDING PAIN was us trying to watch it!
I'm so fucking glad the fully restored D is in the fleet museum. All is right in the Galaxy and I can sleep well tonight.
I was so scared someone was going to die. I played right into their hands emotionally. It was so nice to be able to trust the writers enough to let go and immerse myself in the story.
And OMG... the shot of the Enterprise hovering above Jack, JL, Riker and Worf? Holy sh!t. Amazing. They pulled out all the shots on this one.
The nitpickers will nitpick (I will too eventually), but right now? I'm just happy.
I'm glad the writers got that people are sick of having their "expectations subverted" and see every beloved character miserable and ruined. Sometimes an uplifting ending is still a good thing.
@@BlazingOwnager I agree, although I was still angry they killed Captain Shaw, Admiral Shelby, and Ro Laren.
Shaw was such as ass at first but started to like him near the end. It was an unnecessary death at the time, but did give more meaning to Seven's promotion.
I do feel like after Game of Thrones and Walking Dead became so popular for killing many characters off that TV show writers seem to think that in order to be good, characters must die and it really isn't the case.
I wasn't, because Dave Cullen has spent weeks describing the last two episodes as a wonderful send-off that would leave a massive grin on fans' faces, and I was grateful for it!

That was a great finale. Season 3 has been very good. I was glad they devoted the final 15-20 minutes to give the TNG crew the right send-off. Hearing that music while we watched the poker game from overhead was wonderful. And, to top it off, the managed to get Q in there, too!
I thought I saw a wedding photo of Jean Luc and Beverly as Jack was unpacking his stuff in his new quarters.
This season was so good, it felt like the first two seasons were wasted!

This season needs to be studied by all the creatives in media (especially Disney) to know what to do when bringing back a beloved franchise.
I would say studying TOS > TOS Movies > TNG series would be a better case study in how to bring back a beloved franchise
@@aaronbryant8074 I do agree. However, I was a child went TNG started so I had little context of what happened before. I did see TOS around the same time as TNG.
I was always a little disappointed with how the torch was past from TOS to TNG. Generations was supposed to be that film, but TNG was already well established by that point and Generations, while I like it, could have been a much better film.

I would say simply studying the first two seasons of Picard would help you bring back a beloved franchise, by doing the OPPOSITE of what they did.

They pulled a lot of punches, but I love the characters enough that they deserved a happy ending. 🙂
i liked the part where data was asked to give a toast and he begins with "there once was a lady from venus" before being cut off by everyone and following up with "i just wanted to finish it" a great callback, also i wanted him to finish it too.

I appreciate your recap/review videos for each of these episodes. While others rushed to cram spoilers into their thumbnail images and video titles you kept away from those things. I very much appreciate that. But I really enjoyed your parting thoughts at the end of this video. Star Trek is indeed a vast franchise and while I'm partial to the original five series and associated films, I'm also becoming an old fart and I realize that there will be those (including people as old as I am) who will find themselves favoring these new Trek excursions.
I just want to say Thank You all for this timeless journey through the stars you brough to my life. God speed Star Trek The Next Generation and its crew.

Another cherry on the sundae moment could have been if they worked in the saucer separation. Maybe for going in the cube.
I absolutely loved Enterprise. Especially how they were careful with the established timeline. Great writing.
I've always praised the art direction for that series. Making the NX-01 look advanced by our standards but still less so than what we see in TOS was very well done.
Enterprise had some issues, but it never disrespected the lore or the fans, like Kurtzman trek does. I miss it and those days.
@@lordamin2085 it feels like 75% of Kurtzman Star Trek is garbage and the last 25% feels like Star Trek. Strange new worlds might feel derivative but I do like that shower and the third season of Picard was amazing even if it buckled occasionally with the end order like frontier day, being illegal to carry out.
This season was such an unexpected gift. I'm just speechless.
I am very disappointed in S3 overall.
For one thing, the Borg have been completely overused and overdone. All 3 seasons of Picard have involved the Borg. Why do the writers feel the need to keep involving the Borg?
Could we not have had at least one season without the Borg? I am sick and tired of the Borg in all honesty. Plus it also weakened and took away all credibility from the rogue changelings. The changelings are far more superior than the Borg due to the fact that a Changeling cannot be assimilated.
There should also have been a Dominion presence (involvement) in S3 of Picard. The story line should have been about the Federation and the Dominion (including the Jem'hadar and Vorta) working together to stop and take down the rogue changelings without any Borg involvement whatsoever.
I also found the "Jack Crusher" story line very boring and uninteresting. I could care less about Jack Crusher and Picard having a son.
I wanted to know what was going on with the Cardassians along with the current state of their home world, "Cardassia" along with seeing Garak again.
Outside of Worf, I am very disappointed that there were NO characters from "Deep Space Nine" in S3 of Picard. I really would have liked seeing either O'Brian, Ezri Dax, Doctor Bashir, Kira , Garrak, or Quark again.
Sorry, but this season which looked so promising to me in the beginning turned out to be a major letdown for me personally in the end. Plus I have higher standards than what most people do and I am not easily entertained by most of today's TV entertainment. I am also a non-conformist who usually does not like what the majority of other people like.
I rated S1 & S2 of Picard on the same level as She Hulk they were miserable and depressing experiences. The only way I can describe those three seasons is like car crash television , utterly awful but you can't help but look to see just how bad it is. I expected to detest S3 and it was such an unexpected surprise and very entertaining. As somebody who used to love movies and TV and has practically stopped watching most new things due to how terrible they are this was a real treat. Unfortunately the tripe will most likely continue and it will be a long time before we get anything good again

