This, our local liquor stores does a whiskey release event every fall with their huntable whiskeys/Bourbons. prices went from MSRP a few years ago to well above that now. hard to convince myself to go wait in line early in the morning to spend 50 bucks on Weller Special Reserve.
Starting to agree on everything Weller. The moment a store gets it in Oregon it is gone and it feels like a lot of store owners back door it. On our family road trip I was blown away at some of the secondary prices…saw $650 for antique 107!!!??? Love Weller but there are other great wheated bourbons and it’s simply not fun when special reserve is the only bottle you can get (and even that’s a treat).
Yep I’m right there with you. I stopped hunting Weller a while back because I don’t like it. The prices are getting a little crazy. I bought a Bombergers yesterday and probably paid too much but there are all kinds of bourbons that you used to have a hard time finding just sitting on the shelf. That’s how you know the economy sucks.
Agree with you 💯. I love an old carter, but I haven't bought one in years. My state does a monthly, quarterly, and, end of the year drop at MSRP on allocated bottles that's the only time I'm buying.
I just got a Weller special reserve off the secondary market because I had never had one. In my opinion, I’d rather have ancient age for $15. The Weller had that mildew, barnyard, funk, that I can’t get past. I tried it in an old fashion and had to pour it out. Frey ranch is another one that has that same flavor profile.
Not paying over msrp for anything! Also not pay distillery extream markups from previous years. I have plenty to sip on for many years, I will wait if necessary.
My friend bought a bottle of Weller FP for $150 the other week and let me try it. It's not bad, but it's not even as good as something like 1792 FP or JDSBBP which are both like a third of the price he paid.
Yeah, but you said “no longer hunting.” This implies not paying large markups and searching low and high. If you are hunting in the Midwest, you can find it close to retail. Not saying it’s easy. But, you used the word “hunting.” So, I suppose, if you would buy it if you found it for close to retail, then you are indeed still hunting it.
I love MWND but agree it shouldn’t be marked up when it is so expensive to begin with. And I’d take a shot at a Weller FP at 90 bucks, can’t find it anywhere in the DC area for anything close to that.
yes... I simply can't afford expensive bourbon. I never spend over 50 bucks for any bottle... I love 4 roses...wild turkey 101...Jack daniels I'm happy with those...
I'll say it.. I don't give a sh*t about Blantons (even at msrp). Also, any bourbon that whiskey youtubers are gushing over, that in turn, cause fomo which is a reason for allocation.. those can get f*@ked on as well. There's a world of great whiskies that anyone can find on any random day sitting on the shelf 😎
So yes...and I said I just bought a bottle of Weller full proof for $90, but to me it's good and not great and certified not worth the hunt and crazy prices it often gets.
I get that, but just think there is so many other whiskeys out there that are way better than all of thr Weller lineup for a fraction of the often marked price Weller bottles get. Again, it's not that I think any of the Weller bottles taste bad, just that I think there a ton of other bottles at the fraction of the price that I like over any of the Weller bottles.
Haha hardly. And again it's not that I think any of the Weller bottles taste bad, just that there are so many other bottles out there that I think are better than Weller at a fraction of the often listed price for Weller bottles.
I think all Bourbon whiskey drinkers can agree that the prices are out of fu*king control.
That is true...but there are some bottles I still hunt and pay for...stay tuned tomorrow. Cheers!

Couldn't agree more with you

Managed a Weller fp off the shelf at Walmart for 55 lol. I don't pay over msrp for anything so that was nice
"Anything Weller". I don't hunt it, but Special Reserve at the 30 price point we have it for here, is solid.

I'm with you on the old carter. It's really good but $300 in my area is just too much.
Bookers is on my list
Good point.
The older I get the more I stick with shelfers. Wild Turkey Russell single and Knob creek can walk in and walk out with change!! Enjoy!!!🥃🥃🥃
Exactly!!!
Any Weller that isn't the Green label Special Reserve is a Buy at MSRP or close.
Just had a MWND pour (act 11 Scene 9) and gotta say I really enjoyed it. But secondary bottle price maybe not.
Act 11 was fantastic. Got myself a bottle and then was gifted one as well. Happy to have two because the first one’s going quickly.
Rock solid list.

90 is good price for WFP. Love that whiskey. But 100 is too price.

Never had any. Of I can get WFP for msrp, then sure. But no sweat. Sub 60 for OWA. I'm good. OF1920 or WT Rare breed and Russels picks... I'm good.
i totally agree. there are plenty of pretty cheap bourbons just as good! why blow all that $$$
I agree with all of these
Not paying over msrp for anything! Also not pay distillery extream markups from previous years. I have plenty to sip on for many years, I will wait if necessary.
Agree, Weller FP at MSRP (my ceiling) all day but get it

100% agreed Josh! Cheers!
Weller antique at Msrp , $60, is a good value, maybe great.
Not arguing that. Again, at MSRP most Weller products are very good buys, you just almost never see them at msrp unfortunately. Cheers!

NAILED IT with all five. I’ve had 4 of the 5 and while they are tasty, the bang for the extra bucks, are just not there.
yes...
I simply can't afford expensive bourbon.

I love 4 roses...wild turkey 101...Jack daniels
I'm happy with those...
For me its anything that is over $90. That's my limit.
Booker's, Blanton's, and Weller Special Reserve 🥃
I stay away from old Carter and four gate because of the price point…250+ is ridiculous for whiskey
Agreed Mike...I was buying both oftne but there is only so much I can afford, especially at that price point.
Cheapest Four Gate I have seen was at 140 around 4-5 yrs ago.
Stop paying over MSRP! Otherwise stores will still overcharge!
I am a sucker for Old Carter. Getting harder to justify Four Gate. 🥃
Can't argue with that Dave.
Yup, if it ain't on the shelf or visible behind the counter I ain't buying it 💯
Wish I could find me a full proof weller at 90$ lol
Honestly I think you can find better bottles for the same price points. He'll ECBP is cheaper and to me WAY better!
I don’t think old Carter put out anything in like six months or more. I am curious if they’re going to be around much longer.
They are having issues within the company...its all I can say. Should be resolved soon hopefully.
I'll say it.. I don't give a sh*t about Blantons (even at msrp). Weller is just not my cup of tea, Any of them. Even for $30 😉Cheers 👍 🥃...Amburana? 🤢
Todd you did say hunting, but I assume if you see weller (other than SR) at MSRP you are buying it no questions asked?
I’ve seen tons of videos with him crapping on Wellers.
I don’t think he’s a fan

This guy must be in the pocket of Buffalo trace competitors

@@2TEN90 I was jk.
What in your opinion is a better $30 bottle than Buffalo Trace?
@@TimPeer-b1zGreen River!
F wellar
Would you take Weller fp @$54?? I was fortunate enough to get it at msrp. Imo $50ish is where it should be.
Yes..100% it's not that I don't like it but at the crazy prices it's often set at it is not. But at $54 it's a buy for sure.
