DayOne, the person singing the high notes in the background was Cissy Houston (Whitney's mother). The song was written by Caroline Franklin(Aretha's sister).
This is why I consider Aretha Franklin the greatest female pop singer of all time. The first time I ever heard this song it stopped me in my tracks. Everything about it is brilliant: vocals, lyrics, arrangement, instrumentation, background vocals, and emotional impact.
Breathtaking. Every time. If there’s another recorded voice in the history of recorded voices that is a better singer than Aretha Franklin, I don’t know where the record is buried. Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan, Amy Winehouse--there are so many great singers and those are just the women. My favorite male singer is Otis Redding and there are other superb choices like Nat King Cole or George Jones or Robert Plant. But there’s still Aretha. Nobody before or since could do that stuff. Never gonna happen.
Whitney has a Angelic voice and Aretha has a Gospel soulful voice. I have Whitney at #1. And Aretha at #1 B. Aretha was the best singer until Whitney came on the scene. That’s my order. That Cissy Houston singing that high Soprano.( Whitney’s Mom).
My favorite song by Re Re! Soulful as heck! Now you need to do her song that will mesmerize you is her gem "Day Dreaming and I'm Thinking of You" Whitney Houston's mom Sissy Houston is hitting that high note in the back.
The Queen 👑 has sang !! Yes, she has sang!!!🎵🎶🎼🎤 She left you speechless which is what she did every time she put it down on wax. Forever the Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin ❤️ RIP Queen 👑
Ain’t No Way is one of the great artistic achievements of the 20th century. It was Sissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mother doing the backup singing. Gospels singer, also, member of The Sweet Inspirations. Thanks for doing this song. I feel the way you do about it.
Beautiful reaction. Aretha was indeed the Queen Of Soul, and of all the dozens of superb performances she left us, this is my favourite, because not only is she as magnificent as ever; the song, by Carolyn Franklin, is truly worthy of her gifts, and the arrangement is *sublime* at every point (I imagine Jerry Wexler is to thank for that). It's just brought tears to my eyes, not for the first time - the way she sings the middle 8, punching those high notes squarely on the nose, just slays me. This could be a Desert Island Disc for me.
Aretha Franklin is a legend for a reason. She is an amazing singer. The best of the best can not just hit all the notes, but also relay the emotion. Aretha can obviously do all of that and more. As I'm typing this I am reminded of the song Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan. IYKYK. :)
And That's Why Ladies and Gentlemen SHE'S THE UNDISPUTED QUEEN..that's ms Cissy Houston hitting those crazy notes.. Absolutely Brilliance in Music Form.. checkout ms Carmen McCrae Come In From The Rain
It's hard to pick a favorite Aretha Franklin song, but this is definitely one of mine thanks for reacting to it. Call Me (1970) is another good one to check out.
Your talk after was wonderful. So true. Couples need to just open up and talk. Don’t let pride get in the way. Talking things out. It works! My wife and I have been together for 52 plus years. 😊
I did not read through all the comments, but I’m guessing by now somebody has told you that incredible operatic note that continues to appear from one of the background singers is none other than Whitney Houston‘s mother
The background wailing is what makes the song so haunting... Aretha is considered the #1 singer of all-time by Rolling Stone Magazine and my favorite female singer ever!
Never heard this one! It would be a good song to slow dance to! Feeling your ladies body next to yours, smelling her scent, swaying back and forth and hoping this moment will never end!
I just stumbled upon this video 2 years after you posted it but I can relate to how you related to the song. I lost my life partner recently and this song made me think of my loos in the same way that it made you think of your late father. Yes, the song is about a breakup, but the melody and the somber way Ms. McCoo sings it allows me to apply that same sentiment to my loss, even if the words don’t exactly match. Thanks for doing this reaction and bringing a sentimental tear to my eye.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for playing that one. That's one of my favorites. Another one you will like is The Soul of a Man by Fontella Bass. Please check it out. Another powerful soul ballad. It's from 1965. She gives it everything she's got. It's on the flip side of Rescue Me. That was back when you could buy vinyl singles.
You will like a more R&B offering of Aretha's, Freeway of Love. Do the original video which is shot in Black and White, a combination of concert with footage of the cars and freeways of the Motor City. Her band including the late great Clarence Clemons of Bruce Spingsteen's E Street Band with an amazing sax solo. You can tell the band is diggin' it - pure joy.
This is my favorite Aretha song while the "A" side of the original single, "Since You've Been Gone", is my second favorite. Aretha's sister Carolyn wrote the song and provided backing vocals along with Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom) and the Sweet Inspirations.
You didn't show much reaction when the song was playing, so I wondered whether you liked it or not, or if the words were not giving you a clear picture of what she was singing about??? But when you broke it all down so well, I knew your understanding was right on point!!! This woman recorded so many hits and even the ones that are not hits are great, that it's hard to say which one is my favorite. However, "Ain't No Way," is definitely one of my top 5!
I was seeing ELO at Little Caesars the day she passed. They had her up on the marquee outside. I was surprised and disappointed Jeff Lynne didn't mention her at all. The place would've gone nuts.
DayOne, the person singing the high notes in the background was Cissy Houston (Whitney's mother). The song was written by Caroline Franklin(Aretha's sister).
Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, was the background singer on that track. Whitney had great musical genes.
Along with Aretha's sisters Erma Franklin and Carolyn Franklin. What a session
It makes me smile to see a young woman appreciate this great performer.
Aretha used to live 5 minutes away from where I work. She was always a very nice lady, and Queen of Soul is the only proper title that fits her!
This is why I consider Aretha Franklin the greatest female pop singer of all time. The first time I ever heard this song it stopped me in my tracks. Everything about it is brilliant: vocals, lyrics, arrangement, instrumentation, background vocals, and emotional impact.
I agree with all you said, but, pop singer? Soul. Like Otis Redding. Soul.
I'll listen to Aretha all night!
Queen of Soul for a reason. You get chills just listening.
THE ONE AND ONLY QUEEN OF SOUL
cissy houston sanged that high vocal riff that propelled this song to heights unheard of at that time
Aretha’s sisters were part of the backup vocals. She was absolutely my favorite female vocalist of all time ❤
And the soprano voice is Cissy Houston
@@mic1240 didn’t know that 👏🏽👏🏽
Carolyn should have gone full singer/songwriter and left her sister alone.
she the one yelling in background gospel voice love it!!
Aretha is just the greatest vocalist of all time..., she was beyond special..,so so great.
Recorded at Muscle Shoals. Where those good ole country boys in Alabama laid down some soulful tracks for Aretha to flourish.
That was Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's mother hitting those high notes in the song.
FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's why she's the Queen of Soul!! Although you have to hear Gladys sing The Way We Were!!!
I always get chills from this song