It was OK I suppose. A bit pedestrian.
It was never explained why Jack couldn't bring himself to shoot the Borg Queen.
Then, when Picard does shoot her, she has a forcefield making his phaser useless. Now, that's convenient!
Then Picard proceeds to pull out all the Borg pipes, even after the queen warns him it could kill Jack. That's odd.
Now, it's supposed to be a race against time with billions of lives at stake, yet the crew decide to wait a while before destroying the transmitter. That's outrageous.
After the crew of the Enterprise D destroy the transmitter, I could understand that the new human biological Borg could be confused and be suffering from a lack of Borg communications, but how is it that they instantly revert back to healthy human beings? That makes no sense.
Then, when Jack comes on board the Enterprise, all those Borg implants which are supposed to be slowly removed by multiple operations, have somehow, fallen off of him?
OK, I did enjoy all the shmotzy bits, but I thought that the script was very lazy. It's good Star Trek nostalgia but bad Science Fiction.
I'd be interested in possible future episodes of Enterprise G with Jack Crusher/Picard and Q.

One you missed Dave, how can Picard connect as Locutus when he's not got that DNA anymore, he's an android now? That's even spotlit earlier in the season and Picard doesn't hear the Borg signal (mention that he used to be able to like in First Contact BECAUSE of that DNA) like Seven does.
The S1 thing was just so stupid, I don't even count that as canon, and I get they had to at least hand wave it away in S3. So for me, S3 is the band-aid on the gash of S1's nonsense. Not a perfect solution, but good enough to stop the bleeding.
Agree 100%. Season 3 was imperfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was the best Trek in years, and FAR better than Star Wars has been. If they're going to keep making THIS kind of Trek, then I want more!

Best part was when he went on to create Jackass and all the wonderful things they got up to and filmed.
It wasn’t a great hour of Star Trek, but it left things in a satisfactory place. Nobody died, the Enterprise wasn’t destroyed, the characters got the proper ending they never got with Nemesis. The resolution to the crisis stays true to the premise of the show. It’s about Picard, who finally comes to terms with what he wanted in his life. The show also clearly sets up a spin-off, but I would be happy if we never see it. Seven, Rafi, Jack have all completed their character arcs. There’s no need to see what lies next for them. Glad to see Tuvok survived, disappointed that Shelby didn’t and that we never got a Janeway cameo given all the name drops. As a show, Picard won’t be remembered as great Star Trek. But season 3 somewhat redeems seasons 1 and 2.
The shout out to Kirk's enterprise and his legacy was super appreciated.. HMS bounty? That bird of prey is legendary for a reason.. they did alot of stuff right.. TNG can rest now.

When Jack said the Titan had been rechristened, I half-expected to see USS Jean-Luc Picard, but I guess Enterprise-G makes more sense.

@@Designsecrets Agreed. The Titan is NOT an Enterprise level ship. My second quibble is that they kept Rafi. She was one of the least interesting characters on the new series. They could have easily Elnor instead as ship's security officer like how they did with Worf. I don't mind Hurd but her character on the show is painful.

