- There has been a significant surge in hate crimes against Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, according to New York City police data. We spoke to one victim, a Filipino American man named Noel, who describes waiting for a subway train in New York before being slashed across the face with a knife. He, like many in the AAPI community, is speaking out to take a stand against these attacks in the hope prevent further violence on Asian Americans.

True racism in Indonesia is not as bad as in any big country, but in exchange, the religion group become stronger. Especially with many radical groups appearing this day attacking people of other religions, so it is not entirely safe.
Ironically these group of people are actually hated by their very own religion, but they still exist anyway.

I was wondering why no one was covering all the racism against Asians. Growing up in NY I saw this all the time.
Absolutely... and it tended to come from other ethnic groups that had racial consciousness or hard gang activity like Hispanics and blacks. I remember ducking between alleyways trying to avoid eye contact and stay well out of sight of those groups where I grew up in Chicago. I'd seen way too many friends either get recruited or roughed up when walking too close to them or going down the wrong alley. All this nonsense is eventually going to force whites to have a racial consciousness again, then RIP the West as tribalism will truly tear it apart.

@@networknomad5600 I grew up in Chicago the hellhole city, I did not have racial issue but I know there are some neighborhoods in Chicago I would never visit.
People see us as weak and vulnerable when we are actually just wise and have empathy toward others. We were taught this by our grandparents who always took care of us. We learned how to be humble and stay grounded.

I have alot of personal history with chinese Vietnamese philipinos koreans.
But it includes innocent ppl of all colors.

The Filipino who's been slashed on face, he will bring the scar until his last breath without doing anything bad to anyone and still forgive and accept what happened. I hope, everything will be better. I always pray for peace and unity.

I'm an Asian and Filipino. I have a few theories why no one was courageous enough to help him. One of which is the fact that the attacker is black, and the incident took place in one of the most liberal or solid democrat states in America. This has something to do with the stigma left by George Floyd case. People hesitate to stop black attackers for fear that the race-obsessed media and liberal society might turn them into racist.

This scares me. It seems it’s the elderly being attacked. You see elderly of all walks of life being attacked. Asian Americans are the sweetest group of people. I am so happy I live in a community with black, Asians, white and Spanish. I wouldn’t live any where else. But we are elderly her. So we will continue to pray. A life lesson that we were all taught in kindergarten: “treat others how you wanted to be treat” .
I’ll never forget, last year i was working a 12 hour shift and I was 8 months pregnant. There was always security walking me to my car, even though there’s a maternity parking. I left early and was alone this time. I noticed one guy yelling at someone. Saying take your virus back to your home. I was so shocked, this was my first time encounter something like this. I don’t go out much, but something told me to go talk to that person and hugged that person. We talked, she helped me to my car, hugged and we wished each other well. Put me to tears until now. ♥️🙏🙏♥️
My heart broke at hearing Noel's story. He has every right to feel anger and resentment, yet he finds forgiveness and compassion in his heart. The world would be a better place with more people like Noel.

That's what makes me proud, because the heart of the Filipinos always thinks for the good of others, willing to sacrifice for others that is the reason why many Filipinos abroad sacrificing their personal happiness and freedom just to see their love ones happy and free. We were colonized 3 times, abused,drgged down but those countries abused us, we consider them our closest friend now, we know we were always taken advantage. But our hope is in God that time will come He will vindicate us with all that we been through.

This breaks my heart. Anti Asian racism and violence in our country is still prevalent, and I'm glad it's coming to light. My grandmother is Chinese, and I cannot bear to imagine this happening to her. My heart goes out to anyone who has experienced racism or a hate crime. Nobody deserves to be treated this way based on something they cannot control.
It made me burst into tears watching Noel revisiting that horrible experience in a controlled and calm way. Even though he was the one who suffered the most, he’s still soft-spoken. And he went on to advocate for awareness publicly for other people in the community. He has a heart of gold

What is truly the most painful is that he says "if it's just me then it's fine, but if it were the people I live with (his wife, children, parents etc) then he trails off to imply that it would ruin him. He is essentially devaluing himself and says if it's him he can take the abuse, but please do not put that on his family.
What really pisses me off is no one is recognizing this, they just take this sacrificial sentiment as a given because he was born a man, and to be a man is to put everyone but yourself first. It is not something that is a "given", it is not something that is or should be implicit to the male gender, what he did was courageous and powerful and this fact about him should be celebrated and cherished more openly. He thinks this way because he loves his family more than he could ever love himself, if that isn't powerful then nothing else on earth could be such.

As a young Chinese, I worry about those senior asians more than myself. I walked on the street on San Francisco one day, I saw a senior couple just walking on the street, and I can't help to start to worry about them. They are like the same age like my grandma and grandpa , and they are exactly like those silver aged asian who have been attacked, the target.. "Justice for Asian" i got really emotional when I heard it being shouted. Im an Asian, i feel sorry for my fellow Asians in the US. They are working fairly and trying to work harder for a living for their families but these black americans are killing them. I guess they can't accept why these fellow Asians live a good life while them, maybe no matter how hard they work they cannot attain what Asians are getting and enjoying and they are frustrated with their lives because they dont experience the beauty of life of the Asians have.

It makes me so mad. I hate how I see Noel as though he was my own grandma. More the fact that he is Filipino. It hit home since my grandma never helped grudges and I could see the same energy of just pure love and kindness that my grandma gives through him. I’m so lucky to have a grandma that loves me and supports me more than my father did. My parents are divorced but that didn’t stop my mom and grandma from having a respectful and still family relationship towards each other. In the end of the day, we are family. And they understood that the most.

As an Asian growing up in a predominantly Hispanic community, I was bullied mentally and physically all throughout grade school. I hated going to school. Asians were brought up not to make trouble and not to make a big deal. I kept silent. I'm not going to hate on any particular race bc there are lots of good people in every race. I am afraid to step outside especially now. It shouldn't have to be that way. I hope all this hate just STOP but who am I kidding.