But there’s still Aretha. Nobody before or since could do that stuff. Never gonna happen.
The beauty of her voice is unmatched. She has no rivals.
I always thought Whitney Houston was the best female singer but dam Arethas voice is so smooth...
I like Aretha's voice but Whitney was something else
Whitney has a Angelic voice and Aretha has a Gospel soulful voice. I have Whitney at #1. And Aretha at #1 B. Aretha was the best singer until Whitney came on the scene. That’s my order. That Cissy Houston singing that high Soprano.( Whitney’s Mom).
"Ain't No Way" is both beautiful and powerful.
Those two qualities are rare in a song.
Well, that's Aretha Franklin after all.
Aretha's GREATEST SONG! Her voice, the instrumentation , the back up singers. One of those songs you can "get lost in".
My favorite song by Re Re! Soulful as heck! Now you need to do her song that will mesmerize you is her gem "Day Dreaming and I'm Thinking of You" Whitney Houston's mom Sissy Houston is hitting that high note in the back.
Vintage Aretha !! This was one of our "blue light " songs in high school.
She’s one of a kind and so fantastic. She’s really a treasure ❤
Everything she did was amazing. She was so good.
The Queen 👑 has sang !! Yes, she has sang!!!🎵🎶🎼🎤 She left you speechless which is what she did every time she put it down on wax. Forever the Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin ❤️ RIP Queen 👑
I want everyone to know that Carolyn Franklin Aretha baby sister wrote this song
Ain’t No Way is one of the great artistic achievements of the 20th century. It was Sissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mother doing the backup singing. Gospels singer, also, member of The Sweet Inspirations. Thanks for doing this song. I feel the way you do about it.
The embodiment of Soul music 🎶 I concur 👑👏❤️
The absolute greatest singer that ever walked the face of this planet!
She was the best!! Voice of an angel! Loved this!