You're not alone in loving "Enterprise". I was devastated when the series was cancelled! I contributed quite a bit to the fan funding for Season 5. And we met the goal. Only for CBS / Paramount to snub it entirely. 😒 There were great episodes ahead, like a buildup to the Romulan War, an episode in the cloud city of Stratos, and even a continuation of the "In a Mirror, Darkly" story. I'm still so bummed that we never got anything more from Archer and his crew. 🙁
Same here. I've posted on a few other forums etc about a possible ENT season 5-7 animated series. I really think this could work and would solve the problem of the cast looking way older than they were in season 4, would be nice to have them do the voices though and aim it at a young adult/adult audience. Prodigy and Lower Decks are proof this can work and are much cheaper to produce.
Now I see why Terry said he would call a spin off "Star Trek Legacy" and not "Star Trek Titan". I've got to say. I didn't see that coming. I felt like the entire borg thing should've been a little harder. Maybe adding another 20 minutes on this final episode. All in all, just a spectacular job on the entire 10 episode season.
I'm so happy for Seven that she gets to captain an Enterprise and thus join that history

Iv always viewed the Starship automation as it could fly the ship just as good as the crew. Fire the weapons, operate engineering. But it could never fix anything, once destroyed you lost that option with no hope of getting it back. I think the movies support that.
Unless they have a selection of exocomps or their more advanced versions on board. So automation by ships systems, repairs by exocomps and for a limited time, do operate with a bridge crew only. Just some food for tought :)

Nah bro the automation system was nonresponsive before they got hit. Which is why they could not fully raise shields. Then once they got hit it was knocked out. That was B.S though as there is no way in the world that firing two photon torpedoes should have over loaded that thing considering they actually turned control over to the computer a few times during combat in the original show and it had no problems.

Yeah I thought it worked fine. We've seen before that starships can work with automation for limited periods of time. It's just for deep space missions a larger crew is required.

'Picard' is an alternate universe. Similar to the TNG series but it's too different in tone and so many silly things in terms of characterisation. Season 3 was good though. Pity Stewart and friends wasted 2 seasons.

Oh my god I never in my life felt such a range of emotions in all of my life….I love it so much it’s incredible and I love that we have so many open ended questions!! Captain Seven! Tuvok is alive! Enterprise G! But the biggest hanger was Q showing up at the end…but with Q not dying like he said he was in season 2 means they have totally RetConned the first two seasons which I’m sure all of us are good with just ignoring the first two seasons ever happen.
But holy hell I am so happy so happy and can’t wait to see where it is going from here
You're thinking linearly. Q may have died but that doesn't mean he can't still turn up. The Q aren't bound by linear time. This Q may just be an earlier version of himself before his appearance in season 2. Q can literally transport himself to the beginning or end of the universe whenever he feels like it so there's no requirement on his appearances to line up chronologically with the internal continuity of the show.
I guess really we've only assumed that each of his appearances to date have been linear with respect to the timeline but there's no reason that Q would have to follow an episode order. He could have been bouncing back and forth along the timeline this entire time.

I was glad for the beautiful send off and the way Terry Matalas conducted this season compared to the new Trek. Dave, as usual, on point about pretty much everything but I’ll have to watch Enterprise again to see how if I like it enough to rank. It goes TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, for me. I strongly agree with you Dave on the last part. Over 5 decades of Trek is definitely enough to enjoy. There needs to be new sci-fi and an end to this retro-arch era. The Expanse was a great example of new sci-fi that was different and out of the box compared to Trek. Just wish that the studios would interesting and new entertainment for future generations. Great breakdown of Picard Season 3 Dave. Can’t wait to watch more of your sci-fi breakdown videos. Appreciate what you do.
I rewatched ENT last year. I'd put it above VOY but mostly for seasons 3-4. The first 2 seasons are rough in a lot of places, especially with the whole Temporal Cold War nonsense kicking about.

Hmm, I grew up with TNG, but my dad grew up with TOS, so that's his favorite series. TNG absolutely is my top series, Voy next I guess? TOS a very close third (it suffers from 60'sness, but the movies are fantastic, and ST V is my favorite Trek movie), ENT after it, and DS9 last.
@@apreviousseagle836 Yeah my mom introduced me to TOS first when I was a kid on KBHK TV44 at 10pm (for those from the Bay Area) and that was the only way I didn’t have to go to bed. I’d fall asleep on TOS. So, although TNG was the series on when I was a kid, TOS will always have that place in my heart cause of ma. TNG, I grew to love in my teenage years. DS9 and VOY in my adult years. You know a lot of people didn’t like ST V, but I actually loved it. Definitely top 3 for me ST II, ST VI and ST V. I’m starting ENT again now so maybe my rankings will change but I’m glad I got to see the TNG cast all together again (on the same bridge) as well as a proper send off for Enterprise-D.

Thank you for clarifying s couple things. I was wondering if the Borg Queen was a different actress and the remains of what Admiral Jameway did at the end of Voyager (I know Borg were in Picard S1 and S2 but I don't consider that canon). Plus I had forgotten all about the Big Giant Head.
I was 3 years old when the Star Trek television series was cancelled in 1969, one month before mankind walked on the moon. There were no new weekly episodes, but it was on TV, and it was on TV, and it was on TV, as reruns. It was cancelled, but I grew up watching it, or not watching it, it was simply on TV in the background. They were simply always there a part of the family sharing delicious treats and making memories. Star Trek is literally generations deep that started as a dream. My generation was born into the generation who witnessed the birth of Star Trek and kept it alive. The Next Generation is my generation, and the new generation belongs to my children, so I guess it is now being called a legacy. Star Trek has been a part of life for 60 years and is still going strong. So maybe we should be grateful for all of the work and all of the lives that have gone into the making and enhancing of our own lives. Star Trek gives us hope.
I wonder if Jack took Picard’s last name at the end of the final S3 episode. Just finished the final episode and he said that the “family name” got him on a fast track through Starfleet, which sounded like he changed his last name to Picard.
I’m reminded of Picard’s sadness when his brother and nephew died in Generations, and how heartbroken he was that the Picard name would end with him. It would be icing on the cake of closure for TNG to know if Picard’s name will live on.

I completely get it if some of us omit seasons 1 and 2 from our head canon, but the question needs to be asked - How does this Borg queen relate to the Jurati/Borg Queen from the end of season 2? Beverly commented in episode 9 that no one had heard anything from the Borg in ten years. Does season 3 take place ten years after season 2? Was there something I missed that would explain how we went from the friendly, Jurati Collective to the return of the evil queen?
Ya, I was trying to make that connection as well. What happened to Jurati being the Queen? And Borg joining the Federation? I don't get it. I would have liked to have had a few sentences about how they were denied access to the Federation. Maybe I missed that somewhere?

Every episode this season I was so worried they were gonna blow it, or "how could they top the last episode?" I don't know how they did it, but it was one the most fantastic series ever streamed.

Jean luc saves Jack by saying ‘I love you’ and a flashback of all their time together - over the past week 🙄 saying all sorts of nonsense like I was lost until I found uou - despite decades of the opposite from the series. In fact Jean luc only became weak, self te reflective and traumatised after Patrick Stewart decided to give him his own real life backstory. Urgh. Literally no one else from the federation shows up to help - just starfleet. Klingons? Andorrans ? Anyone? The federation is made up of hundreds of planets. Beverly is named head of the new? Starfleet medical. Ummmm what? Jack is ‘fast tracked’ through 4 years of rhe academy??! That’s nonsense. The rhe final blow - renaming that god awful and ugly Titan an enterprise! What a travesty! Would have been better to use that moment to roll out the new odyssey class F (instead of mothballing it after what, 15 years? Doesn’t make sense) OR refitting the D with a third nacelle and cloak! (Linking back to AGT - that would have been cool!)
The the final poker scene? I mean it’s good but it’s literally the same ending scene (and shot) from AGT…. Look I’m glad the season exists but the ending was a miss. The writer just Couldn’t stick it

Your last couple of minutes summing up I both really agreed with and it made me think. Yeh if people like the stuff that’s been Star Trek for the last ten years. Ok that’s their choice I personally think it’s trash but as you say I loved Voyager and Enterprise and people hated that.
The crux of all this is your final statement though. The creative dearth in Hollywood and the arts in general has meant that Star Trek along with Star Wars, now Indian Jones the Marvel universe - insert any long running franchise with multiple sequels/prequels have all over run by decades in some cases when really new fictions and aspects of genres should have been devised and invented.
The original creative ideas for getting on 20 years now have been few and far between.

I wish that Whoopi would've been in the final scene with them, but then again it was purely fitting in a great way. Sure there were some cliches, some nostalgia, and some non-cliche sequences. Overall, we can be pretty satisfied! I agree that the odd changeling communication avatar was kind of unnecessary. As for the Enterprise-D having its Falcon moment, they made it believable only because data was piloting it, which works. I did wonder about Laris as well.

It's because they didn't overly complicate the plot and left room for the characters to do their thing.
The big takeaway for this whole season is that you need to give the fans what they want. There's only so much of this "subverting our expectations" crap that we're willing to tolerate.