I don’t remember this song but I have to say I really like this slow type of song from Ms Aretha, it will definitely be on my playlist

The LEGENDARY Iconic Ms Aretha Franklin
Cissy Houston, Whitney,s Mother is during the background high notes.
And That's Why Ladies and Gentlemen SHE'S THE UNDISPUTED QUEEN..that's ms Cissy Houston hitting those crazy notes.. Absolutely Brilliance in Music Form.. checkout ms Carmen McCrae Come In From The Rain
Cissy Houston was the one on the background, killing it
It's hard to pick a favorite Aretha Franklin song, but this is definitely one of mine thanks for reacting to it. Call Me (1970) is another good one to check out.
Your talk after was wonderful. So true. Couples need to just open up and talk. Don’t let pride get in the way. Talking things out. It works! My wife and I have been together for 52 plus years. 😊
Aretha’s sisters , Irma and Carolyn sang backup. Carolyn wrote it.
I'd like to hear sodumping l.I.She sounds good in a studio
There is the favorite. And with good reason! One thing you should know about any studio Aretha song Angela. If you hear a piano it is her playing it.
Wow. I can just imagine dancing in a small, smoky nightclub to this song.
I did not read through all the comments, but I’m guessing by now somebody has told you that incredible operatic note that continues to appear from one of the background singers is none other than Whitney Houston‘s mother
The background wailing is what makes the song so haunting... Aretha is considered the #1 singer of all-time by Rolling Stone Magazine and my favorite female singer ever!
that was her sister singing the wailing sound actually gospel love it!!
@@OneWayJesus777-x2n that is Cissy Houston mother of Whitney
She is still the QUEEN
Never heard this one! It would be a good song to slow dance to! Feeling your ladies body next to yours, smelling her scent, swaying back and forth and hoping this moment will never end!
That high voice is Whitney Houston's mom, Cissy Houston.
You can feel the emotion in her voice.
My ALL TIME favorite Queen Of Soul song! And I don’t care who else covers it, NOBODY can do Ain’t No Way like Aretha ! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾♥️♥️♥️🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤💐💐💐💐💐
All the rest are just vocalizing. But, the Queen sang liked she lived those lyrics and was having a passionate conversation through song.
Hard to beat early Aretha , or Ella Fitzgerald ...touches the center of the heart .
Thanks for this one .

Hi Ms. D., So Good and so Soulful.. Nothing else needs to be said.. ♠W.G.
Great video. That was Cissy Houston, who hit that high note... Whitney Houston's mother.
Thank you for reacting to this great song.

THE QUEEN!. I think these recording sessions were video taped
When I was a little girl, my dad used to make me sing this in front of company. He loves Aretha. Her music is the soundtrack of my life!
What a heritage. 🇨🇦👋💯💖
This is why she was & will always be The Queen of Soul.
GREAT SONG BY THE QUEEN
This is my favorite Aretha song while the "A" side of the original single, "Since You've Been Gone", is my second favorite. Aretha's sister Carolyn wrote the song and provided backing vocals along with Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom) and the Sweet Inspirations.
The woman hitting the high notes in the background is Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother.
Love Aretha….❤❤❤❤
Great, honest, human reaction (which I've come to know you'll always give us). Wanna top even this? Aretha's single "Angel" (1973).
her sister!! is the one with the high voice in background both went to church as small girls

BRAVO!!!!
Thank you John Houston for Recommending Do that Cissy do that Ghostly High Note...Amazing
Aretha. You get her
I remember seeing Aretha at a Pistons game at the Palace in Auburn Hills back in the day.
I was seeing ELO at Little Caesars the day she passed. They had her up on the marquee outside. I was surprised and disappointed Jeff Lynne didn't mention her at all. The place would've gone nuts.
Have you seen ---- Aretha Franklin - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (Live at Kennedy Center Honors) ---- It is a must see.
First of all, I want to send a shout out so that you know how beautiful you are. Second, this is my go to song when I think of Aretha Franklin. 🫶🏾💯
It just doesn't get any better.
Girl you were just born too late. You can't beat Aretha. Man, that voice, her singing. And that sax in the intro, so sexy too. So good.
If you haven't reacted to Aretha's Got to find me an angel it's another great song that her sister Caroline Franklin wrote.
Angela, have you ever reacted to Aretha Franklin "Angel"?
Whitney Houston's mother in the background with the falsetto Sissy Houston.
Great work on giving your feedback on the music if I could recommend a song by the Jones Girls / Nights over Egypt
Great!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Song Request - Daydream in Blue / I Monster
Thanks for the reactions! :)
Once bitten, twice shy
I think you would enjoy reacting to Stacy Lattisaw Let me be your angle or Stacy & Johnny Gill Perfect Combination
Her Sisters were her backup vocalists.
Hey my love how are you the voice. That you here in the background is her sister Carolyn Franklin.
Another song written by Aretha's sister Carolyn that you should listen to is Angel.
